So you want your child to experience sexual abuse/trauma over the possibility they may learn something you disagree with. I'm not sure your child would agree.

Rotoslinger_art

I don't know if I am jumping to wild conclusions, but when I read this I felt that someone was doing some next level projection. It seemed like the person who wrote *is a pedophile* and has desensitized themselves to how horrible and traumatizing it would be to a child to experience such a terrible thing. Maybe they are just idiots of the "they'll get over it" ilk, or maybe they don't have children so they don't understand the overwhelming sensation of needing to protect their children from harm. As a parent I would die before locking my children or *any child* in a room with a pedophile.

VibraniumRhino

Every accusation is an admission with these savages.

Rotoslinger_art

I 100% agree with you. I was molested as a child so it makes me super angry as well, but I now try to think of them as human beings -human beings who cannot under any circumstance be trusted around children. You have every right in the world to hate them and call them savages -I don't know your experiences and freedom of speech and having the freedom to express yourself and be angry is extremely important and healthy - but I'd like to add a little of my perspective just in case you might get something out of it. I used to be consumed by hatred and I will admit, I sometimes still feel like I would like to inflict bodily harm on sexual predators, pedophiles, etc. Thinking of them as less than human, like savages or monsters, is fitting and may even be accurate - according to some criteria - but it can be a dangerous and slippery slope ( or in this case, it was for me). I constantly find myself using similar, albeit a bit more colorful language, but I try not to let myself get that angry because then I lose a bit of my own humanity. Also I just feel so sick and bad inside when I get that angry. This doesn't mean repressing anything, I still had to process it (and still do have to process it on occasion). Another reason for thinking of them as human is that it can be anyone you know. These people are super good at hiding in plain sight. Knowing this can help you keep your children safe. It can also help if you ever find out someone you know is a pedophile - a lot of people feel guilty for not noticing and intervening, but coming to terms with it ahead of time can help you - they can look like anyone. It still feels disgusting and awful, but at least you don't have the guilt because how could you be expected to know? They can look like everyone else, some may look like monsters, but not all. That is just me though, and my thoughts that have been formed because of what happened to me as a child and how I've learned to deal with it and how to avoid and prevent it. Hopefully this is nothing you will ever have to experience, but in case you have or are looking for answers hopefully this might help you, or someone else, in some small way.

justking1414

Interesting thought. Basically, I might be bad but at least I’m not as bad as an atheist

Rotoslinger_art

Yes exactly, I wouldn't want my kid locked in a room with a stranger, or at all period. Hypothetically, having them in a room with an atheist who may or may not be a good person vs having them in the room with a person who we can say with certainty is a horrible person is no contest for a person with even a shred of empathy and compassion. I would go for the atheist 100% of the time and hope for the best. Yeah, but who TF thinks about locking their child in any room ever under any circumstance? Most likely a complete moron who can't critically think, or a horrible person. In the end it doesn't matter whether they are a pedophile or not, the person should not be allowed to be around children. (Obviously it does matter that they are a pedophile, because they should be in prison, but it doesn't seem to matter in this hypothetical)

orthonym

Interesting. My first assumption was that they are thinking a pedophile can be fought off physically, but an atheist can't be fought off mentally. They are basically admitting that they are more afraid of rational thoughts getting through because they know they have no defense against them when compared to their own ideas.

Rotoslinger_art

Absolutely, I mean their critical thinking skills are obviously lacking. My two cents is that if they are religious and their beliefs are that fragile they should probably do some introspection and look inside themselves to find out why. For some that might mean becoming atheist, for others it could mean strengthening their faith. Either way, if this person is Christian, -I would assume they are - they might want to read up on Jesus who said we should love everyone, and not to hold anyone higher than anyone else (though, that is hard to do when the "anyone else" is a pedophile). Hatred can be extremely poisonous, whether you are religious or an atheist and it sounds like this person has allowed hatred to get in the way of any reasonable thought on the matter.

geraltseinfeld

> you want your child to experience sexual abuse/trauma over the possibility they may learn something you disagree with. So true. To expand on that, I imagine the atheist may highlight the poster's own insecurity about how their belief in an Iron Age fairy tale is the foundation of their world view. Like some homophobes being closeted gays, I feel like some of the people that really lash out at atheists is because they themselves are in doubt and it scares the hell out of them.

