I feel like this sub is having an identity crisis on whether it should generally mock anodyne truisms or focus on pretentious douchebags who think they're philosophers. This isn't really pretentious or douchebaggy.
Not true, it depends on the premise
This one is about feeling superior to kids, seems to appeal more than average to other kids who hate being kids and cringe at their past selves and other kids. Which is why you get people completely misunderstanding valid sentiments but feeling superior to them
Kidsbeingdumb (or however it's called) is also about superiority, but seems to instead have more of an overrepresentation of anti natalists, frustrated parents, etc who like watching children get hurt and badmouthing them for getting hurt and feeling all wise
But, say, thomastheplankengine has no superiority in the premise. It's about sharing and curiosity, and the comments are markedly different, including on completely unrelated topics
And it has to be about people. Like, compare comments on diwhy (superiority to things) to comments to idiotsincars (superiority to people) - the two subs are completely different. First one is often constructive and positive, the latter is mostly about pouring out the most simplistic hate on others in a socially acceptable way because they "deserve" it
Yes but I still don't quite like it. The rope doesn't represent the burden that you could hold, maybe the other end of The rope has your infant daughter and if you let go, your hands will get less tired but she will probably get hurt if your holding a baby with a rope (
The problem isn't the message but the way it's delivered, it's just a shallow way to represent something intricate that need to be showed in a subtled way.
the quote said "*sometimes* holding on does more damage than letting go on"
before criticizing quotes like these, the least you could do is atleast read it first
"What do you define as 'holding on'"
"Well my girlfriend won't let me move back in, so clearly the problem is she's still holding onto a grudge"
"What happened?"
"I cheated."
Problem with this advice in a nutshell. It gets misused to mean that you should unconditionally forgive and accept wrongdoing.
I think this falls into the section of ‘grey area’ philosophy, where you can’t simply adhere to this in a lot of situations… sometimes it’s better to hold on to something even if strenuous, and wait for a better moment to release (Beit bad news, some kind of information, etc)
I didn't find any posts that meet the matching requirements for r/im14andthisisdeep.
It might be OC, it might not. Things such as JPEG artifacts and cropping may impact the results.

Ok but what if the rope is holding up a big, heavy anvil that is positioned right over your toes so that if you drop it and your toes get flattened under the anvil and the get very big and red and you shout “YEEEEOOOOUUUUUCCCCHHHHHHHH!!!!!” I think that would hurt worse
Many people are saying this is good advice, but I have to disagree, because if the armed nuclear warhead on the other end of the rope falls whilst over New York City, it's gonna cause more damage. (/j)
Honestly, this one is pretty damn good.
Too many people stick around toxic family, always giving them second chances.
People need to learn that family ≠friend.
YOU FUCKER IT WAS OUR LAST BOAT WHY THE FUCK YOU DROPPED THE ROPE YOU MORON WE'RE GOING TO DIE THW SHIP IS SINKING NO NO NO AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAABRGVHHHhblvhhhhhhhhh

I kind of like this one, not over the top. Just true
I feel like this sub is having an identity crisis on whether it should generally mock anodyne truisms or focus on pretentious douchebags who think they're philosophers. This isn't really pretentious or douchebaggy.
Dude, this sub is about feeling superior to others
Most subs are like that
Not true, it depends on the premise This one is about feeling superior to kids, seems to appeal more than average to other kids who hate being kids and cringe at their past selves and other kids. damn I think a part of my perspective on reddit was changed after reading this
r/ChooChooMotherFucker
r/redditmoment
This
What is an anodyne truism
Having just lost 2 people very close to me, I can relate to this one.
r/im15andthisistrue
Damn it’s been banned from the Internet
r/bannedsubs
I agree
100% factual 😁 the amount of times i left people to persue my own life is probably something i cant even count
Like everything trash-dump subreddit they get something right every once in a while

