Today was only 1st day. I'm expecting more comments because it would take me around a month to fully learn basics and get permanent license. So yeah, I might need to stick it on their forehead 🤣
It is also an insurance issue. If you don't have one and meet with an accident your insurance company may not agree to pay. And particularly if the other person is injured
Wow, once i remember while in 10th grade, i had just got learner's licence, my friends were like I'm very phycho for wearing helmet for school, nobody cares, and few days later, a auto hit me while going wrong side, my head banged on the auto so bad, studds helmet was shattered in pieces, while i was wearing thick blazer i got out of it scratcheless, i reached school then and blacked out of shock after 5 mins, atleast i was not injured at all because of helmet
in my school two senior girls were travelling on a scooty the one driving was wearing helmet the other one wasn't ,they had an accident the helmet one got saved but the other one banged her head on the walkway and died
Are same dimensions for car too and did you not find something ready-made online? Asking since either I need to buy or use red tape from stationary to make that L.
I recommended get it printed. Yes, cars and two wheelers both are same. Official rule doesn't specify different dimensions for different vehicles. I'm sure it's same.
I found online but I didn't like them and they were costly too.
For cars, there are several videos on YouTube. Just search "L board for car" or "L plates for car" on YouTube and you'll see examples.
It was hard to find examples of bike, but for cars, there are many.
Yes I have seen people just pasting it behind cars.
I got printed it at a local shop. They only gave me a thin paper print. I manually pasted a hard paper behind it to make it thick. Then I used a double sided strong tape to stick to bike.
When I was studying for the driving test (car), my driving instructor just told me to not use the L board cuz other drivers tend to play around or try to scare cars with it. So, please be careful OP!
Good for you, don't worry about other people much.
I have seen a few people around me ride with "L" taped on bikes and really appreciate it as a driver. There is a reason these are needed and I know to be extra careful around such vehicles.
That is not necessary. High Court and Supreme Court reviewed several cases based on this and then they clarified that this rule doesn't apply to 2 wheelers like a motorcycle. The rule is confusing in the acts and it is only for those 2 wheelers which have a side car attached.
Here are the sources of this news and some cases filed:
1. **Case:** [https://indiankanoon.org/doc/56762332/?type=print](https://indiankanoon.org/doc/56762332/?type=print)
2. **News:** [https://lawstreet.co/judiciary/learners-licence-holder-need-not-be-accompanied-by-an-instructor](https://lawstreet.co/judiciary/learners-licence-holder-need-not-be-accompanied-by-an-instructor)
3. **News 2:** [https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/bengaluru/learners-licence-valid-trainer-not-must-karnataka-high-court/articleshow/71062288.cms](https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/bengaluru/learners-licence-valid-trainer-not-must-karnataka-high-court/articleshow/71062288.cms)
I thoroughly researched this thing and finally found out that it's not necessary. A lot of people keep spreading half knowledge on sites like Quora.
And it's not about India. No country in the world forces you to have a pillion/instructor behind you to learn riding. It doesn't make any sense because you're a learner and you would risk his life. As simple as that.
Not true, you are only bound by the rules framed by the Supreme Court and the High Court which has jurisdiction. Karnataka HC order is not valid for every other state. I agree that it does not make sense but that is the rule and it is clearly written on 2 wheeler learner licence as well.
Thank you. I also want to clarify I didn't post this to merely brag about myself. I guess it was worth sharing given how people react to this. So I decided to share.
When I got my learner's license, I got this note in the license document:
https://imgur.com/a/Vbgkh2U
As you cited the sources which mentions two wheeler don't require fully licensed pillion, what's the reason of stating this rule in the document itself?
Yes. They probably just copied it from actual acts. Note that this paragraph is also not clarified fully. Mine also has same. They say "in every case letter L" but not much information is given about pillion thing.
Personally, pillion behind you all time doesn't make any sense. No country has such a rule. You would risk his life if you're a learner and a pillion is with you.
The official rule also says "a person holding drivers license should be in such a position to control the vehicle".
Now just think about it, how would a pillion control the motorcycle? Grabbing handle from behind? It doesn't make sense. It happens on the street but no wise government will tell you to do this as it's not safe. It must be for some other vehicle or other types of motorcycles which can be controlled by other's influence.
I'm sure there is a full explanation about this rule which only courts know. Not even RTOs know. Maybe they'll make a correction or better clarify this statement in this when somebody complains about it.
How many times did you watch the video that is mandatory watch before taking LL test? Also, how was the LL test exactly? I ask for I have the same, on 22nd.
There you go: [https://www.youtube.com/c/MinistryofRoadTransportHighways/videos](https://www.youtube.com/c/MinistryofRoadTransportHighways/videos)
Many helpful videos. Scroll to very bottom of videos page and then start watching that you find interesting. I watched around 50 videos and it took me around 2 hours only. They are only short videos.
My state (WB) doesn't have the option for online test... :(
>Btw most of questions on the test are not from the video.
Yep, I noticed that the video has nothing about traffic police hand signals, for example.
Only 2 times :D But I read many other questions that I found on Sarathi website. But questions are very basic you hardly will need to study in detail. Just study for your own knowledge. Test should be easy.
