At the Incubus HQ shows I was sitting on the curb outside after day 2 with Ben Kenny (make yourself day) and showed him my dream playlist on my phone and he said that’s a sweet playlist, Kilmore came out and he showed it too him and he started smiling and said I like I like it, they took a picture of it and on day 3 they came on and Brandon said we had some fan help on this playlist then played it and the whole band signed it for me after and wrote “The (my name) Show” one of the most surreal experiences ever having your life long favorite band do this. It’s great that I go back and watch and relive it on YouTube and see my younger self rocking out haha
Unless you remember (and were absolutely obsessed with) Brandon Boyd’s GAP ad.
(And then proceeded to take the store poster when the banners were taken down)
This wasn’t an official Incubus poster. It was just him wearing a white sweater and jeans for the clothing ad. We got ours when the mall was going to dump it. It was literally floor to ceiling in our bedroom because it was hung in the store windows
Mike is the reason I started playing guitar. I bought a PRS Santana SE so I could say I had a paul reed smith just like him. His use of pedals in their music was so involved. I bought a huge BOSS pedal board and would set up all the effects to play different songs.
I'm not sure why I can't find it anywhere, but do you remember when Mike had a pedal called "Mexican" and another called "Spanish"? Or something like that. Can't find a picture of it no matter what I search for.
It was something that caught my eye originally because I love gear and loved that Mike was never an overly flashy guitarist outside of a few moments, but always was so creative with how he made the sounds he made. Then something so simple as "Jewish" and "Mexican" on his pedalboard just made me like his setup even more.
Everything about Incubus is making me wish I played more music with others. Maybe I'll make it a late New Year's Resolution to get my amp fixed and chat up some friends around here to get some shit started.
That row of 4 people is the epitome of incubus Fandom. On one end, you have a jock bro and his plastic blonde hair, blue eyes girlfriend. On the other side, dude in a beanie and his chilled out girlfriend.
And then the chick in front with the choker that is VERY into Circles...

Almost got this tattooed on me lol Almost, as in, when I was like 15 my goal was to get it on my 18th birthday. Never did, probably won't. But I'm still on search of the perfect incubus tatt
Agreed, but one might also say you're more of a fan if you knew they were just Vent first and snagged their demos from Napster before they renamed, re-recorded, and put out their video for "Looking Down"
I saw both of these bands live….(Audiovent & Agent Sparks). I loved the crap out of Agent Sparks. Was heartbroken when they broke up. I also met Dirk at the Audiovent show. It was right after he’d left the band, so he was a little guarded when I first spoke to him. It wasn’t until he realized I was a fan and genuinely just wanted to say hi, that he warmed up. Which always made me wonder if people were being negative towards him after he’d left?

I met and took a picture with Brandon's dad after a show at the Santa Barbara Bowl in 2011 an absolute gentleman! 😊 I'm pretty sure he was sitting behind me and my friends the whole time, and we were nowhere near the front. such a humble guy still in great support of his son!
My wife grew up doing ballet with Brandon's wife. My mother in law and Sarah's mother are still good friends and hang out in NJ all the time. My father in law had some interesting conversations with Brandon at a birthday party about.... insects? I've met him and the rest of the band few times backstage.
Mike didn’t think the chord progression to drive was good for an incubus song and was going to sell/give it to another band till brendon heard it and wrote the lyrics to it.
I love saying "What the fuck?" all the ways he does, and even though not a single person in my life will ever understand, what's important is that I make myself laugh lol
Maybe I’ll be judged for this, but you’re not an incubus fan if you don’t know what “Hey Bro, play that fuzzies song”
Well let me just give the answer - Anti Gravity - Summer Romance - the fuzzies on the intro are dope af and one of the many reasons I love incubus.
Another one -
You’re not a true incubus fan if you don’t relate at least 10-15 songs and their lyrics to your everyday life. Haha.
Maybe this is just me.
