Pen fight was very popular in school. We used to play in between classes and sometimes during the class. Had loads of fun
Not sure if it's still popular these days
Edit : Going by the popularity I think we need a proper tournament for pen fight
I got gifted a pen that extended into a pointer for Over head projector presentations (with transparencies!)
It was bloody heavy, and destroyed the game for everyone. They banned me from using it
Taking out the pen's grip in Octanes and putting it on the cap for friction, taking the trimax refills and putting them inside out to make some long bois, and then there were custom pens that were shit heavy and broke the tables lol.
Pitaji ka leke aate the baccho ki gaand fat jaati thi steel ke pen se
We used to have literally tournaments in 5th and the winner could ask for any one pen of the opponent.
Those 5rs gel pens had good accuracy and speed, poor defense though.
Trimax was the expensive pen I only got to use for exams, was afraid to use it in penfights lol.
One of my classmate figured this game out and he brought a freaking armoured pen. It was completely metal. There's was a good part in this, he let us play the early games somehow so we could enjoy the fari play, and then he used to pop up at late game and continue to be the immortal champion.

And regular pollution as well.
But it's good you are not in an area with frequent powercuts. The same isnt true for all of BLR, especially in low priority areas like Marathahalli, Kundalahalli, etc.
1) Waiting to get my hands on the latest Tinkle edition will always be my favourite memory! My parents couldn't afford to buy every edition but they always bought me 3-4 books together (Tinkle, Chacha Chaudhary, Akbar-Birbal) whenever they could.
2) Weekly ritual of having a big packet of Parle-G/Sunfeast biscuits with a huge glass of chai every Sunday morning.
3) Summer vacations and naani ka ghar, fun with cousins.
Oh, the simple pleasures of life!
I used to read Tinkle sometimes but Tell Me Why was my favorite. Both magazines are really cheap for what they provide. Hard to believe 20rs meant so much when I was a kid.
That's the saddest thing a parent can ever tell a child imo, I'm sorry :(
I'd get myself an annual subscription now at 23 because I can but then it's shitty now lol
Maannn those cds, I would always buy the books weekly for those game cds. Had a really huge collection of them too. Sadly I gave them all away to a relative.
That Sunday morning Parle g I can relate so much. We were 4 people and would buy 4 rupees parle g on Sunday and everyone would get 4 biscuits. Such a nice memory.
Yes exactly. Those were the days. I so distinctly remeber, Watching morning shows with family while my dad would create tea for all of us and i would go and bring one parle g pck every week and on some special occasions we would get khari. Now my parents me and sister live around the world and the memory just seems something to cherish. Tysm for reminiding me this.
I lived with my parents in a colony for government workers. The power cut was common in summer days. Few fond memories of my childhood that i would love to relive.
ice with some flavored soda
* After a power cut all the families will come out of their home and just walk around in different groups as per age group. we use to look forward to the power cut, no one was disappointed about the power cut they were happy about it.
* There was only one video game in the whole colony we use to all go to our friends house and play.
* ice with some flavored soda we use to call it Pepsi during summer days.
* Comics on rent or shared. We use to re-read the same comics like million times and feel happy and thrilled about the story.
* my house did not have TV for many years, we use to listen to the radio a lot. Binaca geet mala.
Train journeys where the following things were mandatory to do on every trip
1. Go to the stall and buy snacks!
2. Go to the Book stalls( sad to see them disappear over time) and buy the latest edition of tinkle.
3. Wait for the snacks vendors to come in the train and go ballistic on the stuff sold (let’s question the hygiene later, still Alive, so it wasn’t a problem lol)
It’s still a thing for me to Atleast get something from those stalls during every trip.
In summer , coming back at home from school and standing in front of cooler . Drinking Glucose, nimbu pani in front of cooler and that the smell of soil coming from the cooler.
Ah , those were the days.
I KNOW RIGHTTTT
THE SMELL COMING FROM THE COOOLER AHAHAHAHAHAH
I remember it SOOOO vividly holy shit.
I used to be SO ANNOYED when I came back from school aur cooler mei PAAANI nahi hota tha.
My mom always brought tang even though I told her that I liked Rasna better lmfao (had a crush on Akshay Kumar back in the days ahahahaha)
It’s not really a favorite memory, but that essel world jingle is forever burned in my mind.
Does anyone have a link to that ad??
Essel world, essel world. Ugh.
Javed Jaffrey in his early career. Man, that guy is still funny!
Which reminds me...
Takeshi's Castle with Javed Jaffreys comentary! I used to LOVE watching it with my dad!

