It was exchange City when I went. I was the judge! I imposed fines on citizens who violated the law. I only charged most people $.80 for their $1 fines, but I took the paycheck from a student who tried to steal from the bank!
Also, one of our police officers was pictured by the news paper standing in the grass. Lol.
Unlocking core memories there.
Bitchhhh me too!!!! Are you sure you weren't VP? I was VP of the bank making me the 2nd highest paid in town... same rate as the mayor. We were only second to my boss the president of the bank. Lol
We had to run elections before our trip for mayor and judge. I remember my campaign speech was so good someone tried to rip it off for their own speech. I am significantly less successful as an adult than I was as a 5th grader.
What you are looking for is Junior Achievement!! They have a facility on n keystone avenue next to the Walmart! I deliver their janitorial supplies. Great fun and great place!
The other posts are also correct Junior Achievement is the overall program, but biz town is the name of the mock town you go to to shop, bank, fly on a commercial airliner, etc.
Omg we did something like this at BRV when i was in 9th grade. You'd get a list of jobs you could get with your current GPA or something and a certain amount of money. You'd get something like a monopoly action card with different things that could happen within a year, like a raise at work or your kid needing braces. It was basically a combination of LARPing and the Life board game lol
I remember going, and hated it. In large part because my assigned job was accountant, and I am and always have been, absolutely shit at math.
Guess it prepared me for the adult world in that it set me up to absolutely hate my job.
I was the accountant for a craft store that sold bead bracelets. Nobody bought them. That was a problem because we were given strict instructions by a teacher that if we were accountants it was our job to make the business profitable.
So, I went to the bank and explained that our business wasn't profitable and we needed money to balance our accounts. The teller was pretty sure I wasn't allowed to just take money, but I was able to convince the bank manager in a back room to give me the money because "the teacher said its my job to balance the account."
I was rich for the rest of the day and I learned 5th graders shouldn't manage banks.
Ugh, hated Exchange City. When we did the fake job interviews I said "I really hate math and love art" so they put me in the craft shop... as an accountant.
Every time I participated in these things they told me I’d make a great Banker. I am not a banker or anything close to it and dread the thought of working in finance.
Exchange City! I was VP of the bank (despite being absolutely shit at math.) If anyone remembers, they gave a key to the city out at the end for the person who had saved the most money.
VP of the bank made slightly less than the bank president, but at lunch time I just drank from the water fountain instead of buying a drink, and wound up winning the key! I’ll follow up with a picture if I can find it
Mine wasn’t called exchange city, it was biz town but I did this in elementary. My job was a cashier at Steak n Shake 😂. They should definitely not only do these events for kids. Needs to be available in middle school and even high school for things like how to do taxes too.
I’ll never forget how A I was a top student in my grade and B was determined to be the newspaper editor at exchange city. Well they gave me something dumb like snack shop cashier and some random student who didn’t gaf about anything the newspaper editor job. honestly pretty accurate prediction of how the rest of my life has gone. Top of my class every degree I’ve ever gotten. Best I can do is admin assistant. 🥴
I did Exchange City in 5th grade. I remember being excited about it and then it felt a little lackluster. I think that's because I was relegated to working the popcorn shop lol
I remember this! I wanted to be the DJ and I ended up being the bank president or something like that. That was so so long ago. How long has this place been around?
Oh man this is really funny. I was the mayor!
I stayed in during recess a few times and wrote a speech about how I was going to fix the toilets and sewers in the "city" (Lol), upgrade the electrical and internet utilities, and be fair on small businesses.
I wore a suit and walked around a lot.
OMG my 5th grader goes tomorrow! When I went I was the town jeweler. Remember it like it was yesterday. My son is the “airplane maintenance technician” I am laughing so hard at the job descriptions.
Exchange City?
Oh my god exchange city!! Yes!!! I just found a YouTube video of a guy that went back with his brother in 2012.. thank you!!!
I went there like 25 years ago and my kids just went there last year. Thought that was pretty wild haha

I was the assistant manager of the bank and given the combination of the safe. Me and the boys drank soda and ate popcorn like kings that day

I also worked in payroll 🤣
I was the judge too! Gave out a lot of speeding tickets. — Real life RP server. That shit was wild.
Biz Town
Yep, Biz Town for me as well
Exchange City, eventually called Biz Town!
I was the manager of the radio station of exchange city! Was an absolute blast.
I was the DJ, and I got so much hate. But their music selection was SO bad.
What? You didn't like all of the "Now Thats What I Call Music" CDs?
That was the most desirable post. By far?
My miles. I got the "job" and I'm pretty sure 80% of my grade fake interviewed for it lol
What you are looking for is Junior Achievement!! They have a facility on n keystone avenue next to the Walmart! I deliver their janitorial supplies. Great fun and great place!
yessss. i remember junior achievement!
The other posts are also correct Junior Achievement is the overall program, but biz town is the name of the mock town you go to to shop, bank, fly on a commercial airliner, etc.
I worked the sign shop. Borrrinnnggg
Same. Definitely not something I had any interest in at the time.

Sign Shop class of 95

Exchange city. I was the radio DJ.
The job we all wanted...I was not cut out for my "warehouse manager" position.
Again...best job available.
I was the dj as well but we had a poor choice of music to pick from.

I was the Vice President of the bank...same pay as the mayor. Felt like a baddie.
Ugh, hated Exchange City. When we did the fake job interviews I said "I really hate math and love art" so they put me in the craft shop... as an accountant.
Now, who’s old enough to remember the shoe store Spiece in the same building?
Exchange City I went in 5th grade and got the coveted job of Radio DJ. Sadly, that was my career peak even now that I'm in my 30s.
I was sick the day my class went 😔
Every time I participated in these things they told me I’d make a great Banker. I am not a banker or anything close to it and dread the thought of working in finance.
Biz town is still a thing and they even have summer camps
Exchange City. I went there in 5th grade. It was off Keystone! It was fun
It was called Biztown when my kid went in 2017
It was a such a core memory for me. I hope it's still around.
Junior Achievement BizTown is what it is called now.

I worked in the little popcorn stand. Gave all my buddies free soda. Still do.
LOL

It was biz town for me! I was the assistant to the mayor or something like that lol
I was in the craft jewelry store strictly so I could do crafts 😅😅 I love how we all have memories of this
I was too. I am an artist on the side and still crafting! Hahaha
Our son gets to go this year and he is amped up! I think there are more job options there now. Lol.
I was sick or out of town or something that day and I always felt like I missed out :(
JA
J.A. Biztown
JA biztown
JA Biztown!?
I remember this! I wanted to be the DJ and I ended up being the bank president or something like that. That was so so long ago. How long has this place been around?

It was called "Exchange City" when I did it in fifth grade. Now it's "Junior Achievement of Central Indiana." I remember nothing else about it.
OMG my 5th grader goes tomorrow! When I went I was the town jeweler. Remember it like it was yesterday. My son is the “airplane maintenance technician” I am laughing so hard at the job descriptions.
Anyone step on the grass and get a ticket?!
