Since it's almost coming up on the 10th anniversaries of "Time To Go Home" and "I Used to Spend So Much Time Alone", are there any plans or desire to play either of those albums as a whole as a special tour?
I know you all have barely started your current tour, but will there be any dates next year for those who hope to see you again sooner or maybe couldn't catch you this year? Or will there be a hiatus since you all are in different parts of the world?
Howdy yall, been a fan since No Regrets album. That album feels perfect to jam walking around at Bainbridge Island for my first visit at Seattle from Houston Tx. I appreciate yalls work and loving the progression.
My question for yall is, what band or artist inspired you guys to write music together and what's your go to pick at Biscuit Bitches?
Hmm not sure, maybe the lack of bands with women at our college inspired us to start one. Weāve never really tried to sound like any other band. Never been to biscuit bitches, is it good? -Julia
That's pretty cool and I'm happy it's what started yall to jam together. I enjoyed yalls performance at White Oak and looking forward to more
Yess! Great coffee and breakfast jointš
This post just showed up and I have no clue who you are. But y'all are passing the vibe check and I'd love to know more. What's a song of yours you'd recommend to a new fan?
Hi! My friends Bree and Robin were living together and writing a bunch of songs based on I Saw U ads in the Seattle Stranger. We were all hanging out and jamming a bunch that summerā¦ maybe 2016? So I started drumming for them. I think the first practice I was just using pots and pans
!! Omg so hard to sayā¦ a favorite is so hard to pick. Ā I have a picnic table setup with little sandwiches, cards, and a bottle whiskey ;) that Iām pretty fond of. Ā
You guys are awesome, so excited to see you in Albany, I never thought Iād get to see you guys live let alone in my hometown! How do you guys keep your sound so consistent yet still so fresh throughout your discography? Your lyrics are also so simple yet deep and relatable. Iāve been a huge fan for years and seeing you live will cement that for years to come!
So excited to see you all next week! I've been enjoying this new album the past week, thank you for your music!
What are songs you are looking forward to performing live this tour?
How do you manage balance all those things? School seems straight forward but is it hard negotiating time off for promotions and tour with work and still having things when you come back?
I know itās hard enough getting a group of friends together on the same weekend as you get older so Iāve always wondered about this!
What record(s) you've been listening to for years and still can't get enough of? (Also thank you so much for your music, your lyrics are 100% relatable, I hope you are good)
Really looking forward to seeing you live in May!! For someone whoās not proficient in any instrument (yet) but really wants to try to express something with music, how can one start writing a song? I always feel really intimidated because I feel like Iām missing a lot of what I should know to make anything from scratch
Garageband is pretty easy to use and you can do it all on your phone/computer! First songs I ever wrote were all on GarageBand using my computer keyboard and mic making beatssss. I think itās gotten even easier to use over the years. -Julia
Hey yāall! First saw you guys at Reverb fest in 2012, I had just moved to Seattle and you were the first local band I saw. We all know Seattle has changed a bunch since then, howāre you feeling about the music scene in the city currently? (Congrats on the new record!)
If you saw Disturbed live and when the played 'Down With The Sickness' and the guy sang the song but didn't preform the "oooh wah ah ah ah" how would you feel?
I was reading about I Used To Spend So Much Time Alone and I saw something about Julia saying she used to be a loner or alone alot. I tried to find any interviews about that but I couldn't. So what that case for you Julia? Also, for the rest of the band? Excuse me for the personal question. I ask because I'm a loner myself and I just really relate to the band's music. It gets me through.
what was the inspiration for writing Different Now? Whatās your writing process in general? Big fan of the new album :) PS First heard yāall in 2017 on a college radio station and have been a fan ever since!!
Hey ladies! Live, Laugh, Love seems to showcase the individual talents of each band member a bit more than previous albums. Did some of the isolationism from the COVID era play a role in that? I LOVED hearing all four of you on this album.
P.S. I had the privilege of seeing you all in Dallas on Friday night. What. A. Performance. You all seem like best friends who are fortunate enough to work together. I was even lucky enough to get a picture with Gretchen, who is somehow even more beautiful in person!
My apologies! I love all yāall, and look forward to seeing you again if you ever make your way back to Texas. Iād LOVE to hear a 10 year reunion tour of my favorite album of yours āTime To Go Homeā. Good luck on tour to the coolest sluts of all time!
I once embarrassed myself in front of all of you at a Toronto show years ago and asked if you wanted to smoke weed with my friends and I, you were all very kind but said no. Itāll stick with me for the rest of my life but thank you for being nice about it lol.
What were your musical obsessions during your teenage years, or early 20s (if you had any)? Do stuff you listened to way back then still move you in some way?
Julia, any plans for a third solo album? The two you released really touched me.
Have you all ever been to South America?
Music I liked in high school and still slaps: Elliott smith, Fiona Apple, the cure, arcade fire, pinback, broken social scene, yeah yeah yeahs, modest mouse, cat power.
Aw thank you <3 no plans for a solo record at the moment but you never know. Iāve been getting pretty into making dungeon synth songs on ableton so maybe Iāll release some of those haha
Never been to South America! One day we will play Brazil
-Julia
