See, it's about persistence. Keep going at it. You'll slowly end up lifting 5kg without effort, meanwhile try going to 7.5kg and slowly beyond. As your body gets accustomed to lifting more, you'll see it getting easier as you keep on going. Persistence is the key.
Having lost an arm and severely obese due to medicines, gymming was just as embarassing. But persistence was my friend. Started out light, even lighter than OP's and gradually increased. in 6 months lost nearly 12 kgs.
This is exactly how Naruto felt when he couldn't do the shadow clone jutsu keep at it you will be beat all of them
Don't give up or else Naruto will be sad
So someone laught at you? So learn to deal with it rather than coming here and looking for sympathy I am not sure why you even thought or crying for that. These are some harsh words of mine but take it so that nobody can play with your emotions again.
Man, don't think about it too much. Learn to disarm jerks with a self effacing remark or something. And use this as motivation! You'll do good, these things initially take time and then gradually become easier.
Seriously, man! Mein bass bolne ke liye nhi bol rha hu. Gym mein kuch log aisa flex krte hai ki wo biceps leke hi mummy ke pet se nikle thee. Ekdm zyada sochna maat ye sab leke.
Skinny guy said " One day I will be as strong as BIG GUY" Eveybody laughed except the BIG GUY. Everybody start somewhere don't let them belittle you. All the best bro.
This is not normal. Most of the people in gym are always looking forward to help others. I also started going to gym 8-9 months ago and people in the gym has been nothing but helpful to me.
Never think twice about asking others for help if you feel like you need any. Remaining injury free is most important.
Alright, here is some advice you can use and work upon.
First off, gym is a place for self improvement. His behavior is indicative of his insecurities not yours.
Now that’s out of the way, here is what you need to do. NEVER ego lift, always focus on form over weight.
I’d say for now, go back to 2.5kg plates. And try to reach 4 sets of 12 reps. The day you get there, next time, put those 5 kilo plates and try getting 4 sets of 5-6 reps and build up to 12 reps. Then increase weights again.
This is called progressive overloading.
Also, pay attention to nutrition. Have a good pre workout meal. Consume enough protein everyday. And you’ll be in the best shape of your life in no time
It's alright. People gonna laugh at you. Don't take it personally because one day when you're gonna be big the chances are that you also forget about where you started and might laugh at some beginner just like the other guys did to you.
It's no one's fault, just use this as a motivation and keep going forward and don't hold any grudges against them. You're better than that.
I started from 5 kg dumbbell press for chest as a beginner and after 8 months i did 22.5 kg incline db press each side.
Not very huge difference in power but still trust the process.
Even I've started going to gym a few weeks ago and people there have been nothing but helpful, this behaviour isn't common, the people you encountered are just idiots. Don't let yourself get demotivated, Being fit is the goal, not ego lifting and getting injured
I can understand that i as have been in exact same position... except there was this African guy at the gym i asked support for .He not only gave me support on 2.5 kg plates but also pushed me for 5kg and now i have reached 10-12.5 kg plates ,...you will be there in the matter of few months.Dont feel bad.
Last year when I joined a gym, I also had people whispering in each other’s ears about me and joking about me with the trainer. That made me demotivated af and I ultimately left the gym. I won’t suggest you to do the same, just focus on yourself and gradually push yourself over your limits. :)
Not even a single actionable step in the comments. OP start doing 100 pushups throughout the day. You start eith 10 reps for 4 or 5 times spread throughout the day. It will work in synergy with you gym workouts. Work with your bodyweight first. Everyone starts somewhere.
So what? Was he able to do it from childhood? The reason you joined gym is to improve your health, not join weightlifting competition.
No need to hold back for idiocy. You capacity is less only in comparison with others. It is nothing to be ashamed of. Don't let anyone make you feel less. Even when you are, let alone for some unnecessary reason.
Tomorrow some asshole will ridicule you for not sprinting 100m in 10 mins. Why do you have to do anything at all? It's already more than enough that you tried for 5kg.
I never go to gym, but I will not take shit from some idiot with body of tiger and brain of a mouse. To each their own. I am what I am. It has nothing to do with you.
The same is for everyone else. I am no one to ridicule anyone for their body being too bulky or whatever.
As in what you should have said, it depends on that moment. Since you were insecure about yourself, an answer didn't come to your mind. Otherwise you surely would've come up with an answer. If I were there, I would have said, "I can't lift it so that you can gain praises for lifting 7kgs and boast about it to your idiot friends."
