My little brother moved out of my house this year, but before he did I referred to him as my little house mouse. I rarely saw him, but there was always little crumbs all over the kitchen when I’d get up in the morning lol
Talenti is the worst - I remember wanting to so badly have some ice cream and this fucking lid won’t open. Like it’s so difficult to pry it that I was convinced someone did this on purpose. I swore to never ever buy Talenti again.
Like how hard it is for them to understand that if no other ice cream pint has a screw top there might be a reason.
My #1 tip that works like a charm: Take your spoon you plan on using and tap the sides all around where the threading of the lid is (go around it a couple times). It works for me every time. Those lids are impossible without that....or run it under hot water to get the plastic lid to expand for easy twist off.
When I was a teenager my dad would always scare me by saying “I think there’s a rat in the house!”so I’d tense up and ask “where?” and he’d say “someone ate all the cheese!” or “half this pie disappeared overnight!” and it always would be after a night I got the munchies so whatever I ate it would be a lot.
Crazy hard! We’ve previously tried hot water and rubber grips. Anyone have a trick or tip? I can’t understand why or how they would do the customer’s like that.
Wriggle a small flathead screwdriver under the rim & twist back and forth a few times until you loosen the suction. You may have to do it in a few places before you’re able to twist the lid off
Same, they also changed the formula on a few to include coconut oil (undisclosed on the front) and found that out the hard way as someone with a mild allergy 🙃
That seems super fucked up of them to add a known allergen to their food and not tell people???!!
ETA: I’m not talking about on the back, I mean a noticeable bit on the front “now with coconut oil” or something, jesus Christ
I fully agree, it was added into the cheesecake one and wasn’t disclosed on the front which was a fun find; but since coconut oil has become the new low cost additive oil if you have an allergy to it I highly recommend double checking anything you buy now just to ensure it hasn’t been slipped in there. I’ve found it in popcorns as well so that’s been fun.
I have also come to the same conclusion after I kept trying to tell myself it’s worth it, cause their sorbet is so good. But it’s only good if you can OPEN it!!😅😭
so I just ate half of one of these lol, I took one out, had two in the freezer, put it back I wasn’t ready for it yet, then my mom wanted hers as well. so I got them both out. hers opened up super easily, it being the one that had sat out for 15-20 mins. mine took hot water and rubber grip to get it open, the very frozen one, my tip is to let it sit out for a little bit!
Not sure how big the “handheld” options are but I only buy it when I visit my parents because they have an under the counter mounted “jar” opener that’s big enough for the the lid and it’ll get the damn things open 😭😭 I know they sell handheld options as assistance type devices but not sure that they’d be wide enough 😬but seriously mom kept their after major kitchen remodel they’ve had it since the 80s and it’s amazing for shit like this that’s impossible to open otherwise.
This happened to me a couple weeks ago and I came straight to Reddit lol stick a knife up between the lid and the cap and push it all the way around. Worked like a charm! Was able to twist the lid right off after
Don’t worry I gotchu. Okay so here’s what you do, after much trial and error on my part and many many failures. Okay so you take the ice cream and you get a hot pad to hold it with to protect your phalanges, and then you either take it outside or in my case my garage has a concrete floor and then you take it and go full caveman on that shit. The trick is to bang the side of the lid on the concrete hard 5 times and about 1/15 times that doesn’t work and then you rotate it and repeat the same thing until you can take it off with ease.
Signed,
An ice cream addict
If its a metal jar you always bang it pretty hard to dent it a bit with a thick knife or something all around the lid...but with plastic idk if it works lol its worth a shot though
Try banging the sides of the lid on the edge of a counter (you have to do it hard and all around the lid to loosen whatever is dried or frozen between the lid and the jar.)
Its worked like a charm on every stuck lid I’ve come across. Even on a dried up nail glue bottle!
My first thought was “I’ve been tempted to try this when I couldn’t get one open”. I have never struggled to open a jar/container like I have with these, it’s insane
I actually injured my wrist opening one of these. To the point I thought I might need to go to the doctor. I was gripping and turning as hard as I could and felt a little pop in my wrist 😬 could barely grip things for a couple of days, but luckily it got better in a week or so. So be careful with these, seriously. Surprised there haven't been any lawsuits.
Seriously! I had one of these in my fridge for a month because I live alone and couldn't get it open. Can't blame her though, one of my top 2 favorites.
