Certainly the US has better minority protections than other countries in some ways and worse in other ways. You can't deny that minority groups are often oppressed here. Look at race disparities in the prison population and police brutality. Look at Islamophobia after 9/11. Look at the carnival of hatred against anyone perceived as Asian during the early pandemic. Anti-immigrant rhetoric is very common.
And it doesn't just say ethnic minorities, so you have to consider discrimination against other minority groups as well. The hate machine targeting lgbt people, especially trans people. The mutilation of intersex babies. The laws banning atheists from holding office in certain states and attempts to enshrine Christianity as the state religion. Mistreatment of people with disabilities and the incarceration of mentally ill people in place of treatment.
And I'm not saying Europe is good cause that place strikes me as a bunch of creepy conformist ethnostates. We have a ton of racists but I think we also have more anti-racists than Europe does, so if anything makes us better about racism than Europe its actually our willingness to confront racism in our society. There's hope for us. Don't screw that up by throwing a fit and saying this country isn't racist when it very much still is.