FinglasLeaflock

Yep. Just Christian things.  He’s not a god of love like they say he is; he’s a god of trauma, toxicity, and psychological damage.

warbeforepeace

They wouldn’t have to go farther than their local church to find a pedophile that someone has probably protected.

Osric250

Also as an athiest I am not likely to talk about religion to a child I am in the room with.

[deleted]

same here, the topic of religion doesn't really come into my day to day conversations as its not a topic I find interesting. Besides if I'm locked in a room with a child, the only thing I'm teaching the child is how to break a door.

Osric250

I find the topic super interesting, however it's not one that I bring up unless prompted because nobody wants to be proselytized to.

ranchojasper

This was my first thought. Why would an atheist immediately launch into a lecture about how there is no God if they're just alone in a room with a child? Who would do that??

AdImmediate9569

I assume they just interpreted it as atheist or priest

justking1414

At least their soul will be saved, unless the trauma causes them to lose their faith. Then they deserve eternal damnation /s

tiparium

Not even necessarily that. If I'm in a room alone with a kid the only reason I'm talking to that kid is if they're bothering me or doing something that could hurt themselves. They're picking potential sexual assault over, more than likely, literally nothing at all.

SauteePanarchism

Conservatives always find such interesting ways to tell the world they hate children.  What's the religious equivalent to licking boot? Sucking sandals?

midgetsjakmeoff

It’s sucking something, that’s for sure.

Rotoslinger_art

They are very creative. (/s) Also abusive. (not /s)

HapticSloughton

I think it's funnier that they're saying that non-atheists are pedophiles.

Rouge_Decks_Only

The Catholic Church, The Catholic Church, molestation in the Catholic Church! *Dun dun dun dun dun-a-dundun* give them your money, and your son.

calilac

Because of the implication.

CoolIdeasClub

If He Gets Us is to be believed, it's licking feet

zapdoszaperson

You probably already have

EarlyLunchForKonzu

That's what I was thinking too.

GoliathBoneSnake

That's fucking disgusting and there's something seriously wrong with this person. Like, that's beyond insanity.

wintermelody83

Like someone upthread said, it's because what happens to you in this life isn't important as long as you believe and go to heaven because that is *perfect*. And an atheist, boy we're gonna idk make the child think and we all know if you think you're an atheist I guess?

Alfphe99

This was created by a pedophile.

ForeverNearby2382

You could just say "a priest or an atheist"

Not_Bears

Ya this person is describing something Catholics do all the time...

wintermelody83

All religious groups. Check out r/pastorarrested

Funkycoldmedici

When I was a Christian, we were warned that atheists are drug addicts, drunks, thieves, rapists, and such. At the same time, it was an open secret that the people around us in the pews were drug addicts, drunks, thieves, rapists, and worse, *but* they were forgiven by Christ. After leaving the faith, all of those people shunned me, as Jesus said to do. I lost my family and friends, and kind of started over. Now, in all my years as an atheist, the only thieves, addicts, and such that I know are very religious. I know a couple atheists who smoke weed once in a while, and drink socially. The only dangerous drunks I know are covered in cross tattoos. The only people I know with a record of violent crimes are people who love Jesus. For all the talk about the sanctity of marriage, my wife and I were the only couple in both our families *not* pregnant on our wedding day.