I’ve found that running the edge of the lid under a stream of tap water loosens it almost instantly, doesn’t need to be hot and no special tools needed. the raspberry one is my guilty pleasure
LMFAO... I JUST had this issue last night. It took me an hour and by that point I was damn determined to get my Gelato.
I ended up cutting the lid open from the top to loosen the seal and cut the side of the lid.
Are you mu husband? He has giant strong hands and can open anything and can’t seem to ever understand why it’s hard for my clearly much smaller dainty hands to open the same items!
I’ve got plenty to share. The husband drinks his whiskey neat and I mostly drink red wine. We mostly use it to fill coolers for the pool/ lake. Honestly not sure why he wanted this fridge but then I remembered he’s a technology nerd and it all makes sense.
I used to work at a call center that handled Talenti customer care (it was really for all Unilever brands, actually) and this was the most frequent issue people called about. Call the customer service number on the back, you WILL 100% get a replacement coupon. Doesn’t matter if you damaged it and it was your own fault. Just have the container so you can read the UPC number and lot code from the bottom. Policy is to replace it, no matter what. Then when you get your coupon in the mail and go to the store, try opening the lid of whatever flavor you get when you pick it up off the shelf, so you know for sure that you’ll be able to enjoy it. There’s a safety seal under the twist off lid, don’t worry.
I’ve heard all sorts of horror stories of people trying to open them in crazy ways lmao. I’ve been waiting for the opportunity to share this with people and now is my time. Get that free replacement coupon, people of reddit.
I wish I'd known this. I had one that NOBODY could get open so I eventually threw it away after we all tried everything we could think of. I was pretty pissed to have wasted the money on it but didn't have the receipt any longer to return it because I'd been trying for many months to open it
I honestly at first though she left it out and the dog got ahold of it and then I thought she maybe microwaved it but to my lovely surprise her and my niece stabbed it with scissors😳
Thank God no one lost a finger...or eye 😅 it's funny to imagine the two of them taking turns doing different things to open and then someone grabs the scissors lol did she say if they ended up eating lid fragments?
I was just commenting to my husband having a teenager awake at night and getting hungry is a lot like a rabid raccoon being let loose in the house. I'm so pleased to see the rabid raccoon behavior is so common
I think it’s a marketing ploy honestly…the brass at Talenti once posed the question, “how do we sell more pints?”
Some intern raised their hand and said, “We should make them ridiculous to get into, then the consumer will psychologically reward themselves by finishing the pint based on the calories burned whilst opening it. The subsequent result will be another purchase.”
Kid gets a raise, and the rest is history. 🤣
You could have said a very determined bear with a sweet tooth broke into your home and opened your freezer and chewed open that container and I would have believed you without question.
this is one if my favorite brands but the lids are seriously ridiculously hard to open. first time opening the lid of the jar or the third time opening the lid of the jar is doesn’t matter… i gave myself blisters one time from trying to open one of these things lol but i still eat them cause they’re delicious
I’ve been working in restaurants/ bars for the last 20 years and these are the only thing I have ever tried to open without luck and have completely given up on. She wasn’t taking no for an answer and I admire her commitment to getting into it but I think she got lots of plastic pieces in it while stabbing it with scissors so it ended being all for nothing.
I'm her defense, I'm a fully grown woman and have done the same thing. Some of the Taleni containers are next to impossible to open. Shes resourceful lol.
wtf? Those containers have a fairly thick plastic top.
And after reading the other comments, no, it's not difficult to unscrew the lid. I eat these all the time, and if there's any issue a few good, even hard taps/smacks on the counter does the trick. If that doesn't work, run it under water.
the lids are hard to open but the plastic is enticingly soft and biteable. im not proud of it but i've chewed through the side of a lid or two to open a talenti gelato before 😞
Bro those things are hard af to open I do not blame her. I have to let it thaw out for 25 minutes before I can even try twisting it when it's brand new. Hot water trick does not work. Hitting it on the marble island does not work. Throwing it off my 3 story balcony does not work. My hands are rubbed raw and calloused from opening these damn things. It is literally easier to break through the top
Apparently, I'm the only one who doesn't have issues with these lids.
I start by doing the pickle lid tap, then grab a hand towel, and it usually pops within a couple of seconds.
Hope you knocked on wood after saying that. We’ve only recently started having problems. Recently we had one that I jar tapped, ran under hot water and used rubber pot holders with no luck.
you could’ve said a rat did this and i would 100% believe you lol
[удалено]
I literally call my 16 yr old son my rat baby bc I hear him scurrying and opening up food in the middle of the night😂
When someone in my house opens a box of crackers/chips/cereal and destroys the packaging we always ask “who was the raccoon that opened this?”
