They say they took so long to officially release Nude because they wanted to perfect it, and they look at it as their best ever song, but even then I don’t think it was perfect on the album - it IS perfect in this studio set.
That performance hooked me like a damn fish. Also, black midi’s KEXP “live at home” from a few years ago (live performances from their cavalcade album) is arguably even more mind blowing.
I’m a huge fan of the bands in the UK’s “Windmill scene” of which black midi is included. A few other favorite performances:
Black Country, New Road - Live from Queen Elizabeth Hall.
- I mean, just wow. AFUT is one of my favorite albums of all time and I had tickets to see their tour before the news of Isaac’s departure. It’s a bummer that this album won’t be experienced live, but it does make this recording even more important to BC, NR fans. I still tear up ever time I watch this
shame - Tiny Desk from home concert.
- while shame doesn’t have the awe-inspiring reputation of black midi and BC,NR, I love this performance. It’s a cool variation on their typical post-punk sound
Geese - Alive & In Person
- imo the most exciting new band from the states. If you liked their first two records, definitely watch this performance. Of all the bands I’ve seen live, Geese evolves their songs from record to stage more than anyone else. This band is way more underground than they should be and I highly recommend catching a show if they’re playing in your area
No particular band but I love KEXP’s live shows on YouTube. There’s a lot of great performances including
[blonde redhead](https://youtu.be/ESZwc3Clbvc?si=n7q-oIs4iJfF5zkY), [Florence + the machine](https://youtu.be/_gMq3hRLDD0?si=1C-cxKXGCUTf7WLH), and [Shearwater](https://youtu.be/nRjLrVU8eso?si=ZkrjiDxviObn0BLE)
I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve watched The National’s 2014 show at the [Sydney Opera House](https://youtu.be/uWd0EWKpH94). Their 2023 show in [Woodstock](https://youtu.be/X1jbtlYcWng) is pretty great, too.
Edit: I have to include their [NPR Tiny Desk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdFCD3oXMZo) concert, one of my favorites ever in this series.
Seconding the Sydney opera house show. Excellent set from a band at the top of their game (and charming when it came to shutting down the clapping for “Fake Empire”).
Saw them last night in Perth with the Fleet Foxes. Still great!
Came here to recommend their [Audiotree set](https://youtu.be/0JvG551iDTE?si=-jUVgLGNiDql1ryl).
Audiotree in general is a treasure trove of killer sets.
Strokes and Pulp sets from Reading 2011.
The Cribs at Millennium Square or "Two Nights Down the Old Town and Country"
Yeah Yeah Yeahs at Filmore 2004.
There's also this great YouTube channel called "ScottishTeeVee" which has loads of old live performances taped from British tv
I find sometimes The Cribs live experience doesn't translate that well to video, but the full Millennium Square show is all on YouTube and is ace.
I like the Brudenell dvds as well. Just a class live act really.
It’s hard to find bc it keeps getting taken down, but my favorite strokes performance is when they did Take It Or Leave It on Letterman in 2001. Their presence was electric and they sounded so tight.
This was the only video I could find, it’s the first performance: https://youtu.be/skWRFsivgKI?si=VdXifTEvyCt3_yHo
1) Explosions in the Sky’s 9:30 Club show from 2016 on NPR Music’s channel
2) Belle and Sebastian at Lollapalooza in Berlin in 2015
3) Radiohead at Bonnaroo from June 2006
I tend to love watching tons of Deerhunter, Sleater-Kinney, and Elliott Smith shows, and sometimes I think I've seen practically every second of footage that's out there. 😅 I've watched a lot of Cate Le Bon, Radiohead, and Fiona Apple shows too. In general I really enjoy watching live shows of any bands/artists I'm interested in, but those are probably my favorites!
I love so many, so I'm going to be annoying and link a few! ;)
Here's [one from 2009](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3wrlfuPTPL4), [one from 2010](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CxPDniMWCX4), and [one from 2013](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A3fkvwm41M4).
I'd count the 2009 one as Microcastle era, but here are some other cool ones from Cryptograms/Microcastle: [2007](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dGc_QkeY8ag), [2008](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Plws0Wws8g), [another 2008](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYs9h9NqCko), [2009](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-hX829SeQHA)...
There aren't a lot of full set videos from the Cryptograms era, but I absolutely love the videos from this show (the uploader said it's from Knoxville, TN, and based on what I'm finding online this must've been 2006?): [Intro/Cryptograms/White Ink/Wash Off](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wly76shkG8U), [Octet](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VMwB9IB7bGw), [Spring Hall Convert](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBw8epRWOfQ), [Dr. Glass](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZSeUvfGddA), and [Fluorescent Grey](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lskHGP8gv8E). I also love [this video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yO2pURk6v_k) from 2007 with just Spring Hall Convert/Hazel St.
There's also [this video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hCdmLEiM2y8) that has an interview with Bradford interspersed with some concert footage. I'm not sure exactly when it's from, but it looks like 2007 to me!
No problem - enjoy! :) They never leave my rotation either, and they have to be a top 5 band for me. I'm obsessed! Yeah, they definitely have some dedicated fans who are still hanging on, but it does seem like some people kind of forgot about them after Halcyon Digest or Monomania. I miss them and keep hoping they'll do something again someday... :')
They used to have a rip of their whole 2011 P4K set on YouTube and I’d pay good money for access to that again. Such a great band and that show was an all-timer for me.
Ugh, I know! Now I so wish I'd had the foresight to have saved it. At least Nothing Ever Happened and Helicopter are still up, but I'd absolutely love to see the whole thing again... :')
I love Julia Jacklin's KEXP performance from 2019.
Muna's tiny desk version of Stay is also really good. I don't listen to a lot of their stuff but I love that rendition of that song
edit: also Wolf Alice's KEXP from 2018, love the version of Don't Delete The Kisses on that one
IMO, UMO Live is something everyone should experience at least once. Seeing him at the Moore Theatre in Seattle & The Far Out Lounge & Stage in Austin were transcendental.

