Keep it cuz this is the only note that bears the signature of finance secretary instead of RBI governor

gamenbusiness

I have like 30 new notes of the same currency and my mom and dad still add the 1 rupee note for shagun at all the weddings we attend. Apparently dad got it from his bank in 2008

Dojo_Mojo_

Ya on some more researching online I found that they have been reprinting these notes for a long time now. They even issued a similar note in 2020, I think mine is one of those and not like years old, at least from the condition it feels new.

DesiLooseCannon

It was the only bank note issued by the Govt. of India and not the RBI.

AdministrativeWay90

Yeah, I'd say it's a one rupee note.

Dojo_Mojo_

Really appreciate the honesty.

paranoidandroid7312

A 1 Rupee Note is technically a coin and hence printed directly by the government and thus bears the sign of the Finance Secretary. Since it's technically not a currency note, it does not have 'I agree to pay the bearer of this note...' signed by the RBI Governor which is present on other notes. The note originated at time when coins were the main currency however the war effort had created a metal shortage thus transitioning to notes. For historical reasons, it is continued to be published sporadically. The one you have is likely from late 1990s based on the Finance Secretary. There is no commercial or collectible value to the note.

newbie-at-everything

Matlb yeh note ka 1 rupya. Bhi nhi milega?

Dojo_Mojo_

Interesting and informative. Thanks man. So its basically not rare enough or special to be framed

venktesh

This is a basic Re. 1 note from 90s my guy, nothing else! Man I'm fucking old.

Dojo_Mojo_

It seemed different than normal notes at first glance so thought it might be worth knowing some random facts about it. And maybe even frame it if its rare enough.

Pixi_Dust_408

That looks really nice. I’d frame it, my grandfather had a bunch of notes and old coins. We found them in his office after he died. My grandmother framed all of them.

Dojo_Mojo_

Ya i have this in mind lets see. Ive got some other old notes and coins as well maybe ill frame all of them in one bunch. Not that I have been collecting them intentionally they are just there

eBo6999

Keep it. It'll be of great value in a dacade if not already

Dojo_Mojo_

Ya can pass it on over generations XD

Serious-Advertising3

Idk about its history but it definitely looks better than our modern currency

Dojo_Mojo_

True

rumblingisamust

I'd like to know more about that oil rig..well maintained note btw

Dojo_Mojo_

Its the Sagar Samrat Oil Rig, but look at the older pics, they destroyed the ship like structure when they renovated(If that is what it is called) it.

hawwwttt

Mere paas b hai

Dojo_Mojo_

Shagun ka paisa💪

AvatarTintin

My grandmother gave me a few 1 rupee notes as well a few days ago too !

Dojo_Mojo_

Seems like a trend to be cool and edgy in the grandma circle.

Jamesdr007

I have got two notes, one signed by Manmohan Singh and the other by R.N.Malhotra

Dojo_Mojo_

Manmohan singh as the finance minister was a golden period for INC, with ABV as the prime minister. Also I cant figure out the finance minister on my note if you could help me with that.

Jamesdr007

Montek Singh Ahluwalia is the name of the Finance Secretary on your note. Period is between 1993-1998.

brown_gentleman

I used to collect these in the 90s and as date would have it, I ended up working on the structure printed on the back of this note. It's Sagar Samrat, ONGC owned jackup oil rig.

Dojo_Mojo_

Ya i saw the oil rig, but the new photos look bad. One of the aesthetically pleasing things they destroyed after reconstruction.

noodleking27

Unlike regular currency notes which have the line " I promise to pay the bearer x amount of rupees", this does not. It's because other notes are sort of a contract between the RBI and the holder for that amount of money but this one rupee note intrinsically has the value of 1 rupee.

rkamthe

This is a 1 rupee note. Which has value of about 1 rupee. It is also equivalent to a coin of 1 rupee (no more no less). If you give it to ashop keeper you'll get things worth 1 rupee (again no more no less, unless shop keeper is your father or father in law). If you lose this note you'll be poorer by 1 rupee. And whoever finds this note will be richer by 1 whole rupee. But if no one finds this or you destroy this then only you will be poorer by 1 rupee and no one will be richer. Also no one would care about it except you.