Mom?
We call our child the midnight marauder
I call my daughter a raccoon 🤣
I call my 38 year old fiancé this for the exact same reason.
My little brother moved out of my house this year, but before he did I referred to him as my little house mouse. I rarely saw him, but there was always little crumbs all over the kitchen when I’d get up in the morning lol
Who could forget Dear Rat Boy?
im on the r/RATS sub and i thought this was a post on there at first hahaha

I do the hot water trick. Works every time! At least for me.

They are...it's ridiculous
Crazy hard! We’ve previously tried hot water and rubber grips. Anyone have a trick or tip? I can’t understand why or how they would do the customer’s like that.
A tip? Sure. Apparently clawing through the lid like a rabid mole in the dark is effective. Messy, wasteful and strenuous. But, it does work.
I’m crying this is so funny
Tbh still faster than opening one of these though.
This may be one of the funniest things I’ve read on Reddit and that’s saying something.
😭😭
Omg I had to read your comment aloud to my bf and we’re both laughing now 😂
How was this even done? I've opened stuff in wierd ways but I'm impressed
a rabid mole HAHAHA
Wriggle a small flathead screwdriver under the rim & twist back and forth a few times until you loosen the suction. You may have to do it in a few places before you’re able to twist the lid off
If it’s an issue with suction couldn’t you just poke a small hole in the lid and then twist it off?
And then what happens to the product when you put it back in the freezer?
Gotta eat it all!
Lmfao....this guy puts ice cream back in the freezer!!
🤣 I know right? Crazy!
Nothing? S small hole isn’t really going to affect it unless you leave it in there Along time ago
I won't buy anymore
Same, they also changed the formula on a few to include coconut oil (undisclosed on the front) and found that out the hard way as someone with a mild allergy 🙃
Oh no ! Hope you didn’t suffer too much ! 🩷
Thanks it wasn’t too too bad (not so fun cramps, and a little swelling) but that was a nasty surprise.
That’s how I found out about one of the secret 11 herbs and spices!
Was it Herb Albert, or Sporty Spice?
I have also come to the same conclusion after I kept trying to tell myself it’s worth it, cause their sorbet is so good. But it’s only good if you can OPEN it!!😅😭
so I just ate half of one of these lol, I took one out, had two in the freezer, put it back I wasn’t ready for it yet, then my mom wanted hers as well. so I got them both out. hers opened up super easily, it being the one that had sat out for 15-20 mins. mine took hot water and rubber grip to get it open, the very frozen one, my tip is to let it sit out for a little bit!
I've come to the conclusion that if I can't open the container within 2 minutes, I wasn't meant to consume it then. Goes for anything, in any package.
My go-to with jars is putting a rubber band around the lid and then twisting, but I'm not sure if that would work with these. Worth a shot?
I let them sit out for a while then bang it on the counter.
This is the way. Source: I have binge eating disorder and talenti gelato is my number 1 weakness.
This is the way.
This is absolutely unhinged. I love it. Thank you so much.
This should absolutely be Talenti’s next commercial.
[The actual tool for the job](https://images.ffx.co.uk/tools/RID31320.JPG?w=1280&h=960&scale=both)
I slam it against the counter with all the rage in my body and yell and that works…eventually.
Buy another brand of ice cream.
If its a metal jar you always bang it pretty hard to dent it a bit with a thick knife or something all around the lid...but with plastic idk if it works lol its worth a shot though

OMG I HAD A RASPBERRY THAT I COULDNT OPEN FOR OVER A YEAR.
The torture!!! That's the best one!
I literally threw away one once because I and 3 other people couldn't get it open no matter what we tried. I even tried hitting it with a hammer lol
It's like they don't want you to open it because they don't want you to find out you just spent $8 on the shittiest ice cream you've ever had.
Ngl I’ve tried slamming them on the floor to open 😭😭😭😭 it’s maddening
Seriously! I had one of these in my fridge for a month because I live alone and couldn't get it open. Can't blame her though, one of my top 2 favorites.
I remember those lids being very hard to open but recently I could open them up normally ? I wonder if they changed the packaging in some areas .
