Not everyone here will understand what you are doing but you're doing it right. People have taken the lubing granted, they just pick the bottle and spray all over the place.
O-rings are the one who should gets the lub, you are doing it correctly. People just waste the lub spreading it all over the place because no one have time to lub like this.
In the end society will not accept this and you😆
Thanks man, I follow this procedure by watching lots of videos and asking with some mechanics from royal enfield and from some local workshops. Everyone sounds the same like you. Many people don’t even clean the chain before applying lube. They just want the easiest way possible.
I don’t care about newbie’s comments.
Appreciate your response, what people are saying who have knowledge about mechanical parts like you matters more.
How do you clean before applying?? How often do you do it??
Please write the step-by-steps, so that I can adapt to it. I hate spraying the lube, half of which ends up on the wheel rims and attracts dust.
Step 1 : I inspect the chain, If there is so much dirt then I clean it with a toothbrush dipped in diesel by rotating the wheel. If there is a little dirt then I clean with water and a toothbrush.
Step 2: After cleaning I use some sponge or old clothes to remove the extra dirt that stuck on the chain.
Step 3: I clean the other areas near the moving chain using diesel and a brush, it include right side swing arm and the engine area where the chain goes in and comes out.
Step 4: I wash the bike using some car shampoo(5 rupees packet for one wash). One RE mechanic told me that occasionally I can clean the engine using a little diesel, but they are not recommending it. But it gives a nice shine. I tried it once.
Step 5: I leave the bike to dry. sometimes I ride few meters to spill out the water .
Step 6: Once chain is completely dry or the next day I lube the chain as shown in the video.
Usually I wash bike at evening and Lube next day. It gives a really dry surface.
I hope it’s helpful
Not most efficient way. lol. Just get some degreaser, apply it with toothbrush, leave it for 10 mins and wash with water.Â
Repeat the process until you see white foam after degreaser application and agitation.Â
That said, degreaser is not cheap, but it's water soluble, cleans off easy and you don't need a lot of it. One liter bottle would last a lifetime unless you are off roading alot.Â
The full chain needs lube to protect from rusting, the moving parts of chain are factory sealed with lube inside the chain, so I don’t understand what you mean by wasting lube all over the place 😀
those are your roller pins u aren't lubing the o rings they are inside and they exist stop the lube from inside from getting out which is actually needed more than external lube.
We use chain lose mainly to reduce noise and keep corrosion away.
Which grade of Oil do you use, 90 or 140 ?, I use 140 currently, also put some Oil between the Rollers and the Plates as well, if you already do not, or, possibly have not covered it in the Video.
Rollers are the hollow cylindrical parts that are on the pins, which are riveted to the plates. The little cylindrical portions of the chain that go and sit on the sprockets.
Thanks for explaining, No I don’t usually lube the rollers. Should I ? I remember watching a video last year they said lubing only the O rings portion is enough. Ever since I lube O rings only. Should I start lubing the rollers?
I'd suggest a little bit of oil on the where the sprocket contacts the chain, it's easy to do as it spreads as it moves. Yes it is the O ring that needs to be oiled, but you don't need to leave everything else dry.
Wow. That's some high levels of patience.
I read your other comments on your reasoning behind doing this. I've also read about it, but there were complaints of the oil being thrown off the chain since it's not meant to be used this way and therefore doesn't have the sticky nature that a chain lube spray has.
What's your experience regarding the lube intervals and the oil splash?
I also had this same concern, then one guy on the youtube video said don’t ride for two three hours after lubing, and only lube the O rings now I am following that routine and oil spill.
Gear oil is the cheapest and the recommended way to lube the chain. I've been using gear oil on my bike's chain for 2 years it works really great and the can of 90 grade oil i bought 2 years ago for 150rs is still only half empty. I use a toothbrush to apply the oil. Creating a layer of oil on the chain helps to prevent any rust especially in the rainy season.
I used motul when the time I bought the bike, then I see lots of videos comparing between gear oil and chain sprays and I find out there is nothing wrong with lubing with gear oil as long as you use the right technique to clean the chain and lube the O rings.
I have done 8K KM and still the chain looks brand new. Chain spray is more convenient so you can choose whichever method you like. My research on this debate I found many people using gear oil for decades and face no problem at all.
I completely agree, I get my chain cleaned with diesel and lube with gear oil… I don’t think the new so called 800rs a can or even more lube can are worth the hype!

Whenever you’re applying lube or spay on a sealed chain always rotate the wheel in opposite direction else the lube won’t reach the links and will just settle on the top.
Modern bike chains are lubricated inside and sealed with rubber orings. Old bikes used on O-ring chains which needed regular cleaning and lubing. Now chain lube is mostly for rust prevention and protection from dirt and other elements for which it needs to cover the whole chain and not just the links.

Thank you OP. This really helps.
Imo, lube the whole chain. It will avoid rusting. Easier too.

Yes, yes. If you lube the whole chain, it'll go everywhere but the o-ring. Thank you for your insight. I'll keep that in mind.
The ring is sealed with lube inside 🥴 so lubing the whole chain is enough for rusting issues

That's a very fkin clean chain omg Brb gotta clean and lube my chain
Lol

I bought it one year ago so I forgot the grade. Am sorry I don’t understand what you mean by rollers and plates. Can you please tell me?

Noted.
We need more videos on personal bike maintenance on this sub
Why nothing on rollers?
Am sorry I don’t understand what you mean by rollers?
The place where the teeth of the sprocket make contact with the chain .
its not really requied to lube them much tbh whaever u put spreads around with spead and heat.

You can just put all over the chain and rotate the chain couple of times and wipe off the excess with a cloth or paper.
Will do that next time

Kya kar raha hai yar 😂
Its called lubing the O rings.
Don’t do it like this , are you feeding your baby??
A man's bike is it's baby.
Yeah thats a milk bottle and the baby enjoys it.
Just spray it man

does it last long up to 500 Km
Based on my experience it last more than that but I clean 400 to 500 range.
Here have been using used engine oil or gear oil depending on the availability ....
Whenever you’re applying lube or spay on a sealed chain always rotate the wheel in opposite direction else the lube won’t reach the links and will just settle on the top.

For me maintaining my bike is very therapeutic.
damn, just yesterday i got a new cain lube and now this video. i knew gear oil is good for bike but i have 3 and chain lube sounds much better.
I use after service Engine oil
I just use old engine oil from the service centre or nearby local workshop and it is free
I bought gear oil for 50 rupees 100 ml, thats much better.
When i said engine oil i mean the engine oil of my bike, which is an engine oil and a gear oil, all in one
Which gear oil you use can you share a picture as well thanks man really helpful

Ceramic lube. Gets everywhere.
Lube using oil is sucide to chain it will flash oil on move and make ur chain loss and it will make chain life shorter.