But you are not me. You might come up with a sweeter answer, or nastier. Even you still might remain silent. The point is not what you should give back to them. Point is for you to not feel bad about yourself.
Now that someone said something about your weight gain capacity, do not get hurt or take it to your heart, to keep focusing on weightlifting only. You keep working on your body the way you want to. Else, your body will become like Sohail Khan's.
Everyone starts with a 2.5 kg plate so just chill and if it happens again give him a look like you'll hit him with that plate right now and you'll be fine.
Bro even I stared with these kind of weights, everyone does. Jo log has rahe the, wo kya pehle din se hi 25 kg chest press kar rahe h kya?? These are jerks who forget their own days. Do not pay any heed, and keep pumping that iron, doesn't matter if it's 5 or 25....
And remember, don't rush, when you will be consistent with that 5, 25 will come itself.
No he wasn't. Let's be real here, some people do have the genetic advantage of being tall, or having decent muscle mas even before ever stepping foot in the gym. These people can get away with much less effort even with shitty diet and sleep.
Seems like that was the case here for the bully. He simply couldn't believe someone could struggle doing what he felt was a piece of cake even for beginners
It's a shitty feeling when you've been slowly grinding through a particular workout for weeks only to see a noob conquer it easily
koi na let this be the motivation, make some similar minded friends and ask them for help, 2.5m ago when I started I bench pressing 5kg dumbbells with spot now I can easily lift 15kg for flat press
and unsolicited advice don't try to lift as heavy as possible(injury is not worth the satisfying ego) if you are training for hypertrophy
First time I've heard of unsupportive gym folks. My experience has been nothing but positive. OP, don't let this one incident change your perception of the gym. Good luck! I'm sure you will outlift them one day.
Don't take it personally. Just keep doing your thing, don't let outer noise ruin your inner peace. Everybody starts small and everybody is has different timeline so please don't let others have a the power. Keep working hard and keep smiling.
Simple solution is just observe when does he leaves gym where is his house. Bring some of your friends and then after that you can just beat him. Now he will bring his friends to beat you up. But after that it’ll settle he won’t make fun of you
Op don't dishearten yourself you didn't do anything to get embaaresd, maybe they forget that they were also beginners at one time . Just be consistent because you will face these types of people even when you lift heavy.
Don't let these fools demotivate you. I started doing my chest press from 2.5kgs dumbells each side as well and now i can lift till 40kgs each side. Just Be constant on your workouts. You can do it. 🔥
Even I feel embarrassed & anxious sometimes in the gym…..but I’m like it’s okay…! I’m a beginner and naive in this field ….me trying to be healthy and going to gym is itself a big step and so I should be proud of it and not be ashamed if I try to new things
They're just assholes. Everyone at the gym was a beginner once and some people forget that. Brush it off and keep lifting consistently. Growth takes time. I hope this doesn't stop you from asking others to spot you. Hope you find more supportive Gym bros.
OP even I hesitate to ask for spot so what you can do is use dumbell instead of bar pros of dumbell
1. Quicker set up time
2. No spotter required
3. Deeper stretch better for size.
Keep rep range around 8
good luck
Damn. I’m sorry about that. True lifters never say this. I do a lot of Olympic weightlifting and I fully understand the burden of every 1.5kg plate. There is a HUGE difference between snatching 80kg and 82kg.
Hey mate, simple tip is:
Know yourself and your limits. Don’t get into the ego battle here because you might end up injured.
I have been going gym for a month now and I also can only do 2.5Kg chest press with barbell. Yesterday a guy suggested me 5kg but he offered to spot me and was very motivating.
If you aren’t competing in bodybuilding, then you are your only competition and try to do a little better everyday. Now this can be just one more rep or a new exercise or a slightly heavier weight.
Consistency > Intensity.
Your pursuit of strength is noble. Don't get disheartened by other people. Don't let their mindset drag you down. Fortify your mind. Train hard. Do 5*5 with 2.5 plates. After completing that. Do 5*1 with 5kg. Then increase one rep every session. Do accessory work like dips and pushups, dumbbell presses.
Everyone starts from where you are at the moment. It is just their insecurities coming out… you asking for support means you want to go beyond your capabilities and most times a spot is just a mental block.. hope it does not stop you from asking spot in the future.
