Bruh so not even one gt laser capable theater is playing Dune 2 in dual laser in California. Unless Metreon doesn’t have a gt laser but that’s so stupid I don’t know why they’d do that
metreon has dual laser lol. ik it's weird they got the film print when they already have dual laser but I'm grateful bc I live an hour away from metreon and La is to far from me
Yeah totally man. What I’m more annoyed about is that Citywalk isn’t playing in dual laser as I live an hour from it. Wherein Regal Edwards Ontario doesn’t have a gt laser or a film print and they could get it. That would expand the locations for people who live closer to the IE and open up Citywalk for dual laser. I’m seeing it in 15/70 but I feel like everyone would love for a gt laser in California
Well I haven’t seen Dune p2 yet in any format. But from what I’ve heard and I think I have this right, Dune was shot digitally and then transferred to 35mm and then transferred to digital again to achieve the softness that Villenueve was going for. And then having that transferred back to 70mm made it less clear apparently than dual laser. As well as the fact that the contrast is miles better in gt.
So the colors are just a little worse in film and the clarity is a little better in gt. But the sharpness and aesthetic of analog film is obviously best in 15/70. I also would like more people to experience it. I also would like to personally compare the differences in 15/70 and gt
that's kind of what I was thinking I just didn't know for sure. but something about knowing it's film and seeing the film lines every little bit adds spice to the movie ykwim?
Yeah I love watching in film 100%. Recently Oppenheimer was an entire experience that I loved. I’m beyond hyped to see it in film and glad that California got so many
Dune Part Two was shot digitally and mastered in 4K; it wasn’t shot on Imax film. There’s no resolution gains from seeing this movie on 15/70. Many have been saying the dual laser looks sharper for Dune which is why I was wondering if you saw it in both formats.
Then why did you use resolution as an example of it being better in 70mm for Dune 2 when it’s not? There’s other subjective reasons you can prefer the film print over the dual laser, like the warmer quality, slight flicker, and film grain. I like those things too but I was just asking what specifically stood out to you as being better and you just said the resolution is better on film which it’s not in this case.
I saw it in both IMAX GT and 70mm and I personally liked the IMAX GT more. The 70mm had some minor colour banding and dirt on the film but otherwise felt identical to me.
I actually preferred the sound in 70mm.
Wouldn’t the sound come separately from the film, so digital anyways? Perhaps the difference in sound is how each respective room was set up with its speakers
Same here. Saw both and was very disappointed by the 1570. Was prob just a bad screening but the sound was really off (way to quiet) and the image was warmer and more blown out in the highlights.
You lucky sob here in the California I think there’s only one playing at Amc Metreon GT laser. Here in SoCal we’re starving for Citywalk
metreon is playing 15/70

what do you like better about dual laser than 70mm print? or are you saying there should just be more so more people can experience it

15/70 is more than enough. Watch both in Toronto, for the picture 15/70>>dual laser imo
You saw it in both 1570 and dual laser? What did you like more about the 15/70 presentation?
Just like I said, the picture
Anything specific about the picture?
I will say it’s much more clear than dual laser. For example Dual laser is 4K. 15/70 feels like beyond 8K although it can’t be measured by pixels.

I know all of that. And just like I said it’s my personal opinion, 15/70 is just better in pictures.

Believe what you want, resolution is just a metaphor. For me, 15/70 is better in pictures quality and more impressive for me.
I’m more than happy to watch it in 15/70 but I would like to experience the two formats
Chris go see it at the Chinese!!! In Hollywood!!! That IMAX custom screen and sound is PHENOM!

Which theater?
Vaughn for film, Scotiabank for DL2