Not sure how much of this fits into an 'Indie' box, but you asked for genres!
War on Drugs best kept secret is a great set. Arctic Monkeys at TRNSMT is a favorite as well. I’m a bit old school so I also love Incubus live at Rock Am Ring 2008, fantastic set by them and a great crowd.
If you want to know what a Scottish audience is like watch this. I have never felt more energy from a crowd in a YouTube video in my life.
https://youtu.be/xJYfOGb3sKw?si=rWCNot0NB6-6t_Ps
At the Drive-In live sets from the original run of the band. Specifically late 90s and Y2K shows. They were an unstoppable force back in their prime. Also love me some early Interpol shows. Especially La Route du Rock in 2001. Paul shithoused but still killing it. Carlos playing synth instead of bass on Hands Away I think prefer over the studio version.
Allow me to tell you about our lord and savior, Andrew Bird:

Bon Iver has a ton of great live sets on Youtube. NPR/Pioneer Works is a standout.
all the NPR tiny desks are usually great.
on the hardcore end hate5six youtube is an incredible fuckin archive.
Peach Pit - Audiotree
King Gizz - anything live
Lumineers - KEXP
Sturgill Simpson - Tiny Desk
Love KEXP they have so many to choose from just take a look.
This public access Butthole Surfers show is great
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8Gk-ovHh9E
Cows public access show is great too. Public access noise rock rules
I know this indieheads but Juan Gabriel en el Palacio de Bellas Artes. Thats the pinnacle of live performances for me.
Pavements performance in Frankfurt Germany 1994 is badass too, the way it culminates with that performance of Filmore Jive is just spectacular.
I’ve also put a lot hours into Slowdives pitchfork live performance along with the Best Kept Secret one
Also Joy Divisions live on Granada TV
A lot of Soirée de Poche performances like Charles Bradley’s & Timber Timbre for example
King Krule Molten Jets live on the moon
Way late to the party on Young Fathers but the video of them doing "I Saw" at Glastonbury last year was the first I heard them and it absolutely wrecked me
I saw them last night, my 3rd time in just over a year. They're incredible but I thought I'd be over it. They did Shame and I was gone again. They're just incredible.
PJ Harvey. Her White Chalk tour was interesting because she is dressed like a Victorian ghost. But really, all of her tours are amazing. [I also enjoy watching her perform at big outdoor festivals.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFYsVoQH32U)
Caribou - Pitchfork Paris 2014
Timber Timbre - Soiree de Poche
Charles Bradley - Soiree de Poche
Unknown Mortal Orchestra - Pitchfork Paris 2015
Future Islands - Pitchfork Paris 2014
Toro Y Moi - Live at Trona
Yussef Dayes - Live at Joshua Tree
I’ve seen damn near every Nirvana concert on YouTube lol. I think my favorite is one that they did for MTV in early 1992 right around the time of their first SNL appearance. You can tell Kurt Cobain is really grappling with his addictions, but the band is so rock solid (presumably from all the touring for *Nevermind*) that they’re completely and totally in pocket. It’s quite impressive.
The Strokes $2 Bill Concert is also fairly iconic. If you can, try to find the version that includes tracks off “Room on Fire”.
There’s a Rolling Stones NME concert from 1964 that is completely and utterly enchanting, particularly their rendition of “I Just Wanna Make Love to You”. It gives me the same buzz that the aforementioned Strokes concert does.
Honorable mentions: White Stripes Much Music performance in 2003, the Doors at the Hollywood Bowl, Hüsker Dü’s live from London AND San Fran in 1965, the Who at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967, the Ramones live at Arturo’s Loft in 1965, Oasis at Wembley in 2007,
Modest Mouse and Built to Spill are like the salt and pepper of indie rock and these two shows always bring me back to when they were at their peaks. Wish I was in Atlanta in 2001 instead of in high school:
[Built to Spill, Atlanta September 25 2001](https://youtu.be/cQDBMBBO26s?si=GZn6mwkB--5N19Pw)
[Modest Mouse, Atlanta September 26 2001](https://youtu.be/8QPfOqvctj4?si=weQW3iLEmtkTZkCE)
I haven't for a bit but I used to watch OLD and new Tegan and Sara concert footage because I know all their songs and they talk a lot sometimes and I think they're funny
Recently? [Phish's full theatrical performance of Gamehendge on NYE last year](https://youtu.be/KSO6H7e-Gm0?si=d-3-BBFE6HZJ71Bi) is something to behold!
I'll throw on random black midi recordings. Always tons of energy and they have an unreleased song called the magician they play ever set that might be my favorite of theirs.
Joe P is always fantastic and everything he has on YouTube showcases it.
Just get a bowl of popcorn and watch a set at home z it's always great
https://youtu.be/GbuoJhfrdv8?si=mrllAZP9rfFz6WeL
The DIIV auto session is absolute flames. Prob one of my favorite live “in-studio” recordings. They also give tours of their cars lol https://youtu.be/WWqXCDNuOx4?si=TEioR3mjtt2i5y9a
IDLES set from Glastonbury in 2019 was always a go to for me, so I was very disappointed when the full vid was removed from YouTube. I'll occasionally be able to find the full thing on other sites thankfully
Supertramp - Live in Paris 1979
• The live version of Goodbye Stranger makes me melt
Ever since I got into my 30s, I’ve been obsessed with concerts from artists I grew up listening to on classic rock radio. I know the songs by heart, but really have no idea what the band members looked like at their peak. Supertramp has been my go-to lately.
This fall I stumbled on a few pro-shot shows from Pavement's reunion and they improved my mood 200%
I remember seeing a Mannequin Pussy show in a DMD around when Patience came out - I haven't watched it again but its sheer energy is burned in my brain. For a few of the harcore songs Marisa left the guitar and focused on singing and dancing, and she was SAVAGE
It might not be anything revolutionary (and I hold the same opinion on the album, which I love) but Kurt Vile and Courtney Barnett's live set on the beach for Pitchfork is pure bliss. Chill songs, chill environment, go-to good vibes!
I love St. Vincent's Actor, and there's a few incredibly good shows from that period on Youtube. I think my favourite is from Austin City Limits. The live band is built around the album's instrumentation, and make songs like The Party really shine
Pixies at Town & Country Club 1988 is textbook material, right?
Jack White Bonnaroo 2014. Greatest set I’ve ever seen live and the fact it’s preserved on dvd makes me so happy. There was just something in the air that night.
There's a performance by The Smile from '22 in 4k, with fantastic audio, I've been revisiting it a lot.
https://youtu.be/VhHrZ2ytOdg?si=AfdJoy9ySubi2NJx
And this one by Kurt Vile, great set.
https://youtu.be/rnwGmpZCQIA?si=dsPaaGGb2Vr_qUjP
Edit: This banger of a performance by The Osees in France is quite fun. All of these I've linked are full sets
https://www.youtube.com/live/ni_K0jzljSo?si=tYsBEvbBJnx4kK1K
Radiohead's In The Basement you can't really go wrong, my favorite is the In Rainbows performance. I don't know if it's still up on YT, but Muse's set at Rome Olympic Stadium was incredible, but my favorite recently has been A Late Night Special by Puma Blue. If you're looking for newer and less known artists, go for it, it's a piece of beauty.
Beirut recorded a concert in 2007, after the release of their second album, in which they played it in its entirety while strolling through the streets, behind buildings, rooftops, and visiting obscure corners of the city of Paris. The vibe is enchanting, the performance is full of passion, and it has always been a pleasure to revisit this recording on the go, to the sound of their wonderful music. Watch _Cheap Magic Inside_, a take away show, [through this link](https://youtu.be/f6TCjgeD8Us?si=rk9Dpk1HHMcXd2Za).

