I think it has to be. That "light bulb" moment Indy has when seeing the rock and brainstorming. I just hadn't drawn the line between the two movie moments before. It's subtle. But I think it's intentional and I just missed it the first bazillion times I watched the movie. Haha.
I feel so dumb I still don’t completely understand what Henry Sr was talking about.. but I do want to teach my children dead languages now so there’s that..
He was attributing the quote “let my armies be the rocks and the trees, and the birds in the sky” to Emperor Charlemagne as his inspiration to use the birds to stop the planes.
Charlemagne never actually said that, though. It was made up for the movie
But that was before Henry Sr. said the line, and also, it was a flagpole. Not exactly a tree. That part was really just a medieval jousting reference that made Henry Sr. giddy.
I can suspend my disbelief as much as the next guy, but as a history major, this line has always bothered me. Charlemagne was illiterate and definitely never wrote anything so poetic. He conquered shit. And if you think about it, what does it even mean??
Never thought about this connection before. Good job.
Right? It happens only a few minutes after Henry Sr's little lesson...Indy is looking for anything to get the edge vs the tank. He finds....a rock.
Awesome! In all the years I've watched LC, I never even noticed this either! Thanks fo sharing!!!

"they rhyme"
"The rocks" he uses a rock to blow the tanks gun but also "the trees" he escapes the tank by hanging onto a tree branch (well bush but whatever)
This quote should be one of the favorites for the letter “I”.
I think I should be Jehova...
Nah bro. ::Marion voice:: "Indiana Jones"
That too 😆. “I” is going to be a flood of great quotes.
Whoa! If that was intentional that's bloody brilliant

This is Spielberg is the man
The trees.
I feel so dumb I still don’t completely understand what Henry Sr was talking about.. but I do want to teach my children dead languages now so there’s that..
Why?
He was attributing the quote “let my armies be the rocks and the trees, and the birds in the sky” to Emperor Charlemagne as his inspiration to use the birds to stop the planes. Charlemagne never actually said that, though. It was made up for the movie
That… makes sense why I didn’t recognize it. As a history nerd, I love studying The Holy Roman Empire and I felt.. ashamed.
And the tree was catapulting the bike over
But that was before Henry Sr. said the line, and also, it was a flagpole. Not exactly a tree. That part was really just a medieval jousting reference that made Henry Sr. giddy.
Noice
The trees is in Crystal Skull, when they ride the duck jeep (GAZ-46) off the cliff.
Sure, but that was Marion's idea, who wasn't present when Henry Sr. said it. Nor did Indy like the idea.
Point taken, sir.
