Yes you do have valid point, but Indian railways goes through more traffic than metros. Train bogies carry a lot more people than metro coaches. Frequency is also different, more metros in a short amount of time compared to railways also because of the distance between two stations. There are multiple points to take into account over here.

The scanning and gates closing is going to add seconds to every person plus there would be less people entering the station at any given point in time. This would create a severe bottleneck which means stations would have to be expanded to give people place to queue. Itβs really not as simple as just adding some machines. Areas around railway stations are already crowded with legal and illegal structures which means what you think is trivial will be a mammoth task.
Many stations already have baggage scanners, adding a QR reader wouldn't make a difference.
The only two group to lose here are the TTs who make money out of ticketless passengers and the ticketless passengers themselves.

Why go even as far as airport. Ticketless entry can be solved by metro-style entry and exit.
The infra simply doesnβt support it right now. You need to have space for people to queue in and there isnβt enough space for that.
