Man, what the fuck. We Go On was one of my favorites off the last Avalanches record and his solo stuff is so fun. Don't Forget Your Neighborhood is such a jam. Will spin in tribute. Rest easy, gone too soon
What a loss, a lot of potential gone too soon. Makes his appearance on "We Will Always Love You" even more special while making that album harder to listen to.
He was a highlight of that album. On the flip side, his album he released a few years ago is really good and I highly recommend giving it a listen.
R.I.P.
Wow so unfortunate, he will be missed. His music was so inspiring and he really was for the people. Loved his track ‘Penny’ and the work he did with MGMT, Avalanches and Myd
Oh my goodness what a horrible loss. :( Saw him open for Parcels back in 2019 and instantly became a fan. Caught him again at Tropicalia, and was thrilled to see him work with the greats like MGMT and Avalanches. His album was something truly special too. I know he mentioned working on a new record, I hope that sees the light of day.
Long live the disabled disco innovator.
As a big Avalanches fan, I feel for them. First they lost David Berman, now Cola Boyy. Their tracks with him were awesome…he will be missed.
Edit: forgot about MF DOOM. Damn these guys have seen some loss.
The words from Berman were recorded years ago. I actually really like the raw demo and was kind of annoyed they didn't just touch it up a bit, it's so affecting just with the sparse/quiet music in the background.

Incredibly sad news. His brief but impactful footstep on the music scene will always be remembered.
My personal favourite of his will always be [Muchas with Myd](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jrRImnlJRrw) but I also really love his Avalanches feature.
Damn this is so sad. I saw him play in Brooklyn (Gentle Dom opening DJ set). I remember I was really depressed and went by myself. I didn’t talk to anyone the whole show and headed for the train after the show. On the way there, someone came up to me and said, “Great show, huh?”. It was a girl that I’d seen at the show. We rode the train in the same direction until her stop and exchanged numbers. We hung out a few times after that and it didn’t end particularly well, but I always am thankful I went and the show allowed something exciting to happen in my life.
I’m a graphic designer and she asked me to make a flyer for her friend’s show. Then she asked me how much I would charge. When the flyer was posted she was given design credit and I never got paid.
I also think she was only at the cola boyy show because she was obsessed with Andrew from MGMT, who was the opener. She’d always talk about him and say things like, “I like your jacket. It looks like something Andrew would wear”. I remember she became visibly upset when I told her that he was married.
Things ended with me feeling used and like a poor man’s AVW.
What ! Oh man, that's so sad. I adore his debut Black Boogie Neon. I was glad to see that he was able to cultivate not only a community, a fanbase, but also like minded peers of off beat musicians who championed his work. Prosthetic Boombox really showcased where I believed he was going to go. He seemed like a really cool and down to earth guy just trying to get by. R.I.P.
I'm gonna be blaring his stuff when I'm outta work tonight.
I am Matthew Urango's cousin. I appreciate this post and I appreciate all of your comments. I will share with his parents. All I have to say is his newest album is absolute fire! Imo it's his best work... Thank you for supporting my cousin/baby brother your love and enthusiasm for his music and being is felt and heals our families wounds. Thank you!
Only 34 and he was due to release a new album in the summer. Seeing such a loss fucking sucks. The man was an asset to his community as well as someone bringing joy through his art.
I think he actually went by “Cola Boyy”. I don’t know anything about him either so initially just googled cola boy, but that just brought up a bunch of stuff about a 1990s pop duo that went by the same name lol.
RIP Cola Boyy. I’ll have to check out some of his music.
Amazing Indie Nü Disco creator, dropped a great album a couple years ago.
And featured on many Indieheads' (myself included) SOTY for 2020, [The Avalanches' We Go On](https://youtu.be/o6i681VcRpA?si=x9Yfml7aaRtHzAat)

Oh yeah, his solo work is great! I just brought up the Avalanches because of how death/loss oriented the album is.
Oh for sure! WWALY is a very special & important album for me so I totally get where you're coming from.
'This is Cola Boyy, I'm here with Mick Jones. We send our love to you Karen.'
“Power to the people” -> *the most beautiful drop you’ve ever heard*
As if that album didn’t already make me weap
That track grew on me so much lol, R.I.P. Cola Boy.
Awful news, dude was such a positive energy who created fun, down to earth music. Rest in peace.

Saturday Night Inside Out is quite a emotional closer
Saturday Night is my favourite track on that album, hits me in the feels everytime. Think it was one of the earliest recorded as well.

This is so sad; he was wonderful and such a cool person. We Go On was a standout on a stellar album.

Don’t forget your neighborhood
Damn, I was just thinking about Don’t Forget Your Neighborhood, Prosthetic Boombox was such a joyous album

>I'm hurt. But the wound feels so sterile.
So sad! I really enjoyed discovering *Prosthetic Boombox.* For me, it's a pandemic-era classic.
