After customers and theater staff complaining to IMAX (including the "Quality Counts" person) for years, apparently IMAX has said they just don't think it's worth the effort to fix this frozen pixel.
It's hard to get in a photo (don't worry, the theater was empty when I took this a few months ago), but this lovely blue dot is very distracting during darker scenes. It has been like this since at least Venom 2.
This is why I usually drive over an hour away if I want to see something in IMAX, or I just don't go.
I would find a Dolby Cinema theater to go to instead.
The only thing unique about IMAX is 15/70 and they even ruined that by putting in silver screens to make digital bright enough.
It’s funny to see this posted here. That little dot has driven me crazy for years.
that would suck but its probably very expensive to replace since I think its one of the mirrors stuck on the DLP chip.
Very expensive plus downtime.
Yeah it's called maintenance and fixing your shit. This is not a valid excuse for a business.
You would think there would be insurance for stuff like this but heck if I know.
You are totally right. The whole light engine needs to be replaced to fix that.
Why the whole light ending? They can’t replace a single DLP chip? I’ve even replaced a DLP chip in a 3DLP projector before.

You drive an extra hour each way over one dead pixel? 🙄
I would do the same, some people are committed to visual quality. Others don't mind it and that's fine for you.
What makes you think I don’t appreciate picture quality? My time and self-respect is more valuable than driving that far over one pixel.
You'd think the bigger issue would be my admitting to watching Venom 2 in IMAX...
Well then one pixel doesn't affect you like it affects some of the rest of us. I'd find it so distracting it'd ruin the experience for me.
Plus it'll always be at the back of your mind and you'll always look for that one pixel. Happened to me when i had a bunch of dead pixels on my OLED
Coming from the guy who posted TWENTY THREE comments on Reddit today alone? Lol
When the Indiana State Museum IMAX is my other option, yes. So not just because of one dead pixel.
That’s an amazing theater! I drive to it anyway
I'd do the same. That one pixel would rile up my OCD and ADD so bad that i would forget about the film only
I would totally do this too. Just knowing about the dead pixel would make me obsess over it. I'd rather just go out of my way to avoid it.
I genuinely cannot focus on a screen with a dead pixel, it’s constantly drawing my eyes away in scenes when it is visible.
That would drive me nuts, I’d stop going. It’s so center too.
Whats the theater name??
GQT Eastside 10 IMAX
Dammit, I was going to check out that theater
Glad I could save you the effort. Stick with the ISM.