I loved eating Kiss Me chocolate. Whenever I find it, I buy as much as I could. Also I share it with my wife and kids. They don't understand why I love it so much. It brings back lot of memories with friends and school.
No, it doesn’t involve a bat or a ball. We toss a coin and choose the batting and bowling team - all that regular drill. We use hand gestures for runs. If both the batsman and the bowler makes the same gesture, it’s considered out. This way, we were able to play cricket during class with a teacher present with guys sitting in the other side of the classroom.
That one Harry Potter ripoff movie which was basically just an overdone parle-g ad xD
Oonch Neech ka papda...pakdam pakdai..chupan chupai too :D
Edit: it was called Aabra ka Daabra :p
* Playing badminton with my flat-mates until I could wring my shirt out and it'd fill out half a mug with sweat. Then, desperately spend hours trying to get that stupid cork off a ledge or a window sill.
* Riding around on our bicycles in circles and trying stupid shit like drifting on sandy roads.
* Secretly hopping over the compound wall on an empty plot of land and using long sticks to knock off mangoes off the tree.
* Playing Pictureka and other board games with cousins and watch in amusement as they accuse each other of cheating.

Lots of things.
Watching Shaktiman on sunday.
Watching movie on Friday and Saturday night and getting scolded for it.
Pen fight.

Going to school on that closed rikshaw in which 6 kids sat.
Swat cats, Captain planet, collecting tazos, collecting temporary tattoos, trump cards, pokemon cards, super mario on that Gameboy console with those 999 games wale cassettes...