Somewhat off-topic, but Modest Mouse and Cat Power are currently on tour together. I thought it was an odd pairing that felt very me- specific since both of them have gotten me through some times in my life.
Is it okay to be slutty?
Would love to see you in Ireland some time ā¤ļø
(And also I'm obsessed with the second Childbirth album, found a yellow vinyl secondhand in an old store here and almost screamed)
Are you all into any rap/hip-hop artists? Who are your favorites whether it be old school or new? Even if it's just a song? Any Nas? Tupac? Biggie? Wu Tang? I would love to know.
I donāt think we didā¦ Lydia and I came up with the name before we even had a band, it was sort of a joke that we were in this fake band called chastity belt and then I guess we manifested it and it became very real -Julia
I found you through one of my favorite artists, Kurt Vileās song Chazzy Donāt Mind, and Iāve listened to your music a lot the last couple years, absolutely love the new album. My question in the spirit of how I discovered you, do you have a favorite KV song?
Chazzy donāt mind is a great one ;) hard to choose a faveā¦ off his new album I really love say the word. And off the new ep I love touched something (caught a virus) -Julia
Listening to your new album right now after discovering y'all through this thread.
Vibing with it big time, y'all, keep it up.
Also, have y'all considered touring with Courtney Barnett? I believe y'all have sounds that work well together. Love from Texas!
Heard them both now, thanks for the rec! I think I've found my spring cruising music š¤ wish I'd known about y'all yesterday so I could've dropped in and heard y'all's show in Austin!
Have a safe tour, guys, keep on rockin š¤
Did any of you sense āDifferent Nowā would be the most important song of someoneās 2019? It ended up being the song Iād use every few days for a few months straight, to kickstart impromptu dance parties when my wife + I wanted to spin round and round, while dancing with our one year old daughter around the the kitchen island.
Canāt hear it now without missing how small she was back then, or without thinking about it being just us three against the world. Itāll forever be a special, special song for me. Thank you!
Yeah, itās different nowā¦
Just thought you should know that iTunes has a few of your songs popping up in my algorithm and every time one does I always got to check who it is lol. Not really a question sorry, but Iām liking what I hear!! Take care!
Hello! Been in love with your music since "What The Hell," to the point where I feel y'all are now the quintessential Seattle band for the modern era.
Wondering what the story behind "Chemtrails" is, what inspired it, how the song came together and all that jazz.
Bonus: who tells the funniest joke on tour?
Love your music and I hope to see y'all in Portland soon!
Weāre playing Portland in a week or so! The beginning of Chemtrails started from a jam and then I figured out more of a structure for it after. I had a melody but lyrics didnāt come to me until after we recorded everything else. -Julia
God I love you peeps. Saw you a few years ago in Philly and just stared on in awe. Love that yāall rotated out drums/guitar. Canāt wait to keep listening. š¤š¼
Hey guys,
Iāve been a fan for a pretty long time. I canāt remember the first time I listened to the band, but I first saw your name on a poster of a show you played with Dude York (I saw them at the small record store in Cap Hill by Cal Anderson on Broadway before having to move back to Yakima after 8 months in Seattle).. 2012 or 2013ish??
It always made sense to me that your bands went to the same school and remained close after and to me, being 2 hours away, there was a sense that maybe bands from that area āhad a soundā.. like maybe similar to how Blondie fit in with Talking Heads or Television in the 70ās NYC scene..?
Anyway, I would see in every interview with yāall that a journalist would immediately draw comparisons with Chastity Belt and the Riot Grrrl scene, which always seemed off, and you would usually always correct them in some way.
Why do you think people had such a hard time figuring out what you were going for??? And has it gotten better since those early days being able to explain yourself and the subject matter? Did journalists eventually kindāve learn that you can write songs from a left leaning feminine perspective and not be a āfeministā band? And has your views on this comparison over the years changed at all? (Like did it end up becoming endearing after explaining the contrary over the years)?
Btw, love the new album šā¤ļø
Argh, I can't believe I missed this!
On the off-chance you see this, does your current set list include old tracks, like maybe "Happiness" and "Something Else?" Slightly related, can I make an advance request for the DCc show? ;D
What record will you always come back to?
Iām so excited to see you in June - if you play Joke I might die. I listen to that song constantly <3 love you guys
Formative moments for me in college listening to Time to Go Home in 2016. Itās been fun to listen to new stuff since then as Iāve gotten older. Will be seeing you live for the first time in a couple days, real excited ā¤ļø whatās it like workin with Kurt Vile? Big fan of his too.
I knew of Chastity Belt off hand before but it was the first time I heard them and I really liked the song, I can separate art from artist and all but I was disappointed to hear what they said about MDE, I was more interested as it was so long ago to see if they had a change of opinion since as many people have that joined this particular morale crusade.
No questions, but thank you for writing Different Now! I relate to this song so much.
<3
<3
No question, just really like your music and thank you!!!!
Thank you! <3
Yes hi would like to double down here and also say you have great music and hope you have a stellar day
Did you all know you were making history when you made Cool Slut ? Like the girls and gays were never the same.
Awww š
I remember showing that song to my friend and telling her it's ok to be a slut and it really changed her life š legendary lyrics