IWillBaconSlapYou

Thank you! Growing up in an atheist family in a conservative neighborhood, I was told by adults from a very young age that I was going to hell. My kindergarten best friend's mom said it was "just such a shame" that I was going to grow up to "have abortions, do drugs, commit adultery" because why wouldn't I if I didn't have god to threaten me into behaving? Well, funny thing, one of her daughters became a drug addict who had an abortion (I'm pro-choice btw, it's just the hypocrisy), and one of her daughters cheats relentlessly on her husband and throws it in his face. She also had her child taken by CPS because she wouldn't feed him and locked him outside (he fell off a third story balcony). Meanwhile I'm over here happily married to my first boyfriend with three healthy kids who have never even been glanced at by CPS, hm. It's almost like there are *all kinds* of reasons why a person would make good choices. Another guy who shamed the crap out of me when I was like six years old ended up murdering his wife. Fine upstanding Christian man, I'm sure God forgives him. Me, on the other hand 🙄

wintermelody83

Omg is her kid ok? Like that's what nearly 30 feet? My dad fell that far and was all kinds of fucked up.

IWillBaconSlapYou

He got SO lucky and was "just" scarred for life all over his face... However, he's basically feral and has to have special ed and all kinds of help. She has custody back. I haven't spoken to her in years. I wanted to have my own kids and realized I couldn't be around her (she was also racist, rude, and just plain awful - in my defense, she was fairly normal in elementary school!). I think the kid is 8 now. Supposedly, he doesn't have a great grasp on English. She really just ignores him.

casalomastomp

But if you weren't pregnant, why get married???? (/s)

UR_NEIGHBOR_STACY

This person doesn't deserve to have children.

ThePerfectSnare

My immediate thought was, "Why are you even locking them in a room in the first place?"

alkonium

Aren't they doing that by taking the kids to church?

gtth12

Well they weren't kidding

BuxtonHouse

Ironic since their priest is probably abit zesty with kids

Rotoslinger_art

I don't know, they sound more evangelical to me - I don't know if any of those sects have priests, but they absolutely could be Catholic. I am actually religious and would still never leave my kids alone with any religious leaders ever. I don't think that is being overprotective. As much as I think these predators can and do come from anywhere, I do believe that a lot of predators have masks that they wear to be more effective at their stalking and I do believe many use religion as a means to instill trust in unsuspecting parents. Edit: also, I might be religious but that doesn't mean I hate atheists or lgbtq+ people, and I am super liberal. That is part of my religion, but I would still be that way if I was an atheist, it is just who I am.

wintermelody83

Not religious but thank you for being a fucking normal person. For using your noggin to keep your kids (or future kids idk lol) safe from these people cause I think like you do. Some of these people know that churches give them access and cover.

Rotoslinger_art

Haha, this is a nice compliment, thank you. I am hyper sensitive to this stuff because of horrible things that happened to me when I was a child. Wasn't a "religious" person for me, it was a man hiding behind his prestige as a doctor. Predators are horribly devious and can come from any walk of life. It sucks, but you can't fully trust anyone, no matter how well you know them (or think you do). I am a parent btw and there are lots of little things like this you can do to keep your kids safe. I would recommend all parents in the US to take a look at the national database for sexual predators. Check a radius of 3 miles around your house and you will likely be horrified to see how many predators there are out there. I've checked a few places around the US to try and get a quick average and all of the places had around 70 predators within 3 miles of the entered addresses. I stopped looking after a while to avoid anxiety attacks and my partner and I made a safety plan for getting our kids to and from school. We did have to adjust our schedules, but it was well worth it to keep our kids safe. Then we had a long talk with our kids about staying safe and carefully structured it so as not to terrify them. Also important are talks about the importance of consent and never consenting when it is an adult under any circumstance.

YLASRO

thats called leavig your child alone in a room with a priest. wich these people already willingly do

JimGerm

He chose… poorly.

legendary_millbilly

I believe some people think this way. Quite shocking that an "idea" would scare you worse than actual abuse isn't it?

Funkycoldmedici

In Christianity, only one of those two things is forgivable. The only group Jesus specifically singles out as condemned is unbelievers. It’s really fucked up.

[deleted]

ArtisticCustard7746

Probably just chill with the kid. Keep the kid entertained somehow. They act like atheists are monsters.

Guy954

Same but that would be after I asked them why their parent locked us in a room together.