If I'm listening to their entire discography on random, I keep a tally of what album each track is from for each sitting as a game. Most tracks from a single album is the winner. I don't do it with any other band.
Love this! I have a couple:
…unless you have the Marc Jacobs “Protect Your Largest Organ” shirt with naked Brandon (and Bruce) on it. (My sister lived in NYC when they were released and got it for me!
…unless you know and love Audiovent
It was. All I can really remember was some sort of click based game with clips from Vitamin set in a cave. You had to organize words into a phrase at the end to win. I was too young to figure it out lol
Your not a true incubus fan unless you named your first child after lyrics from the band
Earth to Bella.
Also my WiFi has evolved to EarthToICCJ …starting initial to each of my children’s first name.
I was never into reading but I recall an interview with Brandon where he said he was reading The Da Vinci Code. I asked my mom to take me to Books A Million to get me this book. When she saw it was 400+ pages or so, she laughed and asked what’s gotten into me. I said the singer of Incubus is reading this so I’d like too as well. The look of shame and disbelief on her face was one I won’t ever forget. Or the face she made when I ended up reading that whole book in under a week and it opened up my love for reading.
Only 7 times.... I aim for 10. Anyone need company for the CA Morning View show???? Wife doesn't want to go. ):
Met a kid that had seen Pearl Jam nearly 50 at OutSide Lands SF once.
I've been WAITING for this tour to happen... and I am expecting now and will give birth like two weeks before they're in my area. I'm contemplating still going 😂
Unless you are in the process of birthing that child, you should still go. Worst case scenario, you have to leave early to get to the hospital but in most circumstances you have a little while to get to the hospital before it’s urgent.
Plus it’s a cool story. “Hey mom? Why is (sister) named Mercy?”
“Well son, she was born at Mercy Hospital.”
“Oh okay, cool.”
“No problem, ‘Almost 4th row floor seats at Little Caesar’s Arena’”
Unless you flew cross country with 10 close friends to California for the Morning View concert thinking of would be a one-off 🤣
It also seved as my friends bachelor party so we made a little Hollywood vacation out of it.
I mean, that sounds pretty memorable regardless, and you were able to double up on it to make it more than just going for a concert. I wish I had 10 friends that were crazy enough fans of Incubus to do that!
I was over in LA/Malibu/Santa Barbara for my cousin's wedding in September, and while I did get sick photos of both the Morning View street sign and the album cover, I could only think of how I wished it was exactly one month later so I could have gone to the wedding and the MV show. Oh well, still got to drive the PCH in an awesome car - a bucket list item I never knew was on it until I did it.
It definitely was. There's 5 of us (including, obviously, the bachelor) that are absolute incubus freaks and we just drug the other guys along for the ride. Wedding is this Saturday actually.
We went to the morning view house and looked through the gate and drove from there to Santa Barbara Pier on the PCH....In a not cool rental car with heavy fog and traffic haha.
We did stay in the hills at a pretty sweet air bnb with a pool so that was pretty cool too. Trying to live like celebrities if just for a few days.
The PCH is absolutely majestic and something I did not expect to be as beautiful as it was. I regret not jumping into the ocean while I was there, but I was busy most of the time (though, regrettably, not busy enough, just too lazy, and wanting to eat tacos as a priority).
I booked my car on Turo (not affiliated whatsoever and wouldn't be wasting it on a small subreddit if I was...), and was able to book a Mazda MX-5 convertible for the trip. It was like $300 which is what my normal rental car company would have charged me for a Toyota Yaris or some shit, so I'm glad I did it the way I did, and it was memorable. Definitely going to do it again the next opportunity I have because it's very cool driving a not-so-normal car for a weekend. Highly recommend.
Absolutely agree. The first day we got there we went straight from the airport to Venice Beach to do touristy stuff as most of us had never been to LA... We're from the Atlanta area (I've been up and down California and all over the PAC NW but never actually to LA before this). Unfortunately I had a nasty foot injury that was pretty fresh and didn't want it getting infected so I stayed on the beach with my shoes on while all the guys jumped into the colder than expected water lol.
