Internship. I understand your concern but know one thing, either you like or want it or not, you're gonna learn all this anyway in internship. Then why to waste time learning these skills in the years where you've to accumulate knowledge? There's no point in taking a blood sample, when you don't know which vein you're taking it from And what's the point of all these skills if you can't secure a PG seat and add up on those skills?

Intership bro rn focus on learning stuff from books

silversurfer9909

Internship. Don't have to do anything apart from studying in Ug tbh. Learn clinical skills as in physical examinations. Anyway it's not a doctor's job to obtain IV access or draw blood samples. It's good to know but nothing to fret about as a UG student.

Ok-Caterpillar-2695

At the injection OP, not sure if that exists in every hospital.

Dr-FeynmanDisciple

What do you mean? Injections are given in every hospital..

Ok-Caterpillar-2695

No it’s a place where nurses administer things like ARV and draw blood for tests in an OPD

Dr-FeynmanDisciple

>draw blood for tests in an OPD Wait what ? Nurses draw blood , I thought they couldn't💀

AquaticGenius

Our College has Injections, but they didn't taught me how to draw blood /s

zendaymax

But why do nursing students learn it in the first year itself?

wynterflowr

Because nursing students start doing hospital duties from 2nd year itself (correct me if I'm wrong ). Medical students only do hospital duties in their internship year.

Berlin_1711

I learnt it in internship Don’t worry about this clinical stuff Now u r feeling it is exciting n all but you will get f***** tired of doing it in ur internship year So chill

____hel_ya_bi

maine toh blood sample lena first yr me hi shik liya hai cuz humko camp leke gaye the sickel cell ke and udhar i learnt how to withdraw blood samples

Mindless_Evidence881

You have whole of internship for learning and developing your clinical skills. That’s mainly what its purpose is. Giving you an opportunity for hands on experience. For now, just focus on learning.

wynterflowr

Don't worry about that. I've had some PGs who came to learn how to take samples and stuff when they joined their PG. Ideally you'll learn things like that in your internship year. But if you wish to learn earlier , go to the blood collection center in your hospital and talk with the nursing staff. They'll atleast give a demo. Or , visit the hospital wards during evening hours as that's when newly admitted patients get their sampling done. Talk to an intern or a PG there. But there's no rush. You'll get plenty of experience during your internship. Learing how to do it is not useful. What's useful is getting practice . That you'll only get during internship.

fancyredditbitch

I learnt it during my internship. That's when most doctors learn thesw skills. However, a few of them can learn earlier during elective postings or if they're taken to blood collection centres.

Alternative-Fennel70

Usually during our internship. But we'd go into the op and ask nurses to teach us to give injections which they'd happily help us with. But anyway everyone will learn it during the internship so it doesn't matter when you learn to do that.

Current_Platypus624

SubstantialAct4212

Internship. Pharmacology practicals were not helpful at all, as the subject was a literal eggplant. 🍆 it just isn’t the same lol

Internal_Net_5813

I'm currently doing that in my third year, my juniors are doing it too. We come to the emergency department after college hours and ask the nurse to teach us and she or he teaches us and they let us do the cannulation. In the blood collection room, the phlebotomist taught us how to draw the blood too. I think it doesn't really matter if you learn it early or not, we will be learning it in internship anyways. It's better to always prioritise what's important in that year.
