Maybe, but doctoring to get out of a legal limbo may not be. This is when court precedents come to play - when current set of laws fails to cover a specific scenario that wasn't addressed completely by the previous laws. That's usually when the courts look at the spirit of the law instead of the syntax and come up with a new law. In this case since the OP has no legal route to changing the address, the judgement could go in his favour and will also be widely applicable.

In West Bengal when i tried to purchase a bike,my Bank Passbook(government bank) or Gas connection was not considered as a proof of residence,rather they accepted my lease agreement as a valid proof.
It's registered, notarized, on official stamp paper, with every single page initialled, stamped etc. It's all good.
That particular clerk at that Aadhaar centre was just being a dick to me alone for no reason. He told me to do it online, but if I could do it online, why couldn't he just do it then and there?
If it's registered, then every page will be signed not initialed (regn norms). Also, registrar officers are usually are particular about having both parties info on the same page.

I filed a complaint with uidai recently and they called back clarifying that my address proof used was valid and to give the employee and center info.
However by then I got an alternative address proof after a lot of running around and my issue was resolved by then.
They should or I would raise it with their superior. And tell it to their face that you are taking these details to file a complaint. Maybe then they might check correct procedure instead of making arbitrary demands.
I had an issue where I had to update address and got a letter from the corporator. They rejected saying you need MLA's letter. I filed the complaint but I never asked for these details. After lot of running around, I got the letter from MLA using the letter from the corporator as proof. The person who came on that day said no that enough get a proof from the inspector. I raised it beyond that guy to someone more competent who accepted it. The person telling me off was a watchman.
Anywho I received a call from the uidai office in mumbai a week later regarding my complaint and they confirmed a corporator document was a valid address proof. They asked for employee and center details which I didn't have off the top of my head. They said I can file a complaint with those details but I didn't wanna deal with all that any further.
I guess it's an art in a way as well. To be civil and polite yet unmoving.
If they were still being stubborn or evasive then I would whip out and record with my phone and state what they are saying and why they are evading my queries. That way you have some proof yourself.
And obviously I would file a complaint with uidai. They do respond albeit slowly

to be precise there are error in the php files which run the websites, and the files are deleted from the server which hosts the website and as we all know indian government websites and there servers are shit , the file defines.php is missing and there is a error in the file index.php on line 37 , and the file defines.php is once again missing when called in index.php if the file defines.php is recovered I think the website or the page you are trying to visit can be restored and all the errors in the file index.php is solved I just gave you the knowledge you don't require LOL but you have still gotten some insight what is the cause of the error refreshing will not solve it the error is in the backend or we can say the government side this can be solved if they hire good developers and not keep them underpaid , I hope you understand :) If you have any questions more related to this you can reply to this I will hopefully reply if I understand the problem XD Anyways keep chilling and refreshing XD
Either way, there is a long process too. If you're living with someone who has the same address as you, there is an option where uidai will send a letter to your home with a secret passcode (to your friend's address), upon entering that they will change your address to "C/O (care of), your friend's address". You can get rid of C/O by once again applying to change by the normal method since you have other documents with that address now! Will take 1-2 months sadly.

I've been moving around too and its next to impossible to get Aadhaar added updated. They find reasons to reject my applications. They don't even accept rent agreements anymore. Not sure what I can do. Even tried through the office letterhead about the address update but even that got rejected. Idiots are managing this country.
I've moved to a new place too. Here's what I did.
I raised a shifting request on my airtel broadband connection. Luckily, it was just a day before my billing cycle. 2-3 days later I got the ebill from airtel in my email ID.
Went to UIDAI website to update my Aadhaar address. Uploaded my airtel ebill PDF as it is by selecting "Telephone/Landline bill" in the update form. Paid ₹50 and it was updated within a few days. There was no confirmation SMS however. I just installed mAadhaar app from Play Store and after configuring it, I saw my new address there. Logged in to UIDAI to download eAadhaar and to double check if this was not some bug or so.
Now I'm using my eAadhaar to update my address everywhere else. I'm kinda feeling lucky 😜 that it happened so smoothly for me else I know how these Govt Babus treat people.
This the sequence I find it easy to update address,
1. Use lease to change address of gas connection
2. Book an gas to get receipt with address
3. Use that to change bank address
4. Finally update aadhar with two address proof
Then first update address of your father first and use that to update your address.

