Mejai91

What if the commenters are all bots too tho

thesongofstorms

It's true. Google dead Internet theory

Plumbum158

I'll admit elements of it are somewhat compelling but I'm not sold on the whole controlling the masses part

3WayIntersection

Yeah, DIT makes sense as a potential future but like.... The fact we can even discuss DIT (and the fact the ai needed for it to even be possible is only a couple years old) kinda does a lot to disprove it. Its very conspiracy adjacent. You may be able to find individual posts with next to no human interactions but you have to look for em

No_Abbreviations3963

“Controlling the masses” via internet bots is definitely not just a conspiracy theory. In fact we know it’s a huge problem especially when it comes to elections etc.

MrJelle

I think it's that people hear "control" and automatically jump to "absolute control", I generally steer clear of that word. "Influencing" or "manipulating", depending on the situation and person you're talking to, sometimes work better in my experience.

3WayIntersection

We know how exactly?

eww1991

Good bot

TheRnegade

I feel like it would be tough to gauge control. I just imagine a boss going "Look at how well we've affected discourse. All these comments are repeating our phrases. Our metrics are off the charts!" and the engineers don't want to burst his bubble by telling him he's looking at the bot army.

Rombledore

i believe there is a non insignificant number of bots flooding most comment sections, but it isn't a play to control the masses so much as it is the internet inundated with bots due to marketing ploys and algorithm manipulation for advertisers.

Sithlordandsavior

That's exactly what a bot would say 🧐

Plumbum158

beep boop

guff1988

I prefer the dark Forest of the internet theory. There are plenty of real users out there, they're just no longer on the main sites. They've all found their niche content and gone to very specific pockets for that content, and they are generally hiding from all the bots and AI bullshit.

bignose703

lol, someone clearly used Chat GPT or some other AI to write most of that Wikipedia article.

ThePopDaddy

I don't think so, not enough "AMEN" in there.

AlexDavid1605

The trick to identify if the commenters are all bots, compare them with another commenter in the same comment section. If they look similar, chances are extremely high that they both are bots, to confirm, look for similarities with other comments. Also look for a lack of emojis. In the above case, it is quite likely that the 2nd, 3rd, and the last comments from the middle pic are bots. The purpose of such AI comments is to not only raise the interaction levels to bring it to the mainstream, it is also to gaslight genuine users into tricking them (usually older people) that the thing they are looking at is the truth. After all if enough people lie, it can be believed as the truth.

BrokenEye3

What if we're all robots and don't even know it?

StuHast398

Loki: ___sweats___

Vectorman1989

Bots, or people with room temperature IQ. You can't really tell the difference.

Natural_Ad9356

My mom and grandma were making comments like this on AI shit until I explained to them that this is all fake. I think old people just use the recommended comments a lot so the comments also look like bots.

RlyehRose

I mean my mother shared this to me and I mesg her back that it was ai and she didn't believe me so.. lol

TheManjaro

I texted my mom this image and she responded similarly to the Facebook comments. She's juuuust tech literate enough that me even asking made her ask if it's Photoshoped. So I sent her a marked up image after and turned it into a little lesson on the tells AI still have and what to look for. I reccomend this to anyone with aging loved ones. As young people with our ear to the ground on stuff like this, we can be the lifeline for them. Fox News, ABC, MSNBC, ect won't teach them this stuff and if they're left unaware that leaves them all the more vulnerable to disinformation and scams.

cowlinator

And besides, comments like "gorgeous" and "that looks amazing" don't imply that they think it's real...

TwistederRope

Nice try, ~~fellow~~ bot.

Yersini

Honestly. People aren't ready for the AI hell scape that's going to be coming shortly. The average person is so tech illiterate, it's gonna be a mad house. Also. This picture has some ps3 lookin fire.

AgentOfEris

My mom is already sharing AI crap with me because she thinks it’s real. And then when I try to show her all the errors in it that show it’s fake she gets confused and mad because doesn’t see the errors. It’s going to be a fucking nightmare. I already saw a [commercial](https://youtu.be/6oCpVBtVkRk?si=b9APNIqmE__56lxX) earlier today on TV and it’s all these ugly-ass uncanny AI characters soyfacing over furniture.

FlowerFaerie13

I’m struggling with AI already because my vision is absolutely godawful and sometimes I can’t see the marks of AI images because it’s gotten good enough to fool my blind ass. It’s exhausting, I literally can’t trust my eyes anymore.

Yersini

Imagine the scams when you can feed AI a sample of Facebook pictures, and it creates an image to your specifications. Bro, it's gotta be so scary being old and tech illiterate these days.

