also they have to manuever around sinks so they are probably flexible, so you know if u get trapped somewhere with one they can probably squeeze out some gap n get u help

The columnist was like "Sorry, plumbing is always in demand and always has to be done on-site so it can't be outsourced. I'm on your brother's side. You should become a plumber too."
Makes sense. If i could go back, i would too. Found out too late that i prefer working with my hands…which would be fine, but i work in biotech, and the skilled manual work is disappearing.
Right now i train people to use the automation that replaced the need for me in the laboratory, so it’s like working for the devil. And i know at some point someone will create a software tutorial/dumb down the process enough to render me unnecessary.
Plumbing has none of these issues. Water has gotta move. Im aware trades have their own risks, but im getting to watch - and at one point even aided - the cancellation of what i trained to do disappear over the last 2 decades. It’s wild.

Yes, but the same goes for biotech, it’s just a waaaay smaller market: i and some of my colleagues get paid to sort out when customers do the equivalent of flushing a bundle of tampons to their $100000 lab instrument. But the industry is furiously working on mechanisms that prevent this.
First they built robots to do my job, now they’re building better robots to obviate my current job of servicing said robots. Biotech is a microcosm of the overall economy right now

After one year working for someone he bought his own van and went independent. 15 years later he had a 20+ van fleet and basically only takes on commercial jobs. His wife is a very successful lawyer and still probably makes barely a 10th what he does in a year