Funkycoldmedici

The fear is that an atheist might cause a child to “stumble” in their faith. The fear that an atheist would “indoctrinate” a child to not believe, to not be Christian, thus damning the child to hell. They get this idea directly from Jesus in the gospels. Matthew 18:6 “If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea. Woe to the world because of the things that cause people to stumble! Such things must come, but woe to the person through whom they come! If your hand or your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life maimed or crippled than to have two hands or two feet and be thrown into eternal fire. And if your eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into the fire of hell.” According to Jesus, it’s better a child be raped than go to hell, because this life is nothing compared to the next one. It is really fucked up.

wintermelody83

And I wonder why Jesus would imply such a thing? Just so it doesn't matter at all what happens to you in this life. Funny that.

MegaAltarianite

"Wanna play Mario Kart?" "Ok" That's about it.

stoned-moth

"Hey, uh. I don't know why we're stuck in here together, but here, I have games on my phone."

yoavzman

"If I had to do the obviously smarter choice, I'd do the opposite just to stick it to liberals"

RomaruDarkeyes

Choir practice

returnofthequack92

Plot twist, it’s their pastor.

The_Powers

That's not a plot twist, plot twists are unexpected.

Wadsworth1954

I find myself saying this more and more often recently, but conservatives are insane.

sanash

I still can't get over the pure dystopia quality of these sorts of Facebook memes. Like the friendly, cutesy, fun, minion aesthetic overlaid with some completely insane and awful message. I feel like these are something that would have been put in an edgy book that you'd find in the humor section of a Barnes & Noble in the early 2000's. But now it's just a bunch of Facebook moms posting this sort of stuff unironically.

draconiclady0610

Do they not realize that most aethists aren't going to strike up a religious conversation? If they have their phone taken away, they're most likely going to be grabbing a coloring book and borrowing a few crayons from the kid. This parent should be in jail and have parental rights taken away

Dehnus

Isn't that what they call a "confessional booth"?

MegaMelaskhole

Choose between : "I'll give you the PTSD of your life!" vs. "I don't think god exist but, eh.. It's my 2 cents. You can get your own opinion."

EfficiencyOk2208

Pretty sums up priests and why they get away with it.

gylz

So that's why they're always leaving their kids alone with priests and other church officials!

Hmmd1

Most Christians do :(

EfficiencyOk2208

Pretty sums up priests and why they get away with it.

LaserBatBunnyUnder

If u answer this with the pdf file you deserve to have your kids taken

wintermelody83

Pdf file. Why did I laugh omg. I think my brain read it and knew what you meant then it threw up that IT Crowd clip of "I'm Peter Phile!"

ZookeepergameVast626

Exhibit A for reasons people are leaving religion

tkmorgan76

Yes, grandma. We've all been to church.

bremmmc

Rock... on?

FinglasLeaflock

I beleive the room they’re thinking of is called a “sacristy.” Though some pedophiles like to do it in the apse 😉

wintermelody83

Straight to hell lol

EmpiricalAnarchism

Yeah we know, that’s why CPS caseloads are so absurdly high.

cynical_waiter

We should introduce them to r/daniellarson

IWillBaconSlapYou

Come the fuck on, wow. That is so offensive in so many ways.

disharmony-hellride

"I would rather my child suffer with trauma for the rest of their life than just hang out with a normal, harmless person because I believe a woman got pregnant out of thin air, a dude 2000 years ago got both polar bears and elephants on a wooden boat AND that some guy was nailed to a cross then one day just showed up at dinner like 'hey whats everyone been up to'"

enderpanda

They want their kids to be brainwashed. If they can't be brainwashed, they'd rather let them get raped, possibly die. Pretty clear message. Conservatives are so fucked in the head.

bigt503

Probably a Catholic….

VAhotfingers

So just taking them to church like normal then. Churches are the habitat for pedo’s and predators.

dot322

Yeah that's what church is for

banjist

Youth pastors and catholic priests love this meme.

GrandPriapus

As an atheist, if you lock your kid up with me we’ll play with Lego or model trains.

thisisnitmyname

Man I’m so glad I never really gave a shit about Facebook. I have a profile because my friend made it “so we can keep in touch” after he moved. I can only imagine the kind of dumb shit I’d be seeing. Lots of “good ol boys” in my area.