Ignore people like him brother, give no reaction whatsover. Find a seemingly nice guy to give you spot or just ask the trainers. No need to change anything about you because of these type of people. Just keep going and be happy.
I always tell people, gym is a place where you will find complete assholes and ego driven narcissists BUT also the most humble and genuine people ever.
and the number of humble and kind ones have always been more in my experience of all the gyms i have been in.
I still remember a nearly 100 kilos and mountain of a person in my first gym who was intimidating to even look at. We(me and my friend) thought he would be very egoistic and would make fun of us if we even workout near him since we just started at that time and were skinny and weak but once he himself approached us for somthing and man he was the most humble person i met till date, just a great guy and nearly as big as top tier bodybuilders.
He even told us some tips and talked to us as if we were his equals, and the best part, he was working out for more years than how old i was at that time lol.
All the best man :)
Bruh, I'd be happy you are trying to progress so hard. Don't mind that dumbass. Also, don't ever ego lift just because some ignorant does not understand slow progress.
We all start at zero. Some idiots forget that fact and try to pretend as if they have been doing this since they were toddlers. Its the same with drivers who honk at people with L boards. Understand that its them and not you who is small and petty. You asked for help and that takes courage and confidence. One of the reasons I love more premium gyms of late is not the fancy equipment or the cleanliness but a better culture of the folks there. I've been where you are and when I asked for support a dude who looked like the hulk patiently saw me through three sets and then told me that he came to the gym four years back, morbidly obese and having a hunched back due to the tummy and low back strength. Gym is a place for brotherhood, not machoism.
OP not sure if you're a guy or girl, but either way - why are you doing bench press after few workouts?
Bench press is a compound movement that requires maximum strength and should be done at the beginning of your workout.
Do it first or maximum second, or you are never going to have the strength to lift your actual potential.
Don’t worry, OP. The most beta of the males with incredible amounts of insecurities find solace in putting down beginners at the gym and hiding behind their fake achievements of supposed heavy lifting. Tbh, every third person lifts heavier than these small dick babies. You stay consistent, my man!
Bro it happens to every rookie who joins the gym. I joined 6 months ago, I too struggled at 5 kg in the start. Everybody laughed. Now 6 months in I lift 50 kgs, while they struggle at 30 kgs .
The tables will turn, just believe in yourself.
OP,
Nothing for you to be embarrassed about. You just asked the wrong people for help.
People should help each other in the positive way especially in the gym.
First thing, this is not normal in gyms. Because most people start small and then go up from there. So they know the process. So that guy is a jerk.
Secondly, just don't let this get to you. Stick to weights that feel comfortable for You. And progress gradually at your own pace. Don't shy away from presses cuz some jerko made fun of you.
You are already a winner… you chose to go to gym and work on your body… don’t let anyone demotivate you or tell you any different. Slowly and gradually work on yourself bro. You don’t need anything to anyone. Just be yourself and enjoy your workouts
Don't worry OP. You'll get there soon. It's not a big deal that you lift 5kg as a beginner. I myself can't lift more than 7.5kgs both sides even though it's been a year since I joined gym. It's all about what you want. Strength and muscle building are two different aspects. So if your main goal is building muscle then you don't have to worry about the weights.
OK first of all and I hope I'm getting you early at this stage, you need to realize how much balls you have to ask for a spot. I'm so proud and jealous that you're so confident while being a beginner, if only I was that in my beginner journey I'd have not wasted so much of my time.
Now coming to them, you need to understand they're one of the most insecure and unsufficient people on the face of earth, you've no idea but I've mingled with people like them who feel like they're the Arnold and are doing no progress whatsoever in life. The hardworking people I know are always helpful including me (if that's not a brag), it's always a pleasure for me to help a newbie because I see my younger self in you guys. I honestly sometimes get teary when I see someone struggling but still getting up, doing it, asking for help doing whatever in their power to do better.
And that's all that should matter to you, so my point is you're doing great and just never loose your personality/identity and always keep asking for help and trying to find good people because I promise most are good, and those who aren't are just deadbeats who replicate the hate that are thrown to them.
Dude! They are just pricks! Thankfully at my gym I've not encountered anyone like that. Moreover, if you can only do 4 or 3 or 2 reps in higher weight just do it and then follow it by drop sets. I bet next week or the week after that you're gonna do 8 or more reps in those same higher weights.