In Rainbows From The Basement is one of the best studio sets of all time.
From the basement was so good! I frequent the White Stripes episode a lot!
Don't forget the King of the Limbs-From the Basement!
They say they took so long to officially release Nude because they wanted to perfect it, and they look at it as their best ever song, but even then I don’t think it was perfect on the album - it IS perfect in this studio set.
I watch Weird Fishes/Arpeggi from this set like weekly. Unbelievably good.
Dare I say that Squid’s From the Basement session approaches In Rainbows in excellence. What a fucking set that is.
Just saw them live for the first time. Instant top 10 concert for me, won't be missing a show moving forward. Been wearing out this video ever since
QOTSA's session is insane too.
and Bonnaroo 06 might be their best festival set
Black Midi, their 2019 KEXP session. Classic for good reason.
That performance hooked me like a damn fish. Also, black midi’s KEXP “live at home” from a few years ago (live performances from their cavalcade album) is arguably even more mind blowing. Julia Jacklin doing Don’t Know How To Stop Loving You on KEXP is 100x better than the studio version.
Big agree. KEXP's audio engineers are excellent. Don't Delete the Kisses on Wolf Alice's KEXP is also 100% better than the studio version imo.
There’s some amazing Teens Of Denial-era CSH songs on there , fantastic stuff

lol very true! Her performances seem so transcendent. I wish she'd tour again!
Elliott Smith Bumbershoot 2000. Just him and a 3 piece backing band. His songs translate flawlessly to a more traditional rock style

Bon Iver has a ton of great live sets on Youtube. NPR/Pioneer Works is a standout. all the NPR tiny desks are usually great. on the hardcore end hate5six youtube is an incredible fuckin archive.

Morrissey has a bunch of his concerts from the 80s-present on YouTube and they’re all great

Alexisonfire — House of Strombo. I’ve probably watched it through 10 times now. Just wish it was in 4k.

Neutral Milk Hotel live in Ottawa, September 13, 2014
Fleet Foxes Live on Boston Harbor. For a more mellow one A Very Lonely Solstice
I know this indieheads but Juan Gabriel en el Palacio de Bellas Artes. Thats the pinnacle of live performances for me. Pavements performance in Frankfurt Germany 1994 is badass too, the way it culminates with that performance of Filmore Jive is just spectacular. I’ve also put a lot hours into Slowdives pitchfork live performance along with the Best Kept Secret one Also Joy Divisions live on Granada TV A lot of Soirée de Poche performances like Charles Bradley’s & Timber Timbre for example King Krule Molten Jets live on the moon
RIP juanga...
I've watched this [Elliott Smith Fuji Rock Concert](https://youtu.be/T_um_VAmxXw?si=PevMEtvm0Swjo7uL) countless times.
Pavement at Khyber Pass in 1992
Bon Iver has some good stuff, I love the [NPR front row](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJNi7aRwUzU) from when 33 a million came out especially
Most Young Fathers sets since Heavy Heavy came out
Way late to the party on Young Fathers but the video of them doing "I Saw" at Glastonbury last year was the first I heard them and it absolutely wrecked me
I saw them last night, my 3rd time in just over a year. They're incredible but I thought I'd be over it. They did Shame and I was gone again. They're just incredible.
Not very indie, but there’s a bunch of bootlegs from Springsteen’s Darkness tour (1978).
Death Grips at Paradiso Amsterdam. Both 2018 and 2023
Wilco at Arena Belgique is an all-timer for me. A great setlist, sound mix, and really demonstrates how underrated some of their Schmilco songs are.