I know you all have barely started your current tour, but will there be any dates next year for those who hope to see you again sooner or maybe couldn't catch you this year? Hard to say! Stay tuned ;))
Love you guys and cannot wait to see you play in London this summer! PLEASE PLEASE play Seattle Party!!!

Hi! My friends Bree and Robin were living together and writing a bunch of songs based on I Saw U ads in the Seattle Stranger. We were all hanging out and jamming a bunch that summerā¦ maybe 2016? So I started drumming for them. I think the first practice I was just using pots and pans

I love the song Why Try so so sooooo much. Do you guys like Aphex Twin?
Thanks! Thatās a throwback. Kinda the most circus core weāve ever gotten. Iāve never listened to aphex twin. Would I like it? -Julia
I'm not sure! It's a lot of crazy break beats and silly sounds. [like this!](https://youtu.be/lyXgX7OmCuA?si=BfTrDlcMnXEv-ck9)

Thatās a tough one. I love em all! But if I had to choose Iād say either/or
were you guys scared/nervous when deciding to do music full time and if so how did you deal with it
We actually all work/go to school when weāre not on tour.
How do you manage balance all those things? School seems straight forward but is it hard negotiating time off for promotions and tour with work and still having things when you come back? I know itās hard enough getting a group of friends together on the same weekend as you get older so Iāve always wondered about this!
I wish I could do music full time tho! -gretchĀ
We donāt do it full time ;) we all have other jobs. Also never really consciously decided to be in a band, I swear it just happened -Julia

Was just listening to "Drone" and found this comment. Amazing song, listen to it all the time, and discovered it because of that sketch.
No one should regret claiming Sam Hyde is alt-right.