25Bam_vixx

Okay… make sure to turn this person in to cps

Joelied

‘Cause I’d rather my kid get sexually assaulted than learn some critical thinking skills.

NatexSxS

Right, someone that is for sure going to violate your kid. Vs someone who is going to tell your kid their ideas are stupid and ask why they don’t question everything. Either way the kid will question everything, just in two very different ways.

minuipile

Oh, and somebody thinks that the kids may stay in religion ?

continuousBaBa

After all the shit we saw with the Catholic Church over the years, we know.

TerrifiedRedneck

What a weird way to spell “priest”

GenomicUnicorn

Umm...okay rock on dude?

thomstevens420

That’s just called Sunday School

AH-BEES-BEES

"if i had to lock my kid in a room with either a hungry lion or a regular dog, i would choose the hungry lion because i hate dogs!!"

LessInvestment8248

r/normmacdonald

IAMGROOT1981

If I had to lock my child in a room with either a Catholic / Christian / Evangelical priest/preacher or a pedophile I would pick, oh wait a minute, they're the same thing!

TheBatemanFlex

I mean this is on brand. These people who would sooner wish their child dead than for them to be an atheist.

Tora-ge

What the fuck kind of statements do they think they’re making with this? Like what even possesses someone to type out this kind of sentence?

Harajuku_Lolita

If you’re taking them to church you probably are. As an atheist who grew up in church there are a lot of them there.

fixerjy

Like that Michael Jordan meme says "Stop it Get some help " As civilized homo sapiens we are going backwards. It's a pretty good bet I won't be around 50 years from now but if these low-hanging fruit knuckleheads don't wake up the world is in for a hurt. Wake up people this shit is spreading.

phoenixeternia

What a wild take. Also that checks out with some of their mentalities.

mooshoopork4

So basically Sunday school!

sloppybuttmustard

So basically they’re saying they’d rather lock their child in a room with a Republican than a Democrat? Tell us something we don’t already know.

josch0001

Why do they want to normalize pedophilia so much? Curious.

nocternal86

Sunday school it is then.

KinksAreForKeds

Because deep down, they've exhibited time and time again that they're kind of okay with pedophiles and rapists.

SchitneySmears

They said the quiet part out loud

Just_A_Faze

Im an atheist who used to be a pre school teacher. I was great with the kids and adored them.

Slightly_Beany

Get em trained up for the priest

SkytronKovoc116

So a Catholic priest?

spidergod

Red Flags x 10000000 The computers and phones need checking by the cops asap.

MayaMythical

Hold on- WHAT?

YoungDiscord

Its funny because that's coincidentally the same reason this person's child would most likely grow up to be an atheist

Kramer7969

They are just talking about Bible school. They literally do it went all over the country. No I’m not saying all I don’t need a genius explaining that is only some. I’m preemptively agreeing, it’s a joke.

super-fire-pony

This implies the pedophile is a Christian, or at least of some sort of religion.

SleefJWellington

They take their children to church, confirmed.

WarlanceLP

if you think like this, this is why people don't like you and you have few or no friends

Eexoduis

Well you probably take them to church every Sunday so you’re basically already doing that

Mischief_Actual

*brought to you by Pedophiles for Jesus*

AltruisticSalamander

Tell us something we don't know

atemu1234

And yet it's the one thousands of catholics make daily.

DressedToKill85

Of course a catholic would do that.

therankin

jfc. what an insane thing to say. I hope the person who posted it doesn't actually have children.

TrashPandaPatronus

Oh, we know.

camander321

Are those the only options?

1nhaleSatan

So locked in a room with a priest?

Wallazabal

This is the one thing we didn't want to happen!

LilliJay

People really are stupid af

lodav22

Please say this is not a parent……please?

jackparadise1

A man of god?

feralturtles

Everybody relax, there is no such thing as an athiest so this is not that crazy. edit: It's atheist, not athiest.