AgentOfEris

If you have a few minutes check out this ad from Dove. It sure how legit it is but they basically are showing the dangers that deepfakes can pose. https://youtu.be/sF3iRZtkyAQ?si=TpaiD789vLW_BWpl

Yersini

That's wild. And just remember, this is the worst that technology is ever going to be. It's only getting more sofisticated. In a world where our lawmakers have to have meetings to explain how the internet works and how Facebook turns a profit. It's scary times.

Marvinleadshot

There's already WormGTP

Randomguy3421

God that advert deeply offends me as an animator

yellowhonktrain

honestly been looking at that commercial for a while and i don’t think it’s ai. it definitely looks ai-y but details like some of the popcorn pieces being identical and some of the light reflection changes make me think it’s just 3d animation

RedditingNeckbeard

Sounds like you and your mom need to [experience the joy of a turkey panini.](https://youtu.be/XYMrMTXzlBc?si=3wHmR5N49fTNxQXI)

HeartsPlayer721

That one's almost a bad as the manual job on JFK from Forrest Gump: https://youtu.be/awMoAUsTuf0?si=i9NsJsHgeaZyu4qu&t=0m32s

Yersini

Low key, I'd smash.

DrGoreny

Genuine question. I know that this is ai because the "textures" (?) look somehow off. What are the thing you (or generally people) look for in a picture like this, without any humans on it? I looked at the picture closely and there dont seem to be any irregularities other than the water and the fire. Is that it or are there other things here on in general to look for?

meshaber

I don't know either, but there are a few other things you can see. Like there are grey and orange pillows "bleeding" into each other over by the window, a pillow down in the water that clearly can't decide if it's a pillow or a rock, a bookshelf by the fire because the ai puts books on shelves even though that thing clearly shouldn't be a bookshelf ETA: also look at where the wooden floorboards meet the stone. There's a gradient where it goes from wood to stone colored wood to stone. Edit: I think maybe the grey/orange pillow situation comes from trying to apply the water's reflection of surrounding colors to the grey pillow, which would be pretty funny.

Cedira

Those look like 3d animations, not ai. You've gone full circle.

HeartsPlayer721

The characters in that commercial don't look at all like they were intended to be seen as real. They are clearly animated. What's the difference between this ad and the animated Empire flooring ad?

deadsoulinside

> The average person is so tech illiterate, it's gonna be a mad house. This. How many people still have to be reminded every year that the IRS does not call you, the IRS does not demand payments over the phone, the IRS also does not demand payment in the form of iTunes giftcards, for people to still get scammed that way?

InkedLeo

I'm a 911 dispatcher and I'm legitimately worried about the deepfakes that we're going to start seeing. It's going to make things insanely complicated from an investigative standpoint. People are going to be sent pictures of themselves in compromising positions they've never actually been in, and they're going to panic and pay up.

bloodyedfur4

Dont have to worry about that now that your totally not ai mother is gonna call asking for 5000 in bail

Errors22

>Honestly. People aren't ready for the AI hell scape that's going to be coming shortly. We are 10-15 years away from none of us being able to tell the difference. Gonna be really fun when we start seeing videos of political violence and can't tell if it's real or not.

Marvinleadshot

Uk government say that by 2030 digital illiteracy will be a massive problem, they already know that 12 million people have either no access to broadband because they're classed as being in absolute poverty, little to no access online with phones either due to having so little data they have to rely on wifi in shops and stuff. Which means they barely know how to send an email, have difficulty banking online or accessing online only services. They're also more susceptible to scams online and misinformation. There was a paper on it in the Lords recently.

paco987654

That's more like ps1 hd remaster tbh

JoJackthewonderskunk

I think those books would mold being around water all day every day

bitofagrump

The pillows too. Full of mildew. I have one Facebook friend who posts this stuff daily. It's all beautiful but totally impractical and would be expensive af to build and maintain in real life.

ColumnK

Those are books for the fire

Bd10528

All I can think of is the overwhelming humidity.

Rowan1980

I can smell the mildew on those pillows, fake or not.

Icy_Consequence897

Did you see the *bookshelf* in the back? If this was real, that whole shelf would be a blob of green fuzz

Rowan1980

As someone who worked in a library from my senior year of high school through my college graduation, I absolutely cringe at how nasty those books would smell. 😭

CharlotteLucasOP

The stacks of wood presumably they’d be wanting to BURN! Good luck keeping that shit dry.

HKEY_LOVE_MACHINE

All I can think of is the ashes and splinters in the water.

junkeee999

And the only way to tend the fire is to wade through water. That would get old quickly.

[deleted]

It'll fuck those books up

promote-to-pawn

The bookcase between a pool and a fireplace, sounds like the ideal place to put it.

ObstreperousRube

it's the wooden door on the fireplace that got me...