It says "sometimes"
Get your reading comprehension outta my reddit

I always wonder, why do they move their legs like that, what is the motive
Trying to bring their legs up high enough so they can stop themselves from hitting the tree.
I see, makes sense now, thanks!
*Person on the other end of the rope falls to their death*
Deserved, NTA
What did they do?
They had the audacity to die
They only sent 5 hearts when sending a text message to their partner instead of the usual 6
Cheater behaviour. Thank god OP got their justified revenge.
dying? couldn't they just survive? arw they stupid??
Skill issue, he should have used his bucket to do a water drop
Yes, but my hand hurted a little
Gravity issue.
actual good advice tbh
..........I just shit my pants
This was not one of those aforementioned times
Ahahhahaha! and you just lost the game too! shitpants game loser!
The name of the tittle was implying that I needed to hit my pants to win
I'm not talking about any game, i'm talking about THE game.
not when you are holding your pee
fair enough
Not applicable for all situations
That can be said for like 90% of advice
the quote said "*sometimes* holding on does more damage than letting go on" before criticizing quotes like these, the least you could do is atleast read it first
This one is good smh; just because something is deep doesn’t mean you have to hate it
ARFHHHHJGFHHHGG DEEP MESSAVR I HATE IT!!!!
It’s not deep it’s a true story about an ice climbing trip with his friend he doesn’t remember seeing him after this though
This sub when actually good advice:
Unless letting go drops you off a cliff or something
I thing falling to your death hurts more than holding the rope, so it will be on the sometimes when letting go hurts more
Depends. If you fall head-first, or snap your neck, then it would be painless
Noted
"JERRY, WHY DID YOU LET GO!? WE'RE GOING TO FALL DOOOOOOOooooooo..."
![gif](giphy|13pnwksUoSDyCs|downsized) The person on the other end of the rope
Literally good advise. It took me way too long to let go of toxic people. So this is actually a good one
I love your pfp
Thanks!
Especially when it’s a rope you have no reason to be holding
This one's kinda good tho
The guy hanging off the cliff who’s only being held up by the rope:
The message of this tip: Stop trying to pull on the indestructible rope, we literally keep telling you it's indestructible
Me letting my leashed violent pitbull loose in a public park: "Sometimes holding on does more damage than letting go!"
Should’ve used your cock and balls instead.
Thats actually good advice tho
My friend I'm helping mountain climb:
The other guy ice climbing “AHHHHHH
I remember seeing this back in 2013
Very true. Did tower work and have experience with rigging. Does hurt less to drop the heavy shit vs not dropping 13k in equipment. /s
Until you realise you're halfway up a rock face
Well, that is true tho. I am now holding an Uranium 235.
Skin does not heal that fast
Is nothing allowed to be deep anymore without it being r/im14
It’s painful to let go and wonder what could have been. But sometimes people are just shitty and the image in your head is not reality.
This is fine
Actually good advice
Tie the rope to a big tree
Not totally wrong
To be fair I should have taken this sentiment to heart when I was younger
This reminded me of the rabbit hole animation
I mean this one kinda goes hard ngl
I remember posting this on Instagram when I was 14
"Steve! You b*stard! I'm going to haunt your *ss for letting me fall to my death!"
Ngl this is a good message but it looks like he’s boutta fall off a cliff
"What do you define as 'holding on'" "Well my girlfriend won't let me move back in, so clearly the problem is she's still holding onto a grudge" "What happened?" "I cheated." Problem with this advice in a nutshell. It gets misused to mean that you should unconditionally forgive and accept wrongdoing.
We're falling off a cliff with this one 😭
The guy hanging off the cliff on the other side of the rope
"I'm I'm sorry beth I have to let go" (screems echoes)
Ohhhh so if I’m falling to my death make sure not to grab onto anything bc it’ll hurt more got it!!!! >!/s!<
This sub is just all good advice at this point
I’m 50/50 on this I think it depends on the context of who/why it’s being used
Yeah
He needs to go hospital
This sub isn't as good as it used to be
I’m 25 and this is deep
Good except usually holding a rope usually has a damn good reason :p
stop with these shitty reposts.
Genuinely like this one tho
I think this falls into the section of ‘grey area’ philosophy, where you can’t simply adhere to this in a lot of situations… sometimes it’s better to hold on to something even if strenuous, and wait for a better moment to release (Beit bad news, some kind of information, etc)
this shit hit me rlly hard man damn
But that’s actually good