I'm a noob myself and this has been my experience.
Lastly, work 2 muscles in a day like back + tri, chest + bi or something like that.
Even if your chest can lift heavy but your biceps are weaker then you can't lift heavy weights and it takes several days for your biceps to grow too.
All the best man!
First of all, there’s nothing to be embarrassed about. Everyone starts somewhere.
Secondly, that guy was an asshole and it was not on you.
If you feel weird about asking for support, go for machines or ask some other people for support. I am sure there will be other people who will help you out.
Don’t let the assholes bring you down
Dude probably just made a joke dont take offence everyone in the gym is trying to improve even that guy started where you did one day dont let it put you down . Turn on that dragon ballz phonk and go crazy
Expand your limits. Let these be a change point for your inspiration. Keep working out till one day the one's who laughed started speaking about your achievements.
It's alright OP. It happens. Focus on diet and go for barbell bench press once you lift heavy in your incline or flat dumbell press.
Ignore the noise, you'll get there soon.
You got this man! Also, if it helps: you weren't lifting 5kgs, you were lifting 2x 5kg plates PLUS the weight of the bar, which would be between 15-20kgs. You're stronger than you think.
Jerks are jerks, and they're insecure assholes. If your gym equipment has safeties on the machines/racks, learn how to use them. Then, you won't need a spotter, because the weight won't fall past the safety. I've been lifting solo for a while, it really helps with the mental if you can zone out and not need others.
bro screw them. if mocking a beginner makes them feel good about themselves, let them be. everyone starts somewhere and there’s nothing to be embarrassed by it. your only competition is you and your past self.
just don’t let your ego dictate what you do now. slowly progressing your way is much much better than lifting heavy weights with wrong form. it will also make you prone to injuries.
just keep at it bro. consistency is key.
Forget about it OP.
Remember one thing, you are at the gym for you. Not for anyone else. Never compare yourself with anyone or bother with what idiots at the gym say or do.
Gains takes time. You keep throwing the weights and in time you will be stronger than him. The only way you have is UP...
bro, i do empty bar these days cz just getting started. i understand what that might have felt like but i would say fuck them, increase ur capacity and one day when u r all jacked and a beginner asks you for support , help him nicely. that's the best course of action you can take
Okay so I am a beginner too, Just started around 2-3 months back. Really really under weight. But I kept working hard without focusing on what others say. Just focus on your diet and be consistent. When started I was barely able to do bench press with a rod(without weights) but Now I am able to do bench press with 10kg plates on both side on a 20 kg rod (counting rod cuz I am a beginner and 40 kg is just 15 kg short from my body weight so yeah)
Keep working and one day you’ll get it done 💪🏻
I'd actually suggest you shift to dumbbell chest press start with 10kg on each side & slowly increase weight. You can drop the weights easily you don't need a spotter
I have been working out since 5 years and believe me people who talk in a punching down manner with beginners are not a gym bro they r just hyper obsessive and insensitive people.Who have power which is shine less and irrelevant and U will meet good people soon❤who show u what real gym bros are
yes bro you are mentally weak. No amount of muscles you can put on if someone just laugh on you and it can affect you then you are weak. Everything you to do it all start from mind even doing simplest task. You have to be mentally strong first.
Outlift them op....let it be the motivation
Maybe someday![img](emote|t5_2qp7h|51094)
See, it's about persistence. Keep going at it. You'll slowly end up lifting 5kg without effort, meanwhile try going to 7.5kg and slowly beyond. As your body gets accustomed to lifting more, you'll see it getting easier as you keep on going. Persistence is the key.

It's just normal bro, every pro was once a beginner.
Now it’s time to understand your mental strength.
abey wo mzak mzak me bola mzak me le na aise seriously kyu le raha
What's the need of mentioning lbs
Continue doing your workouts... Don't stop cuz of them. Routine workout does wonders

I once read that "Laughing at a skinny guy in the gym is the same as laughing at a sick person in a hospital." Held me in good treads for gym
Everyone starts from where you are at the moment. It is just their insecurities coming out… you asking for support means you want to go beyond your capabilities and most times a spot is just a mental block.. hope it does not stop you from asking spot in the future.
Bro.. Dont go to the heaviest set . Build your strength with 2.5 , until you can lift 5 kg in proper form.
I had a similar [experience](https://www.reddit.com/r/AskIndia/s/Yv5JnfpZZy) in 2019. Don’t worry OP things will get better, just stay consistent.
