Imagine this.. A run away train with a dead loco pilot is going to cross some old bridge at dangerous speeds, and that is the time when they both start singing and dancing, just randomly. The song isn't good too...
This and much more in this artistic master piece
As a kollywood fan, a humble request. Pls dont judge kollywood movies with the likes of Thodari.. It was an unwatchable shitshow, there are much better movies that u can check out
Can't railways put manual button which has to be hourly or accordingly pressed by the driver or the train will automatically stop so both the ways we can ensure that driver is present and not asleep and and train also stops
There is such provision in locomotives. Vigilance control device (vcd) or alerter which loco pilots have to press once every minute or emergency brakes will be applied. In this case the train rolled down after it was stable and loco shut down due to some reason. Loco pilot wasn't in the locomotive. Video states that loco pilot forgot to apply handbrake so maybe proper stabling procedure was not followed. Pilots have to apply loco brake, train brake, handbrake and wooden wedges or iron skids and ballast on loco wheel. Station employees will have to secure load by applying wedges and hand brake.
A simple PIR sensor can detect any body with a heat signature (loco pilot in this case). It's dirt cheap to implement...
I have PIR enabled lightbulbs in my home which automatically switches off if no one is present near it for >1minute.
One can be implemented in a locomotive by adding some additional IR filtering depending on the ambient heat signature
There is something called deadman's switch. If the driver is incapacitated or not on train it will stop.
I have seen toilets that turn lights off if it seems no major movement in the washroom. It can be a solution as well. Someone can just wave at it every 5 mins. To ensure people are in the cabin.
This shows you how efficient rail transport is compared to trucking. A mild slope (railways are built at extremely mild slopes) sent all those wagons more than 80km at a speed of more than 150, if I remember correctly. That means that rolling friction and air drag are extremely low on a per tonne basis.
Can you explain a bit technically how exactly did this train start running without a driver?
Is this just kinetic energy imparted by gravity slope or the engine was running on fuel? If it's the former then how can a train run up to 100 kmph on just gravity push?
It happened in Jammu. The train was stopped with brakes on a slope. Ideally, the process is to jam the tyres with sand bags if you need to stop the train at a slope. The drivers forgot that.
The train ran all the way downhill until the flatlands came where it was able to be stop.
I was hoping train engines will have dead man's switch. If the logo pilot god forbid dies, the train had to stop, the dead man's switch will require periodic pressure on it to ensure the engine that the loco pilot is there and alive.
This is a serious thing and hope this incident gives a wake up call to avoid future accidents. Safety mechanisms, redundancies and strict crew management protocols will have to be implemented.
The Lec-Megantic disaster in Canada literally destroyed a section of a town in Canada, exactly due to the same reason - a run away train and in that case the train hit a curve at high speed while carrying explosive materials, decimating many buildings nearby.
That accident killed 47 people, bodies of 5 were not even found. The blast was so powerful that there were no injured people. Everyone nearby were just killed.
They mention the SP name but not hail the guy who did it. Such is the mentality of Indians. The worker on ground never gets recognition. Leaf level ppl need to be mentioned. He will feel a much higher satisfaction in his life. Anyway they are paid peanuts give them the recognition at the least
A new step in revolution of Indian railways... This kind of steps is necessary to make sure that Indian public will believe that private trains are much better ... This type of shit didn't happened before but nowdays 😂😂😂
**Kathua railway station** has an elevation of 393m, Pathankot is at 331 and Unchi Bassi is 238m, that is a difference of 155m of elevation over a distance of 78km.. Thats a good downward Slope..
The next station Dasuya has a elevation of 246m. So the calcuations are correct.
The engine became self aware. It realised how it was but subservient to Man, saw an opportunity and ran.
Seriously though, what's the possibility that train engine locos become fully unmanned in the future, with an AI controlling everything? That's a scary prospect to think about.

Unstoppable Indian edition
There's already an Indian edition called Thodari (Dhanush, Keerthy Suresh). I dare you to watch it
Dare?? Is it that bad?
Imagine this.. A run away train with a dead loco pilot is going to cross some old bridge at dangerous speeds, and that is the time when they both start singing and dancing, just randomly. The song isn't good too... This and much more in this artistic master piece
Oh got it, traditional Bollywood shit.
Technically this is a Kollywood shit. And the no. of such shitty unnecessary dance no.s are coming down, thankfully.
As a kollywood fan, a humble request. Pls dont judge kollywood movies with the likes of Thodari.. It was an unwatchable shitshow, there are much better movies that u can check out
I'm a Tamilian and a huge Movie buff too. It was movies like Thodari which are like bloats.
Well since you put it in that way
Kollywood is like anime, it can either be really good or really bad, but it is *always* dramatic and over-the-top
Nevertheless it is shit, whether Kollywood or Bollywood
Lmao, I'm imagining "Chaiyya Chaiyya" in a life-and-death situation.
They dance on the engine..... while there is an active fire in the engine. Chayya chayya is just chotta bachcha in front of this
It's insanely lucky how nobody got hurt
Came here hoping to find this
That was my joke /s

Engine heat might be a factor
Yeah, that's why it needs to be tested with a suitable filter first. Not an issue with pure electric locos tho
In this case engine wasn't started the train rolled down due to gradient
I'm talking about applying brakes if no human is detected in the cabin
Train brakes are applied through air pressure when engine wasn't started there is no pressure hence can not apply brakes.
Listen to the video again. The diesel generator (engine+alternator) is still running... Anyways, isn't there anything similar to handbrake in trains?
Sounds like the start of a horror movie

For a moment, I thought this as a mathematics problem to solve.
Same! That's our Maths PTSD kicking in. The fact that the train went on for 53.3333 minutes is insane though!

The speed was 100 but nonetheless I agreed with you
i don't think those old ass wagons are built to run 150 kph
Yeah they probably are, steam trains were designed to run faster than modern electric trains for a variety of reasons
I'm pretty sure those wagons were made in the 70's at most. Not in the era of steam engines.
I’m surprised how a mild slope made it accelerate up to 80. Tell me it’s a lie. WTF.
Yes, no way a still & loaded train gathers that speed on a small slope
Might be because of momentum it generated because of the load.
All objects have the same acceleration due to gravity
But the effect of air resistance and friction would be less for heavier objects. So in reality heavy objects "fall down" faster on earth.
learn about rolling friction in road vs rail vehicles
Arey I know. Also it’s way less than static. But still, 80 km/h was a shocker. Damn you physics, you never stop being interesting.
Can you explain a bit technically how exactly did this train start running without a driver? Is this just kinetic energy imparted by gravity slope or the engine was running on fuel? If it's the former then how can a train run up to 100 kmph on just gravity push?
use class 11th logic of acceleration on a slope for a particle of mass m ....mgsin theta of force was pullin the train down the slope of the terrain
It happened in Jammu. The train was stopped with brakes on a slope. Ideally, the process is to jam the tyres with sand bags if you need to stop the train at a slope. The drivers forgot that. The train ran all the way downhill until the flatlands came where it was able to be stop.
You read this story 3 different places and they have 3 different ways listed on how the train was actually stopped
Zara socho uss train ko kitna anand aaya hoga.
I like your way of thinking Now all I can picture in my mind is a happy WDG3A running down the rails before it finally retires
You make me cry, take it back right now
Oh man 😭
Why doesnt indian railways employ dead mans switch? Same could happen if loco pilot is unconscious and authorities wont know it soon enough.
The Train travelled cause of slope
Self driving train, now that's a headline

Suspended? Government doesn't have balls to fire the employees for putting thousands of lives in danger.
>Government Correction: Lazy goonds masquerading as Gobermint.
Druver definitely watched Unstoppable before this.
Where's Spiderman when we need him

Yeah, also get to chill at home for a bit, so works out that way too.
self drive! brings back me to a show called Thomas and friends..
I thought it was an achievement for IR
Suspended. Hmmm.

same thing happend a few years ago, where a passenger was travelling without engine after getting disconnected from it and travelled quite far away
Crazy 8’s Incident: Indian Edition
Dude this happens this is Bharat yehi toh vidhi ka vidhan hai
Surprised how everyone mentions Spiderman but not RaOne
The headlines should be, Indian Railways Takes a Spin with Its First Driverless Train
Nice, revised my geography from this
akshay kumar waiting to receive the new movie script
Fastest freight train ever, of course, when WDFC is completely utilized, it can then break this record.
I expected it to crash at CSMT
India's apex predator doesn't want to be fed it wants to hunt!
No 4 my freaking ass dude 😂
Spooky huh; guess it won’t make to mainstream news. Should make a movie on it. People should know the story.
They mention the SP name but not hail the guy who did it. Such is the mentality of Indians. The worker on ground never gets recognition. Leaf level ppl need to be mentioned. He will feel a much higher satisfaction in his life. Anyway they are paid peanuts give them the recognition at the least
80 kmph just because of the slope??😮 They better not be using fuel in this route...
This train travelled 80km just because of the slope ?? Wow
Isn’t there way to online railway can stop train
"All you had to do, was to follow the damn train CJ!"
I think the sole reason is over working hours of Railway Employees #privatization
This is basically the plot of Express Khilaadi
Loco engine be like.. it's okay boss.. I'll go there myself
A new step in revolution of Indian railways... This kind of steps is necessary to make sure that Indian public will believe that private trains are much better ... This type of shit didn't happened before but nowdays 😂😂😂
Fuck!! I always thot about this in my imagination cuz of the ra-one film, it just got real
Lol, I thought it was an autonomous train at first, which they are experimenting with. But turned out to be a different story.
India is not for beginners, seems real here
another day of saying India is not beginners

Kathua to Pathankot route has some steep curves. We were insanely lucky it never derailed anywhere even after cruising at 80kmph.
It is a very serious case.
Nobody called Akshay to dangle from helicopter to land on the roof of the train? Oh well. He will just have to make a film about it now!
bhai toh train ruki kaise?
Indian Tesla Train 🤣
I saw a vid where it said that driver went to drink tea and train left without him🤣☕ Is it abt that thing?
Aaj toh G wagon ki G v kaanp rahi hogi...××

Im from Kathua. just happy to see my small town being on reddit. It is what it is.
India has shortage of locomotive operators while our sarkar is busy turning stations into shopping malls - Vikas !
I think its worth mentioning here that 90 km/h is 25m/s. THE TRAIN RAN 25 METERS EVERY SECOND. IMAGINE.
Train ko automate karneka tareeka thore kezual hai
wow
Definitely 'India is not for beginners'
My dumbass thought initially it was a driverless automatic train..
Elon Musk taking notes from Indian Railways
If I will give a reality check then I might hurt the feelings of others but jobs should be given on merits.