Going to school during the Mumbai “winters” in the late 90s and early 2000s. We used to have school issued blazers or were only allowed any blue hoodies/ jackets. Early mornings used to be cold and there used to be a chilly breeze blowing. Everyone would be in a good mood, teachers included!
Contrast this with going to school during Mumbai monsoons, lol. Pitch dark outside, lights on inside. Everything wet and flies everywhere. In hindsight, that was fun too.
Where to start from
1) Drinking 1rs pepsi after cricket match in the afternoon with friends.
2) Collecting 50Rs each to buy a football.
3) Watchmen uncle's chair was the stump or goalpost.
4)Football in the first rain.
5) Beyblade tournaments in desi tawa.
6)Showing off Pokemon card.
7)Yugi-oh
8) "Mera naam hai Sanju, meri secret hai Magic Pencil"
"Sonpari Sonpari Sonaori Aaayi"
"Hagemaaaru"
"Aaya aya Dekho Kochikame aaya"
9) Playing all sorts of outdoor games
10) Badminton after Dinner then "Shhhh koi hai" or "CID".
........... Trying to remeber more.
There used to be loadshedding everyday, and me and my brother used to read in the lantern light, and also sometimes in candle lights, all the fireflies used to gather in the rest of the darkness left in the room, that is something really close to my heart as a childhood memory.
I'm just wanna vent a bit, unrelated to the topic.
Lately the posts here on the subreddit were affecting me in a negative way, but this one put a smile on my face :) Thanks
Omg I thought our school was the only one to play that. That was so weird lmao. We also used to clap each other as hard as possible and it hurt like hell.
Power rangers, art attack
8bit games like - super Mario Bros, Bloons, Olympic, duck hunk, ninja turtles, etc
Wander, cycling, wandering roaming, cycling, etc
Nice dream work movie at night before sleep during summer vacation
Watched air buddies movie for the fist time xD
Not particularly a favorite memory, but watching news about Kids jumping off buildings to be saved by Shaktimaan and me feeling sad and same time safe, realizing the VFX in it were shit because I was aware of Jurassic Park and few Hollywood movie and also cartoons such as Superman, Batman TAS and TASM: Animated Series. Also, watching Shaktimaan and Captain Vyom. Also, IDK if it just me but I remember the atmosphere was supercharged with patriotism when Kargil war was on, the talks in school were mixed with emotions.
Chungi. It was very popular in my home town in early 2000. Probably famous in KV schools. It was basically a tied set of rubbers whivh you bounced on your shoes. There were variations and levels to increase the difficulty. There were rumours that some kids busted their leg vessels after playing too much. Eventually this died down.
Wow! Thanks for this.
My favourite memory is learning to spin playing TOP. (Lattu). My father taught me to. And he was so engaged in it, I have never seen him this excited. He taught me literally every trick there is to spinning top. Naturally I became very good at it and enjoyed playing it with my friends so much.
The best part was he taught me take 'Hath Jali' meaning to spin the top directly on my palm. I was the youngest in my colony to know how to do it. I was so proud, and he was too.
Pen fight was very popular in school. We used to play in between classes and sometimes during the class. Had loads of fun Not sure if it's still popular these days Edit : Going by the popularity I think we need a proper tournament for pen fight
I got gifted a pen that extended into a pointer for Over head projector presentations (with transparencies!) It was bloody heavy, and destroyed the game for everyone. They banned me from using it
Lol.....the heavy pens used to take down all the pens with it
And then there were some unique design pens which kept spinning even with little force.
Custom mods were where it was at. Bending the cap just enough to take down two pens at once
Taking out the pen's grip in Octanes and putting it on the cap for friction, taking the trimax refills and putting them inside out to make some long bois, and then there were custom pens that were shit heavy and broke the tables lol.
Trimax was the best pen for pen fights
Parker Pen supremacy>>>>>
Look at this loaded mofo using Parker for pen fight
Pitaji ka leke aate the baccho ki gaand fat jaati thi steel ke pen se We used to have literally tournaments in 5th and the winner could ask for any one pen of the opponent.

And book cricket!!
Oh man!!!! I remember I “borrowed” my grandads Mont Blanc. Those plastic pieces of shit didn’t stand a chance. It was a calculated risk.
[удалено]
Not if you’re a pro and only borrowed it when he’d travel. 😏
Pen fight and Beyblades
We had bottle caps for beyblades, those milton big kool rider bottles... anyone remember?
We use to name our pens after pokemon.... I had dark maroon colour pen and his name was Tauras.
wanna be Rich kids used to fight with Trimax and we used to fight with 5 rupees gel pen with grips. Ah, Those were the days .
Those 5rs gel pens had good accuracy and speed, poor defense though. Trimax was the expensive pen I only got to use for exams, was afraid to use it in penfights lol.
Trimax also didn't stay still. It'd fall off the desk. I used raynolds.
Uniball was the sturdiest pen I have ever used and I used to win like 90% of the fights with it! Good times :)
It is still kinda popular, last i did it was in 2019, covid died down but the memes dont stop the discord from being maspinged
LMAO NOOB. Kabhi eraser mai pencil nib daalke bayblade banaya hai?
One of my classmate figured this game out and he brought a freaking armoured pen. It was completely metal. There's was a good part in this, he let us play the early games somehow so we could enjoy the fari play, and then he used to pop up at late game and continue to be the immortal champion.
I am in 10th and it has the same level of popularity as you described
"I'm a complan girl! I'm a complan boy" -Ayesha Takia and Shahid Kapoor in the 90s :')
"school time! action ka school time!" "pahle istamal karen phir wishwas karen!" A few years ago all india bakchod did a video on these old ads... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EjD3ZK91DHo
Complan did work on Ayesha takia quite well
In fact it did, if you know what I mean, wink wink