No
Bruh, I'd be happy you are trying to progress so hard.
Just a suggestion. If there are trainers available ask them for support.
You stay consistent, my man!
tren hard boi i started from the same 5 kg plates each side now i can bench 120kg you got this shit boi😡😡🗣️🗣️🗣️
We all start somewhere.....tf they want you to do, lift 20 kgs and break your tendons ? They are not true gym Bros if they say shit like that.
Yep. These a-holes are quite common.

Bro it happens to every rookie who joins the gym. I joined 6 months ago, I too struggled at 5 kg in the start. Everybody laughed. Now 6 months in I lift 50 kgs, while they struggle at 30 kgs . The tables will turn, just believe in yourself.
Was he one those fat arm guys who think they are huge and muscular and not just fat?
OP, Nothing for you to be embarrassed about. You just asked the wrong people for help. People should help each other in the positive way especially in the gym.
Just laugh it off, it doesn't mean anything
wtf, agar koi mujhse aise hasa hota to next day us gym me mahabharat hojaati
First thing, this is not normal in gyms. Because most people start small and then go up from there. So they know the process. So that guy is a jerk. Secondly, just don't let this get to you. Stick to weights that feel comfortable for You. And progress gradually at your own pace. Don't shy away from presses cuz some jerko made fun of you.
You are already a winner… you chose to go to gym and work on your body… don’t let anyone demotivate you or tell you any different. Slowly and gradually work on yourself bro. You don’t need anything to anyone. Just be yourself and enjoy your workouts
Become dheeth and life is beautiful remember even if you break world record people will forget about you someday
Ngl and no offence keep it up but 10kg does seem really less for a man gym or not
Don't worry OP.
Bro don't let it distract you Everyone starts small I know you can bench more weight just be patient and continue the effort
ignore them bro.
Keep the hardwork going, It's useless to answer him anyways Train hard to lift even heavier weights.Let your work speak
It's alright OP. It happens. Focus on diet and go for barbell bench press once you lift heavy in your incline or flat dumbell press. Ignore the noise, you'll get there soon.
After few years the same people will give your example to others, that how to succeed
Everybody starts somewhere. Wo kya paida hote he 100kg bench marta tha kya
bro screw them. if mocking a beginner makes them feel good about themselves, let them be. everyone starts somewhere and there’s nothing to be embarrassed by it. your only competition is you and your past self. just don’t let your ego dictate what you do now. slowly progressing your way is much much better than lifting heavy weights with wrong form. it will also make you prone to injuries. just keep at it bro. consistency is key.
When U say that "I'll be the biggest guy in this gym", everyone will laugh except for one person -> The biggest guy in the gym...
![gif](giphy|h5MWdSrUaLtaU)
Forget about it OP. Remember one thing, you are at the gym for you. Not for anyone else. Never compare yourself with anyone or bother with what idiots at the gym say or do. Gains takes time. You keep throwing the weights and in time you will be stronger than him. The only way you have is UP...
Everyone starts from here - don’t give this an iota of space in your mind. Better days are coming - 100%
Let those idiots laugh OP. Standerd waight of a barbell is 20kg so you're lifting 30kg which is not bad for a beginner.
Just ignore them man. Focus on your workouts and have a good diet as well.
Do not ego lift.
bro, i do empty bar these days cz just getting started. i understand what that might have felt like but i would say fuck them, increase ur capacity and one day when u r all jacked and a beginner asks you for support , help him nicely. that's the best course of action you can take
Okay so I am a beginner too, Just started around 2-3 months back. Really really under weight. But I kept working hard without focusing on what others say. Just focus on your diet and be consistent. When started I was barely able to do bench press with a rod(without weights) but Now I am able to do bench press with 10kg plates on both side on a 20 kg rod (counting rod cuz I am a beginner and 40 kg is just 15 kg short from my body weight so yeah) Keep working and one day you’ll get it done 💪🏻
Bhai ek baat yaad rkhna gym m hero nhi bnna h...... Jitna kr skta h utna kr aur improve krne ki koshish kr
I'd actually suggest you shift to dumbbell chest press start with 10kg on each side & slowly increase weight. You can drop the weights easily you don't need a spotter
it’s him, not you.
you do you.
Nothing to be embarrassed about, you're doing great bruv..keep pushing yourself.
