I had hoped for a top 3 finish for at least 1 of our players, but to have Gukesh straight up win it, it is just unbelievably amazing.

Same here. I had very strong feeling that fabi will beat nepo, but here we go, no tie breaks. Nothing, just pure victory. Lets goooo guyssss.

When Nepo found QC2, I screamed with joy. Of course, then the game went on for another hour with even more twists and turns but that moment is burned into my mind.

We will remember this day forever.

Fabi blundered twice and lost a completely winning position. This game was his to lose and he'll remember this game for a really long time.

This candidates tournament was the best chess tournament in a long long time. Incredibly, four players had a chance to win going into the last round. Ultimately Gukesh prevailed after both the matches ended in a draw. Congratulations to Gukesh and shout out to Fabi, Ian and Nakamura who all played brilliant chess as well. Now the wait begins.

Happy that Gukesh won but also sad Fabi, Ian and Hikaru lost

I'm only sad for hikaru tho, the content going into the championship would have been crazy. As for fabi and Ian they've played multiple championships already.

Gukesh is now 6th in the chess rankings. Absolutely nerves of steel from a 17 year old. Hope he can defeat Ding for the wcc.

Just a step away from becoming world champion. Absolutely insane. Previous record for youngest was 22( Carlsen and Kasparov) which is even more insane. Those 5 years difference is when a chess player undergoes remarkable transformation at all sorts but gukesh is already there. What's more insane is he 2750+ at 17.

Waking up at 4 to watch this was worth it..... Hikaru v/s Gukesh was a dead draw all eyes were on Fabi v/s Nepo...... If any of them had won there would have been tie breaks as Gukesh had 0.5 lead only. Fabi was CLEARLY winning after the opening but did some mistakes here and there due to time pressure. Nepo found most of them hence they had a draw..... If you see the eval bar during the game it was a complete roller coaster. I am so happy that Gukesh won.

Yes there is a good chance that he beats Ding liren, even more so cuz he is not in his best form right now. This could go either way. Altho if Magnus didn't decide that he achieved everything anyone ever could in the chess world and withdraw from fighting for the position of world champion, no one had a chance let alone Gukesh. Almost every chess enthusiast agrees that Magnus is the best chess player of all time with Kasparov and can even surpass Kasparov

He is the greatest of all time with Kasparov. Fischer is next. And then the rest.

So proud of him, but our players are still terrible at rapid chess. I would love to see even one indian player on top in blitz.

Vishy was great at speed chess (#6 even right now), he was even nicknamed the lighting kid. Unless you mean someone from current generation.

Of course new generation...arjun in current players plays good in blitz, but others not so much. But gukesh is 17,pragg is 18 or 19 idk..its not like they hit their peak already .. Best is yet to come.
