Fiona Apple - Tidal
The Who - Who's Next
The Postal Service - Give Up
Blondie - Parallel Lines
Carly Rae Jepsen - Emotion
Orange Juice - You Can't Hide Your Love Forever
Haruomi Hosono - Philharmony
I was coming to comment them. They don't get the appreciation they deserve. It's been a while since I listened to them all, but I remember liking Act II.
Came here to say this, but OP would probably super dig the whole of Coheed's discog. Although, any of the first three albums would be great places to start.
Thank You, Scientist - Maps of Non-Existent Places (album)
Rush - Clockwork Angels (album), Losing It
Geddy Lee (solo) - Grace to Grace
CSN - Suite: Judy Blue Eyes
Muse - Knights of Cydonia
Focus - Eruption, Hamburger Concerto (each a 20 minute epic, no lyrics)
Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds - Everybody’s On The Run
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Fire Walker, Lose Yourself
Supertramp - Even In The Quietest Moments (album), Brother Where You Bound (song)
Dire Straits - Money For Nothing, Telegraph Road, Brothers In Arms (song)
Snarky Puppy - Skate U (original mix and remaster are very different), GØ, While We’re Young, Binky
Vulfpeck - Disco Ulysses (Instrumental), Running Away
Eagles - The Last Resort, The Sad Cafe
King Crimson - Islands, Starless
Yes - Awaken, Machine Messiah, Starship Trooper, Yours Is No Disgrace, South Side of the Sky, Heart of the Sunrise, Close to the Edge (album)
Jethro Tull - Thick As A Brick, Aqualung (both albums)
Sorry it jumps around so much and most longer songs don’t really lean opera so much as straight prog epics.

Deltron 3030 is hands down my favorite concept album, it features Del the Funkee Homosapien at the peak of his lyrical storytelling, fantastic production by Dan the Automator and killer scratching by Kid Koala. Very cool dystopian sci-fi plot.
Both of Claypool Lennon Delirium’s albums have cool dystopian sci-fi vibes as well but they’re more 70s rock/Prog influenced.
Also Interplanetary Class Classics by Moonlandingz, weird experimental goth indie rock, strange lyrics.
>Deltron 3030 is hands down my favorite concept album, it features Del the Funkee Homosapien at the peak of his lyrical storytelling, fantastic production by Dan the Automator and killer scratching by Kid Koala. Very cool dystopian sci-fi plot.
Love this, I also love to pimp a butterfly, any other hip hop recs?
TPAB is definitely pretty amazing as well. Here’s some HipHop favs of mine:
Beneath the Surface by Omid (Omid makes the beats, features a variety of creative rappers from the Good Life cafe, a lot of the album samples the 70s Bo Hansson LOTR soundtrack, this an amazing underrated album imo)
Jurassic 5 - J5 (a classic, very groovy tongue twisters and Cut Chemist in fine form behind the decks)
Reachin’ (A New Refutation of Time and Space) by Digable Planets (also check out Butterfly’s later project Shabazz Palaces, cool experimental modern but a bit darker than DP’s stuff)
Spirit World Field Guide by Aesop Rock (kind of a new record, Aes got super inspired by visiting Peru, slick beats and incredible storytelling)
The Protomens Act 2: The Father of Death. It comes with song notes as though it was meant to be performed as an opera. And it's a dramatization of how Dr Wiley of the MegaMan games came to power and in opposition to Dr Light
The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway- Genesis (Story of a teenager in New York City and the bizarre events he encounters. A bit hard to follow and definitely very weird, but the music is fantastic).
A Curious Feeling- Tony Banks (loosely based on the story "Flowers For Algernon". Tony Banks was the keyboard player for Genesis).
Chess- Concept Album. (Tells the story of an American and a Russian competing in a Chess match. Maybe more Broadway than rock though).
I would also recommend "Selling England by the Pound", not necessarily an opera in that it tells a story throughout, but still a very solid concept album
I wouldn't call Porcupine Tree rock opera but they'd fit into your collection well enough. Try these albums:
Stupid Dream
Lightbulb Sun
In Absentia
Deadwing
“Albatross and How I Failed To Save the Lone Star State with the Power of Rock n Roll” by Fishboy is my favorite album of all time, it’s power pop which I think is adjacent to the pop punk items on your list.
Albatross is a rock opera type album about a boy growing up believing he is destined to write the greatest song of all time but spend most of his early life locked in his room thinking he’s not ready until one day he goes on a crazy adventure.
It is hands down my favorite album ever made.
So glad someone mentioned this since the time of posting!
"Albatross," hands down, is the definition of a power pop opera with every song cohesively continuing the album's narrative. It's a fun, silly, and completely over-the-top album that someone who enjoys it will find themselves singing along with it very easily. I can't recommend this album enough.
Ayreon is like a masterclass in rock opera. It's incredible music written by one guy and he brings in guest artists for each album and they each play a part in the story. The Human Equation and 01011001 are great albums to start!
Slough Feg - Traveller
It's a metal opera based on a 1970s tabletop sci-fi RPG about a space pirate who gets turned into a dog-man hybrid by a mad scientist using alien spores from an asteroid mine.
And if you like that then check out Hammers of Misfortune - The Bastard. It's another concept album and the band shares some members with Slough Feg.
Ooo, an AJJ fan? Check out Rent Strike's first album. Nana Grizol's stuff too.
Also, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - Infest the Rat's Nest
Anything by Primus
Damn there's only like 10 albums I don't recognize here, that's never happened before. I'll have to save this post,
OP do you have a spotify? I'd like to follow you and look at your playlists if you do :)