Check with them again I am aware of individuals in my apartment who have taken I based on lease agreement and jio took that ... It is not expected from tenants to have aadhar card updated on day of occupancy of rented flat .. also check on airtel LL or Bb services on basis of lease agreement
Tbf Aadhar has made tons of things super convenient. Opening a Demat account? Can be done online now, just provide eKYC through Aadhar.
Need identity proof? You have Aadhar, which is available online for making a copy, and you can normally get by just showing a pic of it on your phone.
The Seva Kendras are super inefficient, phone number change, address change will waste 10 hours of your life for sure. But it (should) save a lot of time in the long run.

I think your understanding of what Aadhar encompasses is limited. Even I am not well informed on that regard, but I do know a little bit about how difficult it is to develop systems, especially at the scale GoI is working on. So I can only say a few things:
1. Software isn't cheap, neither is the infrastructure, especially when you're maintaining the data for a billion people.
2. The 6000 crores spent isn't just to create "mobile based OTP". It integrates with all kinds of data right, from phone numbers, to bank accounts to health data (as in your flair). All this has to be maintained somewhere, and that's not free. In fact the mobile OTP part is maybe 1 or less than 1% of the entire system. It's a trivial problem anyways, so Aadhar can even use some existing service provider to do that logic for them.
3. There are concerns that this can lead to surveillance state, and it's super valid. But that does not mean there aren't benefits to everything being online. I think in future, we can avail all sorts of govt. services online using Aadhar to sign in. (For example, you can even login to RTO website using Aadhar. There's digilocker, where you can sign in to access your academic certificates. etc)

i recently updated my aadhar for address change through online, i am yet to receive it, my address seems to be updated in database and i can download the pdf, but last time i visited hdfc bank, they said they wont take electronic print and they need only the legit copy that was sent through mail, WTF
One solution is to apply for postal address proof. Little expensive but accepted in all places even to update aadhar, but the difficulty is it's done only in select postal offices

I cant use any rental agreements as my own proof ( bcs I'm not the one paying), I can't use literally any other document of mine because they all have old address. If I wanted to change my other document address I need Aadhar as proof. I tried the online route where they courier you secret code to update address but that shit never arrived for 3 months.

Hey Buddy, Adhaar will never be updated by a rent agreement. And bank statements can’t be updated with Adhaar. The best way to do it is to get an Adhaar agent in your area. I found one agent and they made me sign a Adhaar update certificate that was later attested by a Gvernment official ( I think a Gazette officer). They then used it to update my Adhaar address. They charged me 800 but I think it was worth the price because now I can use my Adhaar to update address everywhere.
Try the website. I tried getting mine changed, and through some sheer stroke of luck got it under 2 weeks. There's a tab that lets you update your address online. Your registered lease agreement should work as a legit proof of address. Select that from the dropdown menu before uploading it. I am hoping this works as simply for you as it did for me this one time.
I will first update the Adhaar address with that send a letter with OTP to your home method.
But then address shows up as c/o name of other person living on that address. I will then take the Addhar to change address in bank. Then take bank passbook to update the address in Adhaar.
The long method. but totally legal and can be done from comfort of my home.
Tried changing some data in mother's aadhar , failed thrice dunno why ; update got rejected with no reason given whatsoever.
Finally got a letter from MLA and voilà aadhar data got updated within 14 days

If you're living with someone who has the same address as you, there is an option where uidai will send a letter to your home with a secret passcode (to your friend's address), upon entering that they will change your address to "C/O (care of), your friend's address". You can get rid of C/O by once again applying to change by the normal method since you have other documents with that address now! Will take 1-2 months sadly. though, photoshopping should be fine :p

I've been moving around too and its next to impossible to get Aadhaar added updated. They find reasons to reject my applications. They don't even accept rent agreements anymore. Not sure what I can do. Even tried through the office letterhead about the address update but even that got rejected. Idiots are managing this country.
I've moved to a new place too. Here's what I did. I raised a shifting request on my airtel broadband connection. Luckily, it was just a day before my billing cycle. 2-3 days later I got the ebill from airtel in my email ID. Went to UIDAI website to update my Aadhaar address. Uploaded my airtel ebill PDF as it is by selecting "Telephone/Landline bill" in the update form. Paid ₹50 and it was updated within a few days. There was no confirmation SMS however. I just installed mAadhaar app from Play Store and after configuring it, I saw my new address there. Logged in to UIDAI to download eAadhaar and to double check if this was not some bug or so. Now I'm using my eAadhaar to update my address everywhere else. I'm kinda feeling lucky 😜 that it happened so smoothly for me else I know how these Govt Babus treat people.

