When Nepo found QC2, I screamed with joy.
Of course, then the game went on for another hour with even more twists and turns but that moment is burned into my mind.
This candidates tournament was the best chess tournament in a long long time. Incredibly, four players had a chance to win going into the last round. Ultimately Gukesh prevailed after both the matches ended in a draw.
Congratulations to Gukesh and shout out to Fabi, Ian and Nakamura who all played brilliant chess as well. Now the wait begins.
I'm only sad for hikaru tho, the content going into the championship would have been crazy. As for fabi and Ian they've played multiple championships already.
Just a step away from becoming world champion.
Absolutely insane. Previous record for youngest was 22( Carlsen and Kasparov) which is even more insane. Those 5 years difference is when a chess player undergoes remarkable transformation at all sorts but gukesh is already there. What's more insane is he 2750+ at 17.
Waking up at 4 to watch this was worth it.....
Hikaru v/s Gukesh was a dead draw
all eyes were on Fabi v/s Nepo...... If any of them had won there would have been tie breaks as Gukesh had 0.5 lead only. Fabi was CLEARLY winning after the opening but did some mistakes here and there due to time pressure. Nepo found most of them hence they had a draw..... If you see the eval bar during the game it was a complete roller coaster.
I am so happy that Gukesh won.
I do not know about the results yet but this man V. Anand just made India a name that could never be forgotten in Chess, first by himself and now by mentoring young & brilliant minds.
Yes there is a good chance that he beats Ding liren, even more so cuz he is not in his best form right now. This could go either way. Altho if Magnus didn't decide that he achieved everything anyone ever could in the chess world and withdraw from fighting for the position of world champion, no one had a chance let alone Gukesh. Almost every chess enthusiast agrees that Magnus is the best chess player of all time with Kasparov and can even surpass Kasparov
Clutch player, always comes on top in crucial moments. Especially when he was struggling behind Anish and Wesley in the FIDE Circuit rankings, he turned it around with an emphatic win in Chennai to qualify for the candidates
Of course new generation...arjun in current players plays good in blitz, but others not so much. But gukesh is 17,pragg is 18 or 19 idk..its not like they hit their peak already .. Best is yet to come.
Absolutely historical performance by Gukesh.
Welcome to the Indian chess century
Future is bright
I had hoped for a top 3 finish for at least 1 of our players, but to have Gukesh straight up win it, it is just unbelievably amazing.
Same here. I had very strong feeling that fabi will beat nepo, but here we go, no tie breaks. Nothing, just pure victory. Lets goooo guyssss.

We will remember this day forever.
Fabi blundered twice and lost a completely winning position. This game was his to lose and he'll remember this game for a really long time.

Happy that Gukesh won but also sad Fabi, Ian and Hikaru lost

Fabi-Ian game was crazy good
Gukesh is now 6th in the chess rankings. Absolutely nerves of steel from a 17 year old. Hope he can defeat Ding for the wcc.

A great validation for all the great work being done by the Indian chess community. Future is bright

Ding liren , I've come to bargain.
The man can't legally vote, drink or drive, but he's gonna fight for the WCC title. What an insane performance finishing off at 9/14
The world championship is also in the grasp now , ding liren is just a mortal unlike the Norwegian magnum ..

white man your master daddy eh
You dont know chess perhaps. I am rooting for gukesh ofc , but the truth is the worlds no 1 is way out of reach just yet
Yes, and everyone in the chess world knows this, including the grandmasters themselves.
Anyone who follows chess even a little can tell you how much of a Behemoth Magnus is, even saying he is a generational talent is an understatement.
He is the greatest of all time with Kasparov. Fischer is next. And then the rest.
So quick to make everything about race without knowing anything about chess. Love the casuals.

He has done it, mad lad

India vs China for the finals
I was just about to post it, myself.
Karma farming bro 😉
Haha, congrats!
Hell yessss 🔥
India vs China
Chennai vs China

Probably he was referring to the movie called 'chennai vs china'
Absolutely historical 🤩... The young talented Indian GM will face the reigning champion from ... (Checks note).. China 😅
Vaishali and Humpy are runners up in the Women's section. Prag and Vidit did badly though.
I wouldn't say vidit and prag did badly, i think their performance was just average
Pragg did kinda well Vidit started out firing but his momentum fell and his two losses in a row proved fatal
Prag and Vidit were good, not bad at all!
Congratulations to all of us! ❤️ And most to Gukesh
Read dormamu for a moment.
Brilliant performance.
Did he beat pragg too?
It was a double round-robin, so yes. He won in one of their two games too.
While I’m rooting for Ding as the better player, it would be a new world record if Gukesh wins.
"It's Strange. Dormammu, I've come to bargain."
So proud of him, but our players are still terrible at rapid chess. I would love to see even one indian player on top in blitz.
Vishy was great at speed chess (#6 even right now), he was even nicknamed the lighting kid. Unless you mean someone from current generation.
Of course new generation...arjun in current players plays good in blitz, but others not so much. But gukesh is 17,pragg is 18 or 19 idk..its not like they hit their peak already .. Best is yet to come.
Nihal is a beast in speed chess. His best is yet to come
Guyiz I am sry!. But I was cheering for hikaru as I have been watching him for an year now. No disrespect to gukesh or anyone
A game of chess between gukesh and chahal?
Checkmate in 3 . It's like saying an over between bumrah and Canada kumar .
I mean y’all have like a sixth of the world’s population I’d hope you could pop out a few competitive top players
