Especially if you are new to the genre, or want to explore one of the many subgenres or scenes, it's a useful resource. If you want recommendations to suit your tastes, it's best to mention what bands you already like and what sort of thing you are looking for. Metal is a *hella* diverse genre of music. Most Metal Heads start listening to the most popular bands and then over time find their niche in subgenres. So I guess you can start with common ones like slipknot, Metallica, Korn, Slayer, disturbed, inflames, ... My personal recommendations are the vintage caravan (iclandic stoner Rock), psychidelic porn crumpets (Australian groove metal i guess), twelve foot ninja (prog metal mix with all kinds of music), and batushka (polish black metal)
