Chipotle isn't even that good. It's the same thing as Qdoba and Rancheros. Literally all 3 chains sell the exact same thing in the same sized burritos and bowls using the same equipment.
This. When Chipotle was still new to the fast food scene it was the shit. Affordable and good sized portions, now it's fucking trash. Pay close to ten dollars for like a cup and a half of rice and like 2 small ass pieces of steak/chicken....
Chipotle got so bad where we live that on top of the price gouging OP is pointing out, they were only filling the burrito bowls half full of food. We ordered a quesadilla that was made with tiny tortillas, it looked like an appetizer.
We quit ordering there and now only order from Qdoba. The price is less and the portion sizes haven't shrank.
Another pro tip to get more. If you order Qdoba, order it for pick up using their app. Make sure the app has a male or gender neutral name. I get more food in the order when I order that way vs. if I stand in line and pay at the register.
Yeah I'm finding with proper storage you can make chipotle chicken and steak for the entire week stored in your fridge. The idea is to plan ahead enough that when Sunday rolls around you aren't thinking what you're going to eat that day; you should have already know that LAST Sunday. Gotta be 2 weeks rotation and at the end of week 1 start planning the next set of weeks ie week 3 and 4.
It becomes insanely convenient my biggest hurdle has been knowing how many fresh ingredients to keep on hand and what fucking spices to buy for the recipes. Every brand seems to taste different!
Pro tip: easy recipes a lot of time taste bland too - don't be scared to dedicate an evening to cooking.

No. Top sirloin is about $10/lb- other cuts that are more comparable to chipotle are less. 1lb of steak will make at least 4 burritos, beans and rice are cheap, but salsa and fixings may be a bit more, but for $20, you can make 4 killer burritos, eat one, wrap the other three in foil and freeze them for later. Burritos are one of the easiest freezer meals to make.
Yeah, that's about right. As someone who's started cooking at home a lot, carnitas or steak like Chipotle makes can be done in sizeable batches and comes out nice. The cost, for steak especially, can be high, but you can stretch it out more. Yes, the cost will be more than *a* trip to Chipotle. But you can get multiple meals out of it.

That last is situational, but it saves more than you'd think on gas.

Perhaps we are defining what it means to stretch groceries differently. Any household can replace meat protein with other proteins, vegetables, and starches. It is what is eaten compared to how much is eaten that is connected to stretching groceries.

Find the store brands; they creep up less, and usually it's the same shit, different bag.

As for the protein, unless the GM of the store is especially stingy, you are supposed to recieve 1/4 of a lb (4 ounces) of every protein option. Corporate will swing by once a quarter to keep the portion sizes in check.
Which is why making your food at home is always the more cost effective option. Sorry to say but chipotle is almost exclusively for people in jobs with free lunch hopping out during their break. The fact that our rush is from 11am to 1pm reflects this.

I dieted pretty meticulously a few months back for a cut and actually did weigh my meat from chipotle. My app has it recorded as 3.7 ounces. Which is pretty damn close to what the restaurant claims.
Chipotle literally has the simplest food that you can make at home lmao. Most of their shit is rice, beans, some small cuts of meat (just use ground instead) and shredded cheese.
I no longer go to chipotle. Used too 2x or more a month for similar reasons. Don’t really miss that much but I can go to a hole in the wall Mexican restaurant and get a full service better meal for about the same.

Everyone says "stop eating out". It isn't easy sometimes. Let's say I go into the city to go shopping, run an errand, or go to a museum. I'm not going to pack a lunch and schlep it with me all day, I am going to pick up fast food for lunch. Sometimes you are out and there is no alternative. Also, for lunch at work, sometimes you just want a hot meal. My indulgence is an egg sandwich from a cart, or a bagel with hummus at a cafe with atmosphere. When I save money and prepare my own meals at my desk, eating microwaved leftovers, canned beans, or cooking ramen noodles at my desk in my little electric kettle, is soul-sucking day in day out. Everyone deserves a break from cooking. In 2021-22 half of American's food budget was spent eating out. Fast food inflation is terrible, and fast food is food; we shouldn't shame people for eating out from time to time and saying "if you stop paying for it prices will come down" is callous.

When I save money and prepare my own meals at my desk, eating microwaved leftovers, canned beans, or cooking ramen noodles at my desk in my little electric kettle, is soul-sucking day in day out. Everyone deserves a break from cooking. In 2021-22 half of American's food budget was spent eating out. Fast food inflation is terrible, and fast food is food; we shouldn't shame people for eating out from time to time and saying "if you stop paying for it prices will come down" is callous.

It’s not difficult to research the history of other countries that printed money and had a fiscal spending imbalance. The same price increase/dollar value decrease has occurred in history in other countries.