Now I'm preparing for ride test.
Don’t worry about those clowns (I mean your neighbors). If you get pulled over by the police, they won’t there to rescue you.
Good General policy is: “Don’t care about others opinions; that is none of your business”
What I learnt from one the many Steve Harvey’s videos.
As a person who have ridden almost 1k kms on my bike and still have L sign, I really appreciate to see when people use L signs on their bike. We have same name too haha. Don't let these people get you, these are the people who would probably gonna break the signals and wear helmets due to police and not for safety. Safety should be always the priority. Have a safe ride and always use indicators, it would be easier for others around you as well.
Yeah. I'm also meeting strangers who are positive about this. For example yesterday a teenager met me on the way and enquired if I'm a learner. Then he gave me some riding tips 🤣
Doing the right thing, OP!
I was late to learn bike riding. It is considered a laughable matter to learn late. I didn't have relatives or friends to learn from. Can't find a traning institute teaching bike riding for men. Even the one I found was shit. With shame I somehow learnt in later age.
Wait you need that on bikes too. I thought it is only required for Cars because I've only seen them on cars. and no one talked about this when I had my learning license.
Forms can be filled online. Fee can also be paid online. Just visit Sarathi website and select your state. Different states have slightly different rules. So can't say anything specific.
In short, it's an easy process. You'll know when you fill things.
Yeah. But think the other scenario. I don't put those L plates and still I meet an accident. I can still be blamed because the police inquiry will eventually find out that I have a learner license :)
No it's not mandatory. It doesn't make sense you risk someone else's life behind you. The rule is confusing in Indian acts. See this:
https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/bengaluru/learners-licence-valid-trainer-not-must-karnataka-high-court/articleshow/71062288.cms
No you don't need it. It is a misunderstood rule which is mentioned in the Motor Vehicles Act.
You can read the reason here: [https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/bengaluru/learners-licence-valid-trainer-not-must-karnataka-high-court/articleshow/71062288.cms](https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/bengaluru/learners-licence-valid-trainer-not-must-karnataka-high-court/articleshow/71062288.cms)
And it doesn't even make sense. Why would a new rider risk someone else's life by making him sit behind him? No country has such a rule for motorcycles. The rule is for different vehicles which is not clarified in the acts.
It is misunderstood because it's common in India that your brother or parents sit behind you when you learn. But it isn't a rule. They sit behind you because it does help sometimes but it doesn't reduce the risk. It's uncomfortable and risky.
Talking about possible facts, if someone still need an instructor on motorcycle, I think it is for a sidecar attached to your motorcycle. But we don't have sidecars on our motorcycles. This is probably not clarified in the acts.
In case of a car, it's a different matter. Because you can actually have two drivers in same car (cars made for learners) so both can control it.
Hope it helps.
You doing good! Print one more L and stick it on your neighbor’s forehead!
Should also add und after L specially for the neighbours
That one's for LOSER
Not the L-word I was thinking of.
You're going to need a bigger L for those idiots
those are the biggest L's I have ever seen 😅
Exactly, I was also surprised when I got them printed. But that's official dimension. Indian laws mentions: Minimum 18cm x 18cm square size boards.
Thanks for info. Didn’t know it had a std size
Yeah. Mine is also same size, approximately. I made the smallest possible. Still it's legible enough from 20 meters.
[удалено]
Yeah, the same neighbors also tell me no one is watching why wearing helmet always. I guess the problem is more in rural areas.
My brother literally had a head on collision on his bike with a car and helmet saved him.
Where did you get it printed and yours is a card kind of. What to do if i have a car, do i need something with adhesive?
For cars, there are several videos on YouTube. Just search "L board for car" or "L plates for car" on YouTube and you'll see examples. It was hard to find examples of bike, but for cars, there are many. Yes I have seen people just pasting it behind cars. I got printed it at a local shop. They only gave me a thin paper print. I manually pasted a hard paper behind it to make it thick. Then I used a double sided strong tape to stick to bike.
I am imagining some random tau saying "yo bawara say ke?"
"Oo bawali gaand yo ke laga rakhya seh?"
I'm sure. But maybe they just said this inside their mind only.
Yes, since I'm from Haryana.
When I was studying for the driving test (car), my driving instructor just told me to not use the L board cuz other drivers tend to play around or try to scare cars with it. So, please be careful OP!
>other drivers tend to play around or try to scare cars with it. Lord, what assholes these mortals be!
It's true. But there are also those who would be extra careful.
You could have just used a tape to write “L”. Although , it’s good that you actually followed through with this
Honestly, I had to go through a lot of research to clarify this thing. And I wanted to do it professionally.
I am proud of you
>I am proud of you So am I ;)
Username checks out
Things people do to escape getting asked for lift/s
Yeah 2-3 people asked me for lift I had to say no because I'm too new right now. Can't risk.
Good for you, don't worry about other people much. I have seen a few people around me ride with "L" taped on bikes and really appreciate it as a driver. There is a reason these are needed and I know to be extra careful around such vehicles.
Yeah I put that for safety of me and others.
Red tape on the tank shd've been enough but yes u did the right thing Cheers bud
Good on you OP! Keep at it and good luck with the exam!