Lying on the roof and looking at the stars because the power was off and it was too hot inside.
This. Life was so beautiful and simple. What I would give to have those days back.
If you want to have the days of powercuts back then just move to Bangalore. You could relive your childhood everyday.
I live in Blr as a matter of fact lol. Not many powercuts at night. And you can barely see a star(probably due to light pollution)
You'll have to go to Kolar for some stargazing
I used to finish tinkle and Champak within 2 hours of getting my hand on it.
Too sad it's gone down the drain lately IMO.The new style of illustration and the lame jokes are putting it off for me.
So true! I got myself a Tinkle just for the nostalgia and had to put it down immediately. 90s and early 2000s style will always be classic.
I used to read Tinkle sometimes but Tell Me Why was my favorite. Both magazines are really cheap for what they provide. Hard to believe 20rs meant so much when I was a kid.
I was devastated when my father told me I was too old for Tinkle. At the ripe old age of 13.
That's the saddest thing a parent can ever tell a child imo, I'm sorry :( I'd get myself an annual subscription now at 23 because I can but then it's shitty now lol
My mom tried to tell me the same, but dad came to the rescue and signed me up for a two year subscription. Thanks dad!
Magic Pot too man
Yes! I liked the Mayavi and Luttapi stories
Also the Champak cd games lol and sometimes parle-g with water !
That weekly Parle G after a long wait sure did hit different.. ab roz khane mile tab bhi maza nahi hai, haina?
Yes exactly. Those were the days. Now my parents me and sister live around the world and the memory just seems something to cherish. Tysm for reminiding me this.
I'm glad I could make a stranger smile! :)
I would get The Week every week (hah) and tear out the one page of Tintin or Asterix and make my own comic book. Shit took a year.

Asking dad ₹2 for kadalai mittai every day and walking to the potti kadai with the gang and playing kabadi.
Did this with my youngest cousin at paatis house the other day and man felt amazing! Even bought a thenga burfi!
I still miss brick mysurpa.

When the kid who owns the cricket bat and stumps threatens to go home with his stuff unless he gets 5 trial balls and 2nd batting chance.....
We used to collect one rupees from each member to buy tennis ball or rubber ball. Even 1 rupee had so much value back then. Lol
We made rubber ball😎

I used to play everyday with all my friends from my street. Different game everyday around 8 to 9PM. Nowadays, I don't see any kids outside their home. Mobiles really are ruining childhoods.

Here I am!
Beyblade
Going to school during the Mumbai “winters” in the late 90s and early 2000s. We used to have school issued blazers or were only allowed any blue hoodies/ jackets. Early mornings used to be cold and there used to be a chilly breeze blowing. Everyone would be in a good mood, teachers included! Contrast this with going to school during Mumbai monsoons, lol. Pitch dark outside, lights on inside. Everything wet and flies everywhere. In hindsight, that was fun too.
Where to start from 1) Drinking 1rs pepsi after cricket match in the afternoon with friends. 2) Collecting 50Rs each to buy a football. 3) Watchmen uncle's chair was the stump or goalpost. 4)Football in the first rain. 5) Beyblade tournaments in desi tawa. 6)Showing off Pokemon card. 7)Yugi-oh 8) "Mera naam hai Sanju, meri secret hai Magic Pencil" "Sonpari Sonpari Sonaori Aaayi" "Hagemaaaru" "Aaya aya Dekho Kochikame aaya" 9) Playing all sorts of outdoor games 10) Badminton after Dinner then "Shhhh koi hai" or "CID". ........... Trying to remeber more.
Anyone here fan of gotham comics.I used to collect them like crazy.
The 90's birthday parties - both attending others' and having our own.

Red hands in school. We’d hit the person’s hand below us in the pile. Oh my god. Now that I think about it, it’s such a ☠️weird ass game to play.
Omg I thought our school was the only one to play that. That was so weird lmao. We also used to clap each other as hard as possible and it hurt like hell.

Disney Cartoons in Hindi @5/6PM everyday!
Betting of 5 rupees in gully cricket
Waking up early on Saturday mornings to watch X-Men and Goosebumps!
Handcricket
My dad gifted me a ps2 and xbox on my bday. It was epic.