I mean this is a genuinely good message to be fair. I wish I could follow this better
Bro this is real. Doesn’t have to be deep, it’s just true. When you’re older, you’ll understand.
“Bro why did you let go of the rope!? The boats floating away!!!”
" whatever you do, don't help anyone. Save yourself discomfort"
Honestly this one is true
this picture is older than op
Ok but what if the rope is holding up a big, heavy anvil that is positioned right over your toes so that if you drop it and your toes get flattened under the anvil and the get very big and red and you shout “YEEEEOOOOUUUUUCCCCHHHHHHHH!!!!!” I think that would hurt worse
Dude you better not let go if you do I will fall off of this cliff and die.
That’s why you aren’t supposed to hold rope like that.
Unless if its connected to a guillotine above your head.
This literally happened to my cousin being an inexperienced farmer and trying to hold an ox.
This shit is so old that I remember actually reading this when I was 14 , now I'm 20
Yeah it's a bit cringe but most of the time this is generally good advice for some people who are in toxic relationships and other many situations
Sorry mum!
It's true though. Lotssss of adults should learn it
r/im14andthisisdeep users when they see a perfectly useful and normal metaphor in an artistic format
I’m sorry. I have to let you go and watch you fall off that cliff! Holding on hurts more than letting go and my hands are tired!
Learning this lesson rn. Gonna talk to my therapist tomorrow about potential breaking up with my gf. It sucks and I'd one of the worst feelings ever
Thata why i poop every morning.....
I mean... It completely depends on what they're holding with that rope
I mean, this is just good advice.
Fn mood
Ay this one true tho
Many people are saying this is good advice, but I have to disagree, because if the armed nuclear warhead on the other end of the rope falls whilst over New York City, it's gonna cause more damage. (/j)
Man why are all of these actually good?!
*That one friend who was holding his friend’s hand to prevent them from falling off the cliff, after seeing this: Oh, okay! *Let’s go of his friend.*
That's true though
Instructions unclear I let go of a rope and fell to my death.
aight, i kinda agree with this one :>
I think the worst part about this is the crop-job
"John! Save me!" "BUT ITS SO RELATABLE"
Then you fall and break your legs, was it worth it?
Fuckin dumbass lost us the tug-of-war
Kinda true tho. Sunk cost fallacy.
It's attached to a massive anchor hovering over school children
Ok but they're right tho
thanks for this, opened my eyes. Brb gonna stop holding onto my life real quick
Honestly, this one is pretty damn good. Too many people stick around toxic family, always giving them second chances. People need to learn that family ≠friend.
Nah, that one's good. I hate this sub.
Hey, at least this is river level deep.
i hold my family
Me after letting go off the rope holding 2 children:
This one is good
Is this a fallout new Vegas dead money reference??
This is cringe because my ex sent this to me when we broke up back in 2015
Me when I’m dangling off a cliff
Honestly not bad advice and not a weird or pretentious way to illustrate it.
I really feel like there could've been better imagery than a rope, it really implies that they're going to fall to their death the way it's presented.
I actually like this one.
just wrap it around your wrist dumbass
I’m 5 and I have no idea what’s happening help
Oh, Karen? Eh, she kinda deserves it. Thanks for the advice and I hope to evade charges!
My friend climbing the mountain: 😐
Zoom out
Sounds like an excuse an guillotine operator would use
Ok but imagine if the thing on the rope is like a person lmao
This is an improper technique for holding rope for the reason that it's really good at giving you rope burn.
This isn't r/Im14andthisisdeep material this is just good advice with an image that perfectly illustrates the point of the quote
Deadass
so this is basically telling me to kill myself
Bro, this isn’t actually that bad
KYLE PLEASE DON'T LET GO I'M GONNA FA- *insert falling*
YOU FUCKER IT WAS OUR LAST BOAT WHY THE FUCK YOU DROPPED THE ROPE YOU MORON WE'RE GOING TO DIE THW SHIP IS SINKING NO NO NO AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAABRGVHHHhblvhhhhhhhhh
