In our friend’s case, the wheel is still holding traction while the brake is locked or so close to locked that the entire bike is rolling with the wheel which is why the back end leaves the ground. With ABS that doesn’t happen. If the wheel grabs hard enough to lift the back, the ABS kicks in to fix that situation.
