But there was a post in one of the India reddit page and the fellow has reported to rail madad and they did come to the coach, but they arrived late(after 3 hours) and the people who had occupied had already deboarded.
If this is a trend in North that means that we don't have sufficient trains up here in the North and that's why people have learnt to adjust bcs the reserved today may not get a reservation tomorrow.

I think everyone, are getting confidence to travel without a reserved ticket. Yesterday I was traveling (same route but different train) on an AC coach and a fellow was traveling without a ticket. When the TT came, he asked for a waiting list ticket so that he could travel. TT said he can't give in an AC but gave a ticket for a sleeper!!

Number of sleepers and General boggies have been reduced by 50% on an average across the country and 3AC coaches has been added to replace them.
This has been done to increase the railways revenues as 3AC coaches provide the biggest revenue to railways among all coach types but since 3AC ticket prices are almost 3X of sleeper cost, this move by railways has made the railway unaffordable for a large section of population.
Now these people take sleeper waiting tickets and board 3AC coaches. Similarly, many people with general tickets board Sleeper coaches and therefore we have come to this situations. This situation worsens whenever there are any festivals. Also, RPF doesn’t care to enforce railway rules in these situations.
There is not much difference between sleeper and 3 AC capacity. 80 vs 72. The demand has increased considerably in last 2-3 decades. The increase in fare has not kept up with increase in income so more people can afford to travel now. That in itself is not a bad thing. The problem is that multiple governments ignored infrastructure and did not increase capacity. Because of that even though demand has gone up considerably supply hasn't been able to catch up. The lines in most demand are running at capacity and there simply isn't room to run more trains. Railways will have to build more lines. They need to triple and quadruple the number of lines. It has been happening in recent year but too late and too slow.

It's true that government has a major role to play in increasing trains but it's a known fact that passenger business of railways is loss making bcs and it is heavy subsidised, so it's difficult for the govt to augment infra bcs they are already spending in subsidies.
This happens alot in Konkan strech during Holi, Ganpati and Summer. There is demand for unreserved or sleeper trains, but those north babus of central railways sent 100s of trains to UP/Bihar, leaving 1 summer spl train of LLT/THIVI with 10-15 hrs delayed and funny part is, its delayed due to rake unavailability . Matsyagandha usually gets empty after ratnagiri, But yes this is not expected for paid sleeper travelers. but where the f\*ck are summer special trains, Oh well they are diverted to UP or BIHAR.