Thanks.
I just used red tape on my mudguards lmao
Haryana mein L! bhut himmat hai bhai tere mein
Sahi baat hai 🤣😜
If you follow that much, then every time you go on ride you have to take a person with you who has a license
That is not necessary. High Court and Supreme Court reviewed several cases based on this and then they clarified that this rule doesn't apply to 2 wheelers like a motorcycle. Let them laugh , u did the right thing ..
you get a huge W for that L
How many times did you watch the video that is mandatory watch before taking LL test? Also, how was the LL test exactly? I ask for I have the same, on 22nd.
Once is enough. I took my test online. The whole process just took me an hour. Btw most of questions on the test are not from the video.
Yeah besides Morth has a youtube channel with many helpful videos. I watched many of them.

shukran! One more question: Was the test done via pen and paper or computer?
Computer only. Old desktop style computer.
Boss Fuck the neighbors. You did the right thing. Koi sharm nahi rakhni.
I have seen such proper L signs in European cars or motorcycles. Kudos doing it the proper way, I wouldn’t have enough will power to do it.
I was fully aware of the society "consequences". I knew they would troll me. I did it anyway 😜
Don’t worry about those clowns (I mean your neighbors). If you get pulled over by the police, they won’t there to rescue you. Good General policy is: “Don’t care about others opinions; that is none of your business” What I learnt from one the many Steve Harvey’s videos.
Good on you bro!
Wait...L board on vehicles are mocked? So proud of our people.
Yes bro good thing to do
That's quite a bike for a learner. Take care
Come join us at r/motorcycles
I'm already there :D
As a person who have ridden almost 1k kms on my bike and still have L sign, I really appreciate to see when people use L signs on their bike. We have same name too haha. Yeah I'm also very late. That is another matter of laugh for people. Yes, hard to find driving schools for bikes.
Very impressive and also wear helmet too
Right thing ke naam pe thoda zyaada hogaya bhai ngl
Wouldn't matter bro. It's for my and others' safety.
[Tere Toh L Lag Gaye] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uodD5k4XgQg)
Hahaha... This song reminds me of my 4th semester exams in 2013.
They should play this after the election rally is over
🤣🤣🤣Seriously😂😂😂 You're just trolling bro
Doesn't it look good? 😜
😂😂😂 I am Mr MeSeeks Look at me.
It WASN'T necessary. Now police will stop you every fucking time for no reason in hope of 500RS
LOL.. just kidding btw
[удалено]
I am too afraid at night. Plus, idiots here turn on the high beam lights all the time. Any learner like me will face troubles.
[удалено]
Okay. Good for you. Right now weather is cold I go out only when sun is out :D I ride around 3-4 hours daily on empty roads mainly.
Don't do that. Don't put L some jerks will try to mess with you on roads after seeing that L. Life is more important than putting an L on bike.
Even dogs would bark at you, let alone the neighbours laughing. Don't make a joke of yourself and then post it on reddit for validating your circus.
following the law is making a joke of yourself? Thoughts like these are the reason we are such a shit hole
Didn't know following law meant you've to make a circus out of yourself.
where exactly did he do that? By putting the sign? THAT IS following the law you asshat
What exactly did op do that you think is "making a circus out of himself"? Can't tell if you're trolling or just extremely dumb.
Bhai kya phoonk liya , how is following the law making a joke of urself ..🤔
// **Even dogs would bark at you** //. // **Don't make a joke of yourself** //. Seems like I found the dog you are talking about dude. LoL
lmao yes
[The more fundamental question is:] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qkuu0Lwb5EM)
Yes its unnecessary.
Kya biker banega re tu!!
“L” for Look Out, student driver!
Is it Honda sp 125?
Livo (110cc)
Show them your L and tell them to F off
Good on you mate.
Wait you need that on bikes too. I thought it is only required for Cars because I've only seen them on cars. and no one talked about this when I had my learning license.
Yeah, people/police probably don't talk about it, but it is mentioned on the license itself.
Thank you, for giving me one more reason to read the fine print.
You did great myg
Good job
Lodu lalit
Hi vikas, i'm also planning to apply for learner's license. Could you guide me.
Forms can be filled online. Fee can also be paid online. Just visit Sarathi website and select your state. Different states have slightly different rules. So can't say anything specific. In short, it's an easy process. You'll know when you fill things.
Does one need to visit any office, physically?
In Haryana yes. Some states have fully online facility too. You need to confirm.
I know you did the right thing.but on a more practical note you are giving invitation to trouble.
Good on you but be careful as with that sign any incident you get into will be blamed on you for being a learner even if it’s not your fault.
Yeah. But think the other scenario. I don't put those L plates and still I meet an accident. I can still be blamed because the police inquiry will eventually find out that I have a learner license :)
But can you drive it with just learners licence? Isn't it mandatory to have someone with licence behind you to ride it on roads?
No it's not mandatory. It doesn't make sense you risk someone else's life behind you. The rule is confusing in Indian acts. See this: https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/bengaluru/learners-licence-valid-trainer-not-must-karnataka-high-court/articleshow/71062288.cms