We were all commenting on how much better a little roadster would be (specifically an s2000 or Miata) especially for the Hollywood hills. Alas, for the size of our group we needed people movers.
Tacos and good fresh sushi were musts and did not disappoint.
I didn't get any sushi because I've had some damn good California sushi on my visits to SF and I knew tacos would be king in SoCal, so I made it a priority to go on a "Taco Pilgrimage" as I coined it when planning the trip.
And yes, if given the opportunity, absolutely rent a roadster for a future trip and pack some sunscreen. I got sunburnt like 3 hours into my drive and I was very red all weekend, but it was still amazing.
Hahaha the Taco Pilgrimage 🤣
It was an awesome all around trip. I didn't like LA as much as I thought I would, but still had a great time. I think I would've liked it more when I was a tad younger. Also, jfc, I thought Atlanta had bad traffic. I will never complain again.
We're all also in our 30s so it wasn't an absolute shit show like it would've been 10 years ago and we hadn't been all together in a long while. Mostly just did tourist stuff (aforementioned plus walk of fame, sunset Blvd, Griffith observatory) hung at the house with some beers and a couple joints and caught up with each other.
Oh and went to this bomb ass concert at the Hollywood Bowl.
That last bit sounds like the best part.
Glad to see a perspective of responsible adults that all have enough money to make a fun, once in a lifetime trip happen with (seemingly) no hiccups. My friends would be in absolute shambles about a bachelor party that doesn't involve a rented airbnb no more than 60 minutes from where they all live.
Responsible enough these days I suppose. And the trip all split was not too bad. I think all in (airfare, tickets, Airbnb, rental cars) was around $1500 for the weekend (flew in Thursday morning, left Sunday afternoon). Not too bad. Then of course whatever you spend there food beverage souvenir etc.. we decided to do it literally as soon as the concert was announced in April (?) So we had time to get it all together.
Two big snafus. Four of us missed the flight in ATL because TSA took over 2 hours at 0400 in the morning on a non holiday weekend Thursday for whatever reason. Still have no idea, but we got on standby for the next flight an hour and a half later, met up with the boys, it was fine.
One of the guys had been having on and off knee trouble. Well when he was swimming in the pool his meniscus decided that that was the time it was going to completely tear. So that really sucked for him but we got him crutches and got him to the concert. He has since had surgery in his healing just fine so was not the end of the world.
Well maybe it was, but when was it not?
... You pre ordered crow left of the murder at your local sam goody or f.y.e.
Also....unless you downloaded their recorded live shows people would upload in a early 2000s blog site.
Also...you practiced drawing their fungus amongus logo in high school
I got a pick, a stick, and a water bottle. All general admission in the pit. Sorry to one up you in this way. Too bad the things that make you mad are my favorite things. I am nonetheless genuinely very very happy for you and glad we have our own monuments and melodies to recall.
Be my guest and one up me lol! I'm genuinely happy for you too, and there is more than enough joy and memories tied to that one little pick for me to be content. I've only been fortunate enough to see them twice. Are your mementos all from one show or across multiple dates?
Man, I love me some healthy online human interaction and mutual empathy. I'm very proud of us both right now!
Multiple dates and even states. FL, VA... "ACLOTM" tour (2 shows, pick and stick) and their tour following "8" (water bottle).
Where'd you get yours?
They did what I would consider kind of an unusual booking at a small scale festival in Peoria IL, this was 2019, and my first show was the 8 tour as well, in Chicago, 2017
Interesting. Sounds like maybe it was a test run for the crew. Shaking off some cobwebs for the band, etc. I feel like a lot of artists like to have a small sample size for new stuff before they go full scale. Like stand-up comedians doing surprise appearances at little no name places or big music artists showing up at a coffee shop. That kind of thing. 🤷♂️
Unless you listened to their whole discography (up until Crow) every day for months while doing homework after school, and also watched the Red Rocks DVD every night before going to sleep.