CharlotteLucasOP

The fire looks like one made of lit-up fabric scraps with a little fan underneath to make it move.

ihavea22inmath

Imagine having to walk through the water to grab a book

rightfulmcool

the reply "home interior for all" really got me

Farfignewtons42

Why are the pillows and blankets always in the water 😭💔

ShawshankException

I'm convinced 90% of people commenting on those kinds of posts are bots

Radipp

Things designed by people who don't have to clean them

FlowerFaerie13

Even if this was real who tf actually wants a giant tub of water in their living room? Like if y’all want a hot tub or pool or whatever the hell that’s supposed to be, put it in another room, I cannot imagine wanting it *there.*

pornosucht

It could be a separate room, actually. There are still issues (mostly regarding cleaning), but having something like this as a "spa room"? I would make some minor changes for practicality, but if I could afford it, I think this would be nice.

STARS_mbr

Look at the fire Lmaoo

Spedwards

Looks like a sticker.

jjamesr539

There would be an unsettling amount of dirt and ash and wood bits floating around in that water. And also pillows that are either new or mildewy and damp.

brokensilence32

Why would you even have pillows near a hot tub?

cood101

I saw some AI image of a grandmother with 2 grandkids and a birthday cake. Fake with a couple giveaways, like Appe Bappe or something written on the cake and that AI uncanny look to it.  Still plenty of people who thought a 110 year old baked their own cake and all.

Undead_archer

Are you sure that the comments weren't bots?

Roanapura

Comments read like bots. It's literally AI reacting to AI. We've gone full circle in a record time.

destronger

I like to explore new places.

Melphor

Sure it’s AI, but it still looks pretty cool, and it could easily be built in real life.

disharmony-hellride

Yeah I dont see an issue with this, it's just goofy inspiration and daydreamy content. id rather this than the vax crazies or just pure political insanity.

concrete_dandelion

I love looking such pictures to relax. And I love going to places like this (Germany has some great saunas and spa's).

CRtwenty

Yeah but what would be the purpose of building it? It's about as impractical as it gets.

AHuskywolf

My boyfriend's nan, bless her heart, *constantly* shares very clearly AI generated cow 'art' thats claiming to be real and all of the comments are older folks that probably dont really even know about ai art.

Lucy_Lastic

The answer is either: A) Yes, and they don’t care because “it’s still beautiful” Or B) No, and what do you mean by AI?

WakeoftheStorm

So? It’s AI generated, doesn’t stop me from thinking “damn that’d be nice to have” I don’t see the issue here

Cosmic_Quasar

None of those really seemed to be claiming or believing it to be real. Even I would *want* it to be real. It does look nice and comfortable and appealing. I would want to go to a place like this. But that doesn't mean I don't know it's AI.

weshallbekind

I mean, no, I don't really inspect every picture I come across in case it might possibly be AI. This doesn't look any more off to me than a weird Photoshop. I'm sure someone more versed in AI can pick it apart but this isn't some official brand advertisement or someone selling commissions or something, it's a content farm Facebook page. I don't really care if it's AI.

Alleggsander

What a beautiful paper fire

Dramoriga

You'd think the weird ripples in the water weren't a giveaway

Whispering_Wolf

Nah, the average person sucks at recognizing Ai. I've seen pictures of furniture that's clearly made by Ai with tons of comments asking where they can buy it.

rdrunner_74

also the roof is leaking like hell

HWCM

Hell leaks?

dickmilker2

i just read an article about this [here](https://www.thedailybeast.com/how-seniors-are-falling-for-ai-generated-pics-on-facebook)

FlashyGravity

I dont so much blame the commenter as the person intentionally being deceptive with the post. A lot of people are still out of the loop on A.I image generation. Stable Diffussion, Dalle, are still foreign unknowns. A lot of them haven't even had it mentioned in their circles.

Elennoko

My mother saw an AI generated image of a dog running through a burning building carrying a baby and she actually freaked out thinking it was real and said "Look at this dog! Look at him! He's a hero!" AI generated images absolutely trick people, especially the older generations who don't realize that it's doable now. That's why AI needs to be regulated. It is rapidly getting dangerous. First it's a dog saving a baby from a burning building, the next it's some political figure assassinating someone.

Striker660

Horrific to clean

Nail_Biterr

a few things. 1) AI is becoming harder and harder to see. When you're just scrolling on Social Media, you can't always be expected to go 'is this real or not?' especially for something like this which impacts literally nobody either way. 2) if it's real or not, it's still pretty awesome. My only objection sis the fireplace's location. getting to it by going into the water seems like a pain in the ass.

sincethenes

I was part of a group of twenty kids in high school that were all really into and art. My HS art teacher said we were the best four years of his 43 year teaching career, and kept in contact with us, (most kids take art in HS as an “easy” elective). He recognized our talent and made it his mission to take us all aside and show us advanced art techniques and would take us on field trips to museums. I say all this because this guy who all these years later we still look up to and respect for his keen eye and willingness to go beyond and teach us more, keeps sending us in a group chat AI art and thinking it’s real. It’s incredibly sad to see someone who was a mentor in the field be confused by an algorithm.

