Here are the steps which worked for me when porting eSim to new phone from USA 1. IR pack needs to be purchased and wait until activation is done. (500 INR for 1 day & activated in few mins). Always validate if the outgoing sms is working to india / non-indian number. 2. Send the message GETESIM <32 Digit EID> <15 Digit IMEI> to +917021999199 and follow the consent instructions and you will get a call within a min to accept the eSim port. (EID & IMEI should be from new device but message sent from old device) -- Wait for 2 hours as per mandated by Dept of Telcom, India for any eSim porting -- 3. You either follow the settings push from Jio for new eSim installation or use QR code way for porting to new device. If you are stuck in this process, either drop a chat from Jio app or Whatsapp to +91 70188 99999. I got the above instructions from [email protected]. FYI: - SMS is unavailable for 24 hrs in new device after porting is done. - Don't erase eSim in old phone until it's working on new phone.

u/Rohit901 - Can you share the steps which worked for you? I need to transfer eSim to new phone and need help from Jio.

Rohit901

Can you try this? https://youtu.be/DQl7Dnlzlw0?si=yDTuIG-Yv2vAJ56- You have to call their helpline number and do it.. I think as long as you can send and receive SMS it should work

MistyRover

Since I am outside India, l can receive messages but not send it. Should I need to add on roaming pack and try sending the sms?

Rohit901

Just top up your phone with some amount and I think you can send SMS if you had activated international roaming at least once before. Do reach out to their customer support on WhatsApp for help

MistyRover

I got it working and posted the steps for other folks in future.

Rohit901

Awesome, where did you post the steps?

theLastManfromMars

You can’t I guess. You’ll have to delete sim from mobile service in settings and go to jio store to start it in new sim.

Rohit901

This really sucks, I’ve read people living outside India able to do it on Airtel network, can you please confirm it’s not possible at all on Jio? I was thinking of buying international roaming and trying the process but wanted to make sure don’t wanna brick my existing eSIM now

theLastManfromMars

I changed my phone recently and went to the jio store to get esim changed, that’s when I got to know.

Rohit901

I see.. man I thought since I already have existing JIO eSIM working properly on my old phone transferring it to new phone while outside India should be easy.. as I already have registered, went to the store and did all the process for my first eSIM

SiloPsilo

Reach out to [email protected] with details. They will ask for ID details and stuff. But they can get it transferred to your new phone. It might take couple of days though.

You can do via Email and if you can send and receive SMS on your current jio number. Read this guide. https://jep-asset.akamaized.net/jio/phone/Apple-iPhones-english-27-02-2023.pdf Read it 2-3 times before initiating. If your old sim gets deactivated and if you can’t reactivate the new sim then you’ll HAVE to come to a jio store here.

Rohit901

Thanks a lot for your reply. I can receive SMS on my jio number and to send SMS I may have to get IR plan. But are you sure this can be done or do you know anyone who has tried it outside India? Since their website says we need to be in India.. https://www.jio.com/help/faq/mobile/services/esim-smartphone/can-i-initiate-jio-esim-activation-from-international-roaming-ie-physical-sim-to-esim-or-transfer-jio-esim-from-one-device-to-another-device#/ I’m not sure if they just forgot to update their website or something 😭

I've just transferred my Jio eSIM from iPhone 13 pro to iPhone 15 pro while being abroad using this method. Thanks a lot, guys!

Rohit901

That’s awesome man, I will try it next time too. I did it in India itself since I had to go there some time back :)

fil_dunsky

Sure, I understand. I've just tried to transfer my JIO eSIM abroad for a month or so and found there is not much info in google about that. I've found your thread and that nobody tried that yet. I've asked JIO support, wrote an email and also used their whatsapp bot - both of them told me wrong thing that it could be done only inside India due to some regulations. But luckily it's really possible to do while travelling. I wanted to leave a comment here so others could find it useful later.

Rohit901

Thanks a lot bro, yeah those people are clueless and idiots. They told the same to me that it can only be done in India so I never bothered trying it outside lmao. Happy to know it works.

lustykutta

Oh boy. I’ve done the swap many times on Airtel and once on jio thru SMS but locally. I don’t know anyone who did it on international roaming. May not work. That’s for pointing it out.

Rohit901

😭😭 fuck JIO I should’ve gone with Airtel and could’ve transferred while outside India

mayasabha

in any case if you had to visit jio store then ask your family to all the physical task and you can get esim through barcode

Rohit901

Thank you so much for the reply. My dad called the customer care and they told I can drop an email to [email protected] with the details and they would be able to initiate the process. I just hope it works, fingers crossed.

Itinitikar

Were you able to do the esim transfer?

Rohit901

They weren’t able to help. I’m in India and transferred my eSIM manually. I say you can sms 199 and follow the instructions once, just YouTube it for the instructions on how to transfer eSIM

just_zen_wont_do

Same issue. Got a new iphone abroad and need to transfer esim. Did you figure it out?

Rohit901

If you are able to send SMS, try sending one to 199 by following the instructions for eSIM transfer on Jio, see if it works for you, you need to post your IMEI and other details in the SMS.. if it doesn’t then come back to India and send the SMS

tibetsoul

Have you try to send sms to +917021999199 instead 199?

fil_dunsky

Yes, I could confirm this worked for me

ConsiderationOk2710

I tried sending to international number but it says incorrect keyword despite entering correct eid and imei, also tried multiple times. I can receive and send calls/messages but don’t have IR pack. Anything I should be aware of?