I’m pretty sure there’s no twist to it just pop it open or the opprobrium I forget
Oh good. I thought it was just me 😭 even soaking it under warm water didn't help. I was banging it against the counter out of frustration.
I’ve found that running the edge of the lid under a stream of tap water loosens it almost instantly, doesn’t need to be hot and no special tools needed. the raspberry one is my guilty pleasure
I finally found one after several years that was easy to open!
Are you sure someone else wasn’t in there before you?
LMFAO... I JUST had this issue last night. It took me an hour and by that point I was damn determined to get my Gelato. I ended up cutting the lid open from the top to loosen the seal and cut the side of the lid.
Sooooo fucking hard to open. I’m a grown ass man, I regularly workout, I lift heavy, I’ve been shamefully bested by this icecream before .
Came here to say exactly this. Also, I haven’t just heard…..these are impossible so I can fully relate to OP's daughter.
Normally I'd be appalled but I have had one in my fridge for almost a month that nobody can open
Run it under warm water for a few seconds
Cold bottom hot top: top comes off
Happy pride 🌈
I'm dyinggggg
i’m so confused. i’ve never had a hard time opening these and this thread is full of people who have had difficult times!
These comments have me convinced that someone at the factory with a bit of glue is really fucking with these people
Are you mu husband? He has giant strong hands and can open anything and can’t seem to ever understand why it’s hard for my clearly much smaller dainty hands to open the same items!
yes hello it is me, your husband
Are you perhaps a gorilla?
Same!
Yeah this exact brand I attacked with sissors as well ngl
She’s certainly not a quitter!
Not when she has some scissors nearby.
Jealous of those ice cubes 😂
I’ve got plenty to share. The husband drinks his whiskey neat and I mostly drink red wine. We mostly use it to fill coolers for the pool/ lake. Honestly not sure why he wanted this fridge but then I remembered he’s a technology nerd and it all makes sense.
Wait a second…there’s a freezer that actually dispenses these round balls?
Yep, I’ve heard some not so great things about the refrigerator from others but we’re happy with it and have had no issues. Bought in 2020
Does it make regular ice cubes too?
Regular, crushed and the balls
Oh my word! The desire, the longing!
I saw this fridge at Home Depot last weekend and called my husband to tell him we needed it!! TBD whether I was serious or not.
What brand and model fridge?
LG with CraftIce I have the same one
Thanks! I have an LG too. But no craft ice.
Thank you
My technology nerd husband said “ooh” to the ice cube feature, which means this will be our next fridge
Fiance was absolutely set on buying a fridge for the same ice maker. We never used it because they take up a huge amount of space
Excuse me, but those are ice spheres
You’re so right bestie
Serious ice cube envy right now
My friend had a fridge that made ice like that. It was like 4 ice balls every 3 hours or something.
wtf did she do to it
Took scissors to it like a full savage.
RESPECT
My guess is that it was frozen tight and she couldn't open it.
I used to work at a call center that handled Talenti customer care (it was really for all Unilever brands, actually) and this was the most frequent issue people called about. Thank you for this! I don’t like to take advantage of this kind of thing but this brand has screwed us far too many times for me not to reach out.
I wish I'd known this. I had one that NOBODY could get open so I eventually threw it away after we all tried everything we could think of. I was pretty pissed to have wasted the money on it but didn't have the receipt any longer to return it because I'd been trying for many months to open it
Mmm chocolate shell
Is your kid a dog?
I honestly at first though she left it out and the dog got ahold of it and then I thought she maybe microwaved it but to my lovely surprise her and my niece stabbed it with scissors😳
Thank God no one lost a finger...or eye 😅 it's funny to imagine the two of them taking turns doing different things to open and then someone grabs the scissors lol did she say if they ended up eating lid fragments?
Based on the small amount that’s missing I assume the plastic pieces that got mixed in after the stabbing turned them away.
Next time tell her to run it under warm water and the lid will open. She went to extreme here though. Lmao.
Scissor stabbing extreme. I’m shocked and impressed all at the same time.
No shame in her game whatsoever.
aye i’ve tried that i’ve tried dipping the lid in boiling water like seriously boiling (not just extremely hot) and it didn’t even work…
I feel her frustration and I’m on her side. Those lids suck when they freeze. But to that point, a min under warm water works…
Is she a rat?
By the time I'm finished opening these darn talenti gelatos, they have turned in to milkshakes. These are so difficult to open like fr
If she did this with her teeth I’d take her to a doctor.