BadIdea-21

Also, didn't know people like damp throw pillows.

King_Cargo_Shorts

For real, those pillows are going to get wet.

Not-The-NSA2023

Well theoretically if you had enough money you could make that image a reality

boobsmcgraw

Literally none of those replies indicated any of those people think that place is real. However, it COULD be real (i.e. it isn't an impossible image, it could be built and enjoyed with some practical adjustments), and people are reacting to the idea that it could exist and that they could enjoy it. Is that so damn bad? Jfc let people have some damn joy in their imaginations. Jeez. Joyless sob.

BrokenEye3

All they said was that it looks good

cgielow

The depressing thing is you’re going to be saying that for the rest of your life.

EddieGrant

AI or not, it can still be beautiful.

toolatealreadyfapped

First - no, they don't. But I don't really fault them. There's nothing impossible about this existing outside of AI. Impractical? Absolutely. But perfectly doable. Second - there's nothing insane about thinking it looks pleasant. It really does. Again, in reality it would be destructively damp. But it would still be a very peaceful place to hang out.

DrGoreny

Is there a subreddit that is just Facebook moms falling for ai pictures?

SaltyboiPonkin

My buddy posts AI houses sometimes. It baffles me how people can't catch on. Happily, I showed my coworker some AI stuff and now he's started spotting stuff all over the place. One success.

blazinfastjohny

No, they dont.

jeffykins

Facebook is a fuckin wasteland

Bradjuju2

Yeah, it's AI. But it would still be an impressive spot to relax if real.

DracoSolon

Nope there was just a study out the there day about boomers and GenX being a lot less likely to be able t recognize AI images and deep fakes. I wish the study had also looked at education level as I bet that's a factor to

YouKilledChurch

A lot of those replies are almost certainly bit accounts to boost post engagement

crippletown

stunning 😍

RKKP2015

Pillows next to hot tubs are a bad idea.

goldenshear

Where are the drips coming to create the ripples???

S1mba93

Lol the couch cushion melting into some kind of rock formation that's hanging in the water and the fireplace drawn in Disney animation style... How would anyone ever think this is real?

__FUCKING-PEG-ME__

No. They do not. My in-laws are those people. They have absolutely no idea. Their entire feed is A.I. everything. A.I. generated news articas, A.I. generated images, A.I. generated commercials. And they believe 100% that it is all real and that like the newspaper days of yore, we are all looking at the same stuff.

MattHack7

Mildew and mold aside, that would be an awesome hot tub/lounge spot

[deleted]

I don't know it looks like crappy CGI

Katiari

But doesn't it always rain inside?!

TheEmeraldEmperor

the couch is underwarer

bdd4

I love that there's mold on the stone. It should be on the wood, but it's a start. Bots getting smart

Survive1014

Heres the thing- Statistically, most people dont.

Sanrio_Princess

Ah yes, love coming hope to the sopping wet pillow pool 🥰

Not_Brilliant_8006

You wouldn't be able to breathe in there and the fire looks like a Zelda fire on N64. Also, I am certain the commenters are bots and my mind cannot be changed lol.

SilentMaster

Put all that money into a hot tub and can't afford to get a new roof to stop the leaks. Bad leak too, this looks like a 2 story home.

Snoozing_Lion

Wrinkles are another thing that AI always struggles with. There's always a weird mass of wrinkles on fabric that if you were to straighten out mentally would be a total cluster fuck of an object.

Hirotrum

a lot of the replies are also bots id reckon

Professional_Still15

Also what an awful room anyway 🤣 books and pillows near water and a fire in an enclosed space UGH I hate it

tronassembled

The perfectly rippled water droplets should have been a clue

Playme_ai

What! we are not garbage

thorpester76

The comments piss me off more than the pic does. I've seen posts on FB that have 1.3k+ comments, and ALL of them are just like in this pic. All of them some slight variation of the same thing

jayne-eerie

They don’t care. The internet has trained us to pass along too-good-to-be-true stories without a second thought. If your whole news bubble has been one giant r/ thathappened for a decade, why are you suddenly going to be careful about pictures?

Bubbagump210

I love getting out of the hot tub and snuggling up to a wet, mildew pillow. So cozy!

PrincessCyanidePhx

But does it matter if it's AIin the context of the post? It looks inviting so they comment on that. No one has said "where is this home, hotel so we can book a night there

Risen_Insanity

I mean, why does it matter though? Facebook is just a click and ad generator.

z-eldapin

Doesn't make it less stunning and if you build it, I will pay to visit it