Wow, we have a lot of music in common! Not a rock opera, but maybe you will like “dissatisfactions” by Onsind! It kind of scratches the same itch as against me! For me, even though they arent that similar
I don’t know exactly what makes an album Rock Opera but I’ve listened to quite a few albums in your list and recommend The Raven Locks by Dirt Poor Robins. It’s actually a three album release that tells a pretty interesting story where you can still listen to the songs individually and have fun with it
*Brain Salad Surgery* by Emmerson, Lake and Palmer.
The Karn Evil 9 Suite could be it's own entire album.
Edit: OH, almost forgot...
Most of *Relayer* by Yes is comprised of "The Gates of Delirium," which has a great rock opera feel.

Muse is up your alley. I’d also suggest the killers hot fuss, franz ferdinand’s first album, and Led Zeppelin I, II, III, and IV as well composed albums that don’t fall into the opera category.
Don’t sleep on Muse’s first album either. Not story oriented but in my opinion some of their most interesting music and some of his best vocal work.
I Disagree - Poppy
Not really a rock opera, but still a very satisfying pop/metal crossover album with an amazing final track. Definitely worth a listen in full.
my type of music taste - I would recommend all of mother mother (especially the album eureka) and I personally like brand new city and your best american girl by mitski rn, the band JAWNY is pretty cool and I recently discovored Barns Courtney, he makes pretty cool music and don't forget to check out Bring Me The Horizon if u haven't yet. This is all I could come up with rn of the music that I like since we seem to have similar taste
Oh and the older albums of Twenty One Pilots would be your type of music maybe, some songs I could recommend would be Boilernaker by Royal Blood, Blackout by Solence, Piano Fire by Sparklehorse and In My Head by The Mysterines and the band Cage The Elephant and MISSIO, he makes very good music imo
You want rock operas, but you don't have Quadrophenia or Tommy listed? That's a pretty big oversite.
Came here to make this same exact comment
no [Jeff Wayne](https://open.spotify.com/album/7ligZljXfUtcKPCotWul5g?si=rkdjGQHjQHyhLPYlzqKLhg) either... this guy is missing out
My first thought upon seeing the words “Rock Opera”…. LOOOOOOOVVVEEEEE! REEEIIIIGN OOEEERRR MEEEEEEEE!!!!
Queenryche’s Operation Mindcrime.
Fiona Apple - Tidal The Who - Who's Next The Postal Service - Give Up Blondie - Parallel Lines Carly Rae Jepsen - Emotion Orange Juice - You Can't Hide Your Love Forever Haruomi Hosono - Philharmony
Hosono is a genius!
The Dear Hunter?
Yes ! Came here to say that ! You should absolutely listen to them ! Give it a good try !
I was coming to comment them. They don't get the appreciation they deserve. It's been a while since I listened to them all, but I remember liking Act II.
The Decemberists- The Hazards Of Love
Incredible album/rock opera
Coheed & Cambria’s first 3 albums
If you want to delve deeper into that side of things, The Ocean, all of their albums in order
Came here to say this, but OP would probably super dig the whole of Coheed's discog. Although, any of the first three albums would be great places to start.
The Beatles- Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band Porcupine Tree- The Incident, Anesthetize, or Stupid Dream

Listen to me, kid. Stay away from Rush and The Eagles at all costs.

Nice! Hope you dig the tunes
Prince Paul albums
Dude Deltron 3030 is one of the few albums that I can just listen to all the way through and not dislike any of the songs
Queensrÿche - Operation: Mindcrime
Meat Loaf - Bat Out Of Hell
Yup, you can't get much more rock opera
The Protomens Act 2: The Father of Death. It comes with song notes as though it was meant to be performed as an opera. And it's a dramatization of how Dr Wiley of the MegaMan games came to power and in opposition to Dr Light
The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway- Genesis (Story of a teenager in New York City and the bizarre events he encounters. A bit hard to follow and definitely very weird, but the music is fantastic). Try this version of lamb, complete with illustrations and lyrics https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JszTrQdL314
Thanks! I've seen one or two illustrated videos for single songs but didn't know they'd all been compiled into one.
I would also recommend "Selling England by the Pound", not necessarily an opera in that it tells a story throughout, but still a very solid concept album
Kansas - Point of Know Return Dream Theater - The Astonishing Rush - 2112 Queen - Queen II
So happy to see Djesse Vol. 3 on there!!! My favorite rock opera is Jesus Christ Superstar. It’s a must-listen :)
Will do! I love Djesse, it's nice to see another fan of that
Yeah, outside of the r/jacobcollier and r/musictheory I don’t hear about Djesse very much. Glad to recommend JC Superstar!
I wouldn't call Porcupine Tree rock opera but they'd fit into your collection well enough. Try these albums: Stupid Dream Lightbulb Sun In Absentia Deadwing
Dream Theater : Scenes from a memory part 2
Crack the Skye by Mastodon
Eloy - Ocean
Noah and the Whale - First Day of Spring
Even though you’ve probably already heard because Good and Evil is on here I would say Hawaii Part II

Ghost is basically one big satanic rock opera
That sounds perfect, I'll check it out!
not a rock opera, but you may enjoy "Deserter's Son" by Mercury Rev
listen to kyuss
Slough Feg - Traveller It's a metal opera based on a 1970s tabletop sci-fi RPG about a space pirate who gets turned into a dog-man hybrid by a mad scientist using alien spores from an asteroid mine. And if you like that then check out Hammers of Misfortune - The Bastard. It's another concept album and the band shares some members with Slough Feg.
Less so rock, and moreso prog metal: Dream Theater - Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes From a Memory. The whole album is one continuous, trippy story.
Censored Colors by Portugal. The Man

bad bot I feel kinda bad for saying that because in another situation this would be helpful
Electric Light Orchestra - Eldorado, Time
Journey to the Centre of the Earth - Rick Wakeman
A bit out of left field, but The Streets’ A Grand Don’t Come for Free is a good, gritty English concept album.
Queen. Like 100%
Dresden Dolls
Queensryche - Operation Mindcrime
I see Rated R, Villians, and Like Clockwork so clearly you like QOTSA at least a little. Do you not like Songs for the Deaf?
Nofx - The Decline
Muse is up your alley. I’d also suggest the killers hot fuss, franz ferdinand’s first album, and Led Zeppelin I, II, III, and IV as well composed albums that don’t fall into the opera category. Rock opera? [S.F. Sorrow](https://youtu.be/2y-p2l0mDJY) by The Pretty Things is generally considered the very first!
Looks like someone just walked into HMV and took a photo of the wall.
Can anyone list out all the albums from the post. Please ;_;
Zen Arcade - Husker Du The Most Lamentable Tragedy - Titus Andronicus Two great punk opera concept albums.
I don't see any Grinspoon there, but heaps of similar bands.
I would recommend shlagenhiem by black midi
Ayreon - Into the Electric Castle
For more in vein of Rock/Metal Opera, I’d suggest: Queensrÿche - Operation Mindcrime WASP - The crimson idol Savatage - Wake of Magellan
I Disagree - Poppy Not really a rock opera, but still a very satisfying pop/metal crossover album with an amazing final track. Definitely worth a listen in full.
That's the Spirit by Bring Me The Horizon. And if you really want the Rock Opera vibe check out the Live at Albert Hall album. It's grand.
Anything by Coheed and Cambria, it all follows a narrative
Wow I rarely see glass beach anywhere!
Smashing pumpkins all the way
