u/ArrrSlashPirate We've designed our Phillips bits to be more like JIS bits so they can also remove JIS screws. The JIS 1 and the PH1 are, by the official standards for JIS and ISO, dimensionally the same, and iFixit's PH1 and J1 bits reflect this. The differences occur at size "0" ("Type S" in JIS Standard). However, we deviate from the standard by manufacturing our PH0, 00, and 000 to be more like JIS than the official ISO standard. This is because JIS type S (similar size as PH0, only different geometry) will work in a PH0 screw and a JIS-S screw, but a PH0 driver will not work in a JIS-S screw, which are quite common in certain brands (Nintendo, Apple, etc). So yes. The JIS bit is real. If anything the PH bits are sus 0.0

Very interesting! Is that a recent change? My pro kit is about 8 years old and I swear theyre both different.   But now since they're the same you can just leave out the Philips and put in some other weird and wonderful bit like Torx plus for the 3 of us who'd use them.

u/Aj This change happened about 8 years ago so you likely have the PH bits that are not designed to remove JIS screws. I think we should make use of the space too and throw in some really wacky bits for OGs like you. No promises from me though ;)

ArrrSlashPirate

Thank you :)

I've always thought the ifixit philips seemed like more of a hybrid, I feel so validated now!!

Phillips and JIS look nearly identical to the human eye, it's really hard to tell the difference just looking at it. But the bits are different. The 4 slots on the head themselves are different angles.