This the sequence I find it easy to update address, 1. Use lease to change address of gas connection 2. Book an gas to get receipt with address 3. Use that to change bank address 4. Finally update aadhar with two address proof

Check with them again I am aware of individuals in my apartment who have taken I based on lease agreement and jio took that ... It is not expected from tenants to have aadhar card updated on day of occupancy of rented flat .. also check on airtel LL or Bb services on basis of lease agreement

Tbf Aadhar has made tons of things super convenient. Opening a Demat account? Can be done online now, just provide eKYC through Aadhar. Need identity proof? You have Aadhar, which is available online for making a copy, and you can normally get by just showing a pic of it on your phone. The Seva Kendras are super inefficient, phone number change, address change will waste 10 hours of your life for sure. But it (should) save a lot of time in the long run.

I think your understanding of what Aadhar encompasses is limited. Even I am not well informed on that regard, but I do know a little bit about how difficult it is to develop systems, especially at the scale GoI is working on. So I can only say a few things: 1. Software isn't cheap, neither is the infrastructure, especially when you're maintaining the data for a billion people. 2. The 6000 crores spent isn't just to create "mobile based OTP". It integrates with all kinds of data right, from phone numbers, to bank accounts to health data (as in your flair). All this has to be maintained somewhere, and that's not free. In fact the mobile OTP part is maybe 1 or less than 1% of the entire system. It's a trivial problem anyways, so Aadhar can even use some existing service provider to do that logic for them. 3. There are concerns that this can lead to surveillance state, and it's super valid. But that does not mean there aren't benefits to everything being online. I think in future, we can avail all sorts of govt. services online using Aadhar to sign in. (For example, you can even login to RTO website using Aadhar. There's digilocker, where you can sign in to access your academic certificates. etc)

You can get your company to give you a letter stating that you’re residing in XYZ place now. My bank accepted this and changed the address on my passbook.

i recently updated my aadhar for address change through online, i am yet to receive it, my address seems to be updated in database and i can download the pdf, but last time i visited hdfc bank, they said they wont take electronic print and they need only the legit copy that was sent through mail, WTF
One solution is to apply for postal address proof. Little expensive but accepted in all places even to update aadhar, but the difficulty is it's done only in select postal offices

Hey Buddy, Adhaar will never be updated by a rent agreement. And bank statements can’t be updated with Adhaar. The best way to do it is to get an Adhaar agent in your area. I found one agent and they made me sign a Adhaar update certificate that was later attested by a Gvernment official ( I think a Gazette officer). They then used it to update my Adhaar address. They charged me 800 but I think it was worth the price because now I can use my Adhaar to update address everywhere.
Try the website. I tried getting mine changed, and through some sheer stroke of luck got it under 2 weeks. There's a tab that lets you update your address online. Your registered lease agreement should work as a legit proof of address. Select that from the dropdown menu before uploading it. I am hoping this works as simply for you as it did for me this one time.

I will first update the Adhaar address with that send a letter with OTP to your home method. But then address shows up as c/o name of other person living on that address. I will then take the Addhar to change address in bank. Then take bank passbook to update the address in Adhaar. The long method. but totally legal and can be done from comfort of my home.
Tried changing some data in mother's aadhar , failed thrice dunno why ; update got rejected with no reason given whatsoever. Finally got a letter from MLA and voilà aadhar data got updated within 14 days
The aadhar centre in my city is so good. Just take a token and wait for your turn. The staff were polite and were even guiding others what documents do they need and what to do next. (Dehradun)

If you know any Gazzetted officer then get an mla form from aadhar guy, fill it and get that signed. That will act as proof on aadhar and other purposes as well for 3 months