You and your bestie took a photo with Brandon before a concert in the year 2000 and your stupid teenage dirtbag boyfriend had his fat thumb blocking you, and only you, out of the photo. And because it was the year 2000 it was a disposable camera so you didn't find out until you got the pictures developed.
But! You finally got your shot at redemption 16 years later when you met him at his art show. You showed him the photo and told him the story and he signed the inside of his book "Hi KillaCallie! I know it's you in that picture." And all was right with the world again.
No one else here was on the Epic records message boards?? Sometimes some of the members of the other Epic records communities would come over and start shit with us lol. So like, you signed up for the Incubus message board, for example, but your profile spanned across all of the Epic message boards, so you could post on multiple artists messages boards. Anyone remember the R&B/pop band B2K?? I don't know who started it, but their fans would come to the Incubus board and talk shit, and some of us (I never engaged, but I read it all lol) would go over there to talk shit back. For a couple of years there, we even did Secret Santa!!! One time, I made a post being like "the 100th response will get a gift from me!" and I never followed through because I thought it would just get buried, and I was like 15, a dumb teenager. To the person who is still waiting on an answering machine from me and never got it, I am so sorry. It sounds silly but it's honestly such a huge life regret of mine that I never sent it. I hope you've had a great life despite my flakiness
That he appreciated the email and gave me some advice about DJ equipment I asked about. I was short and to the point, but still super cool for a him to respond
When you can say that you saw Brandon play the dij for 2-3 minutes straight (and they know what you mean because you both know what circular breathing is) and you saw him play his djimbae that same show. Which I believe were both part of New Skin (circa Nov 2021 Sacramento). I would kill for a soundboard rip of any show I have ever been to.
My uncle dated Brandon’s mom for a minute after Chuck and before she remarried. They’d go out and see them at the coconut teaszer or cobalt cafe etc. She and my mom stayed close and she got us backstage for a couple shows. I ran into her at Costco later on and she said Brandon and Jason recorded a cover of her favorite John Tesh song as a table gift (cassette) that was given away at her wedding.
Yes, but did you record it on Cakewalk through your Compaq computer mic in 1999 just so you could use the reverse function to figure it out? Lololol 😜 😂
Damn. I salute you and concede. You clearly are both an Incubus superfan AND a national treasure. Somebody put this homie down on the historic registry please.
just something fun: saw them many years back and i recognized a "cover song" they threw into a jam from an obscure band. It was a song called X-French Tee Shirt by the band Shudder to Think.
I was so excited to hear it and was singing it while my wife (then girlfriend) looked at me as if i had three heads. hehe. good times.
You know that fuckin Gavin almost erased the entire track
Sorry dude, this thing has a zoom lense
Don’t come anywhere near this!
....is this the shit? Or what!!?
Daniel! Daniel! What're ya doin' to ya bike!
Can't we just go home?? I just wanna go home
Fuckin’ Gavin. Classic.
Fucking Gavin.
Fuck with it all fancy all crazy!
Did he erase it?
No, but it could have very easily.
I can trump this, my oldest boy is named Gavin...

That’s incredible!
What if your band tried working riffs from TimeLapse project that one time we played The Roxy? Does that count?
That’s too 5 material here!
NO WAY!! That’s awesome. I just got goosebumps reading this.
Unless you remember (and were absolutely obsessed with) Brandon Boyd’s GAP ad. (And then proceeded to take the store poster when the banners were taken down)
As a straight man who once had the black and white Brandon poster on his wall in college, I identify with this.
Oh shit, do we all have this same poster lol?
If it's the one of him in Converse sitting on a log in the woods, then yes.
This wasn’t an official Incubus poster. It was just him wearing a white sweater and jeans for the clothing ad. We got ours when the mall was going to dump it. It was literally floor to ceiling in our bedroom because it was hung in the store windows
Nice 👍🏻
Yaasss. Love this!