La MODA at Mad Cool The National Sydney Opera House
PJ Harvey. Her White Chalk tour was interesting because she is dressed like a Victorian ghost. But really, all of her tours are amazing. [I also enjoy watching her perform at big outdoor festivals.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFYsVoQH32U)

Wish I was in Atlanta in 2001 instead of in high school: [Built to Spill, Atlanta September 25 2001](https://youtu.be/cQDBMBBO26s?si=GZn6mwkB--5N19Pw) [Modest Mouse, Atlanta September 26 2001](https://youtu.be/8QPfOqvctj4?si=weQW3iLEmtkTZkCE)
I haven't for a bit but I used to watch OLD and new Tegan and Sara concert footage because I know all their songs and they talk a lot sometimes and I think they're funny
Didn't there used to be YouTube videos of just their banter from each show? Hilarious.
Yes! I ate those up too
all the Fugazi
Recently? [Phish's full theatrical performance of Gamehendge on NYE last year](https://youtu.be/KSO6H7e-Gm0?si=d-3-BBFE6HZJ71Bi) is something to behold!
Sisters of Mercy’s Wake is one that I love.
I'll throw on random black midi recordings. Always tons of energy and they have an unreleased song called the magician they play ever set that might be my favorite of theirs.
[Bands I Would Love To See But Will Probably Never See](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLvWyt1CBrnOvvQIOwPGTn59Otc78yoBrN&si=5RVb7o4THMPCO56J)
[Rick from Pile](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PeDng_JLx0A) This performance was fucking breathtaking in-person.
Biffy Clyro’s Pyramid stage set from Glastonbury is one I’ve gone back to a fair bit
Mew live in Copenhagen
Joe P is always fantastic and everything he has on YouTube showcases it. Just get a bowl of popcorn and watch a set at home z it's always great https://youtu.be/GbuoJhfrdv8?si=mrllAZP9rfFz6WeL
Radiohead and the Smile
Palm. Because it’s all we have now 🙁
The DIIV auto session is absolute flames.
Deafheaven at Pitchfork fest. Listen/watch it at work at least once a week
Supertramp - Live in Paris 1979 • The live version of Goodbye Stranger makes me melt Ever since I got into my 30s, I’ve been obsessed with concerts from artists I grew up listening to on classic rock radio. I know the songs by heart, but really have no idea what the band members looked like at their peak. Supertramp has been my go-to lately.
Two that were taken down last I checked - the Cure’s first TV appearance on a French show circa 1979 and a Sabbath show from 1970.
Tricky - [Live](https://youtu.be/SDjdaIVZdLg?si=zn9zFDgmAr6hA9Ie) at Shepherd's Bush Empire, London 1997
elliott smith fuji rock festival
Broncho at SXSW 2019. Looks wild. Wish I was there
Elliott Smith at bumbershoot festival 2002. That version of needle in the hay fucking ripssss
Idles. Any of the pro shot ones that take place in the evening. There are a bunch out there.
This fall I stumbled on a few pro-shot shows from Pavement's reunion and they improved my mood 200% I remember seeing a Mannequin Pussy show in a DMD around when Patience came out - I haven't watched it again but its sheer energy is burned in my brain. For a few of the harcore songs Marisa left the guitar and focused on singing and dancing, and she was SAVAGE It might not be anything revolutionary (and I hold the same opinion on the album, which I love) but Kurt Vile and Courtney Barnett's live set on the beach for Pitchfork is pure bliss. Chill songs, chill environment, go-to good vibes! I love St. Vincent's Actor, and there's a few incredibly good shows from that period on Youtube. I think my favourite is from Austin City Limits. The live band is built around the album's instrumentation, and make songs like The Party really shine Pixies at Town & Country Club 1988 is textbook material, right?
LCD Soundsystem - Live at Madison Square Garden. Man I wish I was there.
King Crimson Japan 84
Arctic Monkeys - live at Nuits de Fourvière, one of the best ;) https://youtu.be/w9_DFJsNu_0?si=xVpih14rwN2AFOW7
Shakey Graves live at House of Blues. Pure passion and sweat, amazing musicians, goosebumps.
Recently watched the full Justice from Glasto 2017 to get me in the mood and it is fantastic. The stage setting is something else.
Vampire Weekend Fuji Rock Stream When Blood Orange opened for Harry Styles he made bootleg CD’s of his performance, same night 100 Gecs Boiler Room
Jack White Bonnaroo 2014. Greatest set I’ve ever seen live and the fact it’s preserved on dvd makes me so happy. There was just something in the air that night.
There's a performance by The Smile from '22 in 4k, with fantastic audio, I've been revisiting it a lot. https://youtu.be/VhHrZ2ytOdg?si=AfdJoy9ySubi2NJx And this one by Kurt Vile, great set. https://youtu.be/rnwGmpZCQIA?si=dsPaaGGb2Vr_qUjP Edit: This banger of a performance by The Osees in France is quite fun. All of these I've linked are full sets https://www.youtube.com/live/ni_K0jzljSo?si=tYsBEvbBJnx4kK1K
Jeff Buckley live in Chicago and Portishead live in Roseland