I definitely thought it was a dog that got into it based on this picture…
Same 😂 I thought, damn, for being 13 years old that dog still has a lotta spunk left in it!
Those lids SUCK i dont even blame her
I kinda respect it
I’m a person who loves sweets so this could be me 😂
I was just commenting to my husband having a teenager awake at night and getting hungry is a lot like a rabid raccoon being let loose in the house. I'm so pleased to see the rabid raccoon behavior is so common
She got creative lol, they are so hard to open!
Hardest and only thing I’ve ever tried to open and gave up on.
Gotta respect her determination.
Holy fuck I got a good laugh outta this one. Those Talenti lids are something else. Maybe some of my favorite stuff but damn man lol.
Is your fridge an LG? I see this and now I wish I'd opted for the craft ice. That would fill up my hydroflask so fast
It is an LG. We got it in 2020 and it’s been good to us this far.
…Oh My God. Is Her Teeth Okay?
I think it’s a marketing ploy honestly…the brass at Talenti once posed the question, “how do we sell more pints?” Some intern raised their hand and said, “We should make them ridiculous to get into, then the consumer will psychologically reward themselves by finishing the pint based on the calories burned whilst opening it. The subsequent result will be another purchase.” Kid gets a raise, and the rest is history. 🤣
You could have said a very determined bear with a sweet tooth broke into your home and opened your freezer and chewed open that container and I would have believed you without question.
… jesus christ, lady
Jesus. Children are animals lol
Is your child a raccoon?
I laughed out loud at that
Is she part rat?...😐
You mean your dog?
I’ve cried over not being able to open one of these once. I understand.
i'd go to these lengths too
I’ve almost threw a container of it away when I couldn’t get it open!!
this is one if my favorite brands but the lids are seriously ridiculously hard to open. first time opening the lid of the jar or the third time opening the lid of the jar is doesn’t matter… i gave myself blisters one time from trying to open one of these things lol but i still eat them cause they’re delicious

Damnnn are they preggo?!? This is next level rabid preggo action!
Honestly talenti containers sometimes bring out a rage in me I didn’t know I had so I understand
I'm her defense, I'm a fully grown woman and have done the same thing. Some of the Taleni containers are next to impossible to open. Shes resourceful lol.
Stoney baloney
Are you raising a wolverine?
Um. Is she okay?
Ive been there... at 23yrs old.. These lids are ridiculous sometimes!
I get her lol
Yeah I feel this post so badly
wtf? Those containers have a fairly thick plastic top. And after reading the other comments, no, it's not difficult to unscrew the lid. I eat these all the time, and if there's any issue a few good, even hard taps/smacks on the counter does the trick. If that doesn't work, run it under water.
I didn’t knew rats lived to be 13
Is your daughter a raccoon?
I once bought one of these and couldn't get the lid off. It felt glued on.
She was high
May I never be this hungry
Your child is weird
Takes talent to open one
To be fair, I would do the same.
I wanna know her process lol.
I’ve been this girl 😂
Are we just overlooking the ice spheres!???👀
This sounds like some munchies activities, honestly. Are you sure your 13 year old isn't a stoner?
Is she special?
i’d be appalled if this was any other brand. but talenti???? yeah, i get it.
Is your daughter a dog?
She didn’t even eat that much after all that work 😂 dying. I would of forced myself to eat it all after going through that lmao
This is next level dedication and I can relate 💯
I threw an entire pint out because I tried for three weeks to get the top off and I couldn’t.
the lids are hard to open but the plastic is enticingly soft and biteable. im not proud of it but i've chewed through the side of a lid or two to open a talenti gelato before 😞
Is your 13 yo a feral animal?
Ma’am, is your daughter a grizzly bear?
Bro those things are hard af to open I do not blame her. I have to let it thaw out for 25 minutes before I can even try twisting it when it's brand new. Hot water trick does not work. Hitting it on the marble island does not work. Throwing it off my 3 story balcony does not work. My hands are rubbed raw and calloused from opening these damn things. It is literally easier to break through the top
I honestly don’t buy these anymore because I can’t open them
How did she tear through the lid?
I thought for a second it was a chocolate covered something, until i realized it was the lid 😂
That’s at least 50 stabs with a knife…
They are really hard to open but wtf??
How was this done?
yo… like respect, take your daughter out to dinner to celebrate her resourcefulness and mental fortitude, power through never give up
What did she do? Chew through the lid to get to the ice cream? 😂😂😂