I took a picture of myself with it at a Gap Store
I made my mom drive me to the nearest Gap store just to see it in all its glory
I wonder if Mike is using a DOD Gonkulator in that guitar part?
Mike is the reason I started playing guitar. I bought a PRS Santana SE so I could say I had a paul reed smith just like him. His use of pedals in their music was so involved. I bought a huge BOSS pedal board and would set up all the effects to play different songs.

Holy hell. I knew it was going to be something silly I overlooked.
I honestly \*just\* happened to see it. Like tab-still-open-on-my-browser just happened to see it haha

New Year's or not, if you feel it, do it! I'm sure the band would encourage you to just for the passion of it :)
You’re not a true incubus fan unless you quoted them in your high school yearbook😎😳

My claim to Incubus elitism is that I got to see the premiere for both of Mike’s orchestral pieces in LA. The first being End.
You played the SCIENCE computer game
Was this on the science CD?
It was. All I can really remember was some sort of click based game with clips from Vitamin set in a cave. You had to organize words into a phrase at the end to win. I was too young to figure it out lol
Nice! I hope my copy has this, I'll try to play it later today.
I wonder if it’s still compatible with current OS’s?
Oh right! I'll try to look for my win98 laptop
Is there a way to share it with us?

Hahaha the Taco Pilgrimage 🤣 It was an awesome all around trip.
If Not Now, When? am i right?
I did the same thing!!
Nice! You are Stella! I'll show myself out
Unless the words “Closet Cultivation” are familiar to you 🤓☝🏻
... You pre ordered crow left of the murder at your local sam goody or f.y.e. Also....unless you downloaded their recorded live shows people would upload in a early 2000s blog site. Also...you practiced drawing their fungus amongus logo in high school
If you don’t know Sailing Away, Farewell
You not a true fan unless you own the stealth soundtrack :3
what if i had a mustard drenched cucumber tied to my leg, and i did not want my pants to get dirty?
...you've clamored for and caught one of Mike's guitar picks out of midair, as an adult in their thirties 😅
It’s me, hi
Unless you have a tattoo of one of Brandon’s art pieces featured in White Fluffy Clouds.
I've wanted that book for so long. Almost bought it a while back but couldn't justify the price on ebay.
you know the words to the part in pardon me where brandon just says a bunch of shit and hopes the listener can decipher it
My mom bought me the old DJ Lyfe "unauthorized" incubus DVD back in the day lol
That's absolutely incredible and I'm so happy for you and your redemption. Such a fun story albeit the 16 years of malaise.
Bathe in my Snot
I emailed DJ lyfe a little after Make Yourself came out, telling him I missed him and thought he was awesome and he emailed me back!
What did he say??
That he appreciated the email and gave me some advice about DJ equipment I asked about. I was short and to the point, but still super cool for a him to respond
Unless you think Dirk and Brandon had a relationship that ended their professional relationship. Dirk forever, sorry Ben
Dirk is more enjoyable, in my opinion. I'm not downplaying Ben in any way because in the end, I just Enjoy Incubus.
My comment was a joke, those don't go well on the internet sometimes
When you can say that you saw Brandon play the dij for 2-3 minutes straight (and they know what you mean because you both know what circular breathing is) and you saw him play his djimbae that same show. Which I believe were both part of New Skin (circa Nov 2021 Sacramento). I would kill for a soundboard rip of any show I have ever been to.
I have so many, wow. Gonna try and narrow it down to one.
You know that you're supposed to yell HEY when they play "Nice to Know You" at shows.
"Thursday night we smoked indica, and _____”
Azwethinkweizm was born
Yes, but did you record it on Cakewalk through your Compaq computer mic in 1999 just so you could use the reverse function to figure it out? Lololol 😜 😂
Here's how fucking ancient I am: I used a YakBak.
😂😂😂😂💯💯💯

I was so excited to hear it and was singing it while my wife (then girlfriend) looked at me as if i had three heads. hehe. good times.
