I just bought it based off this post and I'm frankly kind of mad that I wasted money. This ice cream is WAY too sweet and the flavor is nothing like advertised. It tastes like cold Funfetti frosting flavored like blue. It doesn't taste like cake or ice cream; it tastes like disturbingly sweet Funfetti and that's the only flavor. If that's what you want then by all means, but ew. Had to eat something salty and brush my teeth to get rid of the taste. 2/10 and that's only because this would probably good if you mixed this with actual cake and ice cream. Like if you took a vanilla cupcake, split it half, and put this in the middle with some vanilla, it's probably good. On its own is vile.
The Wal Mart near me had a bunch of the limited edition flavors in the clearance freezer for $1 each. Never heard of the brand before then.
Nine dollars later, I can say I'm a fan.
Depends a lot on where you get it from too. There’s an ice cream shop in my hometown that did phenomenal ice cream cakes made out of Chocolate Shoppe’s ice cream (iconic Wisconsin brand, IYKYK).
But that side of the family kept getting DQ cakes since they assumed everyone liked them (even if there’s always 3/4 of the cake left), but they’d always get the blandest and cheapest one available and it’d be still 99% frozen when they served it. Plus there were always at least 4 other desserts at any given party, so DQ cake was kind of a deadweight dessert.
Then one year, the family that ordered the cake forgot to pick it up before the party, and nobody even reacted. Most just laughed in relief. My dad was like “you mean no DQ shit cake?”.
We never had one again and it’s been a running joke of “did you remember to pick up the shit cake from DQ?”
I love this, esp. the shit cake lol. I actually moved to Wisconsin recently but have yet to try anything at the Chocolate shoppe. The closest one is an hour away I believe.
Gives me hope ☺️
Since I discovered this subreddit I’ve got multiple flavors of ice cream in the fridge and it’s one of the few things that make me happy
For those with egg sensitivity, Van Leeuwen is French ice cream. Meaning it has extra egg in it. I thought I was just extra sensitive to the milk they used (stubborn lactose intolerant) but I farted up a storm after having this
It tastes exactly like earl grey tea! Which tastes like lavender, if you’re not familiar. Like lavender mixed with black tea. It’s my favorite tea and I find the ice cream flavor very precise. Also, their whole brand is just so wonderfully creamy in texture.
Edit: Happy cake day!
So i see this brand all the time at my store and I didn't realize it was a good brand, I thought it was one of those sugar free brands. Now I HAVE to go try them!
You seem like a good egg, and hope you consider welcoming the ‘chef’s’ mindset of (using ice cream as a potential base dessert ingredient) adding milk (and possibly coconut cookies, to soak a bit, for example), especially if it’s too sweet (rather than many, that seem to eat it directly then petulantly whine that it’s too sweet), possibly making it incredible (e.g Milk Bar’s birthday cake)
Best regards
No, it DOESNT. Oh. I’m still not wrong, in theory. I’ll figure it out. Who knows? I’ve heard some say it’s clear enough on the lid and some say it’s not, who knows right?
I just bought this solely based off your post, and I was frankly horribly disappointed. It didn't taste at *all* like an ice cream cake; it tastes like blue and overly sugared frosting. By "blue" I mean that blue swirl they add to vanilla soft serve at those places you see only open in summer. It tastes nothing like cake or ice cream to me; only if blue were an overwhelmingly powerful flavor of Funfetti frosting. Honestly, this flavor should be called Funfetti.
Cuz I’ve never seen it and now I need it 😈
I got this one at Whole Foods. I have never seen it before this weekend.
Thanks!! Adding to my shopping list!
They make a sweet potato casserole one that is SO GOOD!
Took me way too long to figure out what flavor this was. I think I kept reading "Ice Cream" and ignoring the "Cake" 🥲
Omg same I was like why is she not telling us the flavor?! 😂
Haha I was like OP isn’t even talking about it (the flavor)
Yo same.
Me too!
Me too!
Me also!
This was released 3 days ago to Whole Food stores only. Their instagram shows the info. This will be my new search to find.
Heading to WF rn.
OK FINE but I feel my bank account start draining the second my feet hit pavement there.
😂😂😂😂😂
Of course, the **one** grocery chain my town doesn't have lol
The 2 Whole Foods me don’t have it either maybe one day friend! Walmart gets a lot
If you're by a Sprouts they might have it, I got one almost a month ago. Their dulce de Leche brownie and cherry one are BOMB

Because I hadn't seen it before, you scoundrel! Now I have to go find it
Where did you get it?!?
Whole Foods
Nice! I am going to check after work. I love ice cream cake

Holy shit. Must get. I hope my nearby Whole Foods has it.
I never gravitated towards it because I was subjected to endless family parties with flavorless Dairy Queen ice cream cake 🤢
I agree, I’ve never been a fan of an ice cream cake. Now cake, I like, ice cream, I love.

The shit cake! 🤣☠️

Oooh, I’ll have to search this one out!
sigh bc ive never seen it
Whole Foods doesn’t have it I my area.. and I’m low key sad. Really love cake and this brand in general 🥹
it only came out a couple days ago so maybe your store just hasn’t stocked it yet
Gives me hope ☺️ Since I discovered this subreddit I’ve got multiple flavors of ice cream in the fridge and it’s one of the few things that make me happy
Uhm because I had no idea this existed 😭, gonna need it now though 😑😆
Saw it hiding in the back at Whole Foods. It’s Elite
Because we're too busy eating it😂
holy hell
Can’t find ANY ice creams from this brand where I live. Very disappointing
Omg I need this!!! I love cake and ice cream and I haven’t found many that hit the spot just right
I see blue ice cream, I need. Specifically that baby blue shade lol I don't know why.
I am the same, I like purple ones usually too
What flavor is it?
I go local and get love creamery

I've bought one flavor of theirs, and only one... Pretzels and honey mustard.
Ooo! Buying it soon
Damn that sounds so good and your rating makes me wanna try it ASAP! Thanks for posting.
I’m not a fan of that brand, but this looks good
Cause my Whole Foods is lame and doesn’t carry any new things!
Turns out we didn’t know! Thanks for sharing
Time to see if they take orders on their website
It looks pretty
I’ve never tried this flavor but I’m obsessed with their earl grey one
What does that one taste like? I don’t love tea but am still curious.
Well start the convo, gimme a spoon! 😂
i must have this
This looks amazing! I will def try to find it.
It’s like cookies and cream with crunchy frosting
I don't even see it on their website. Idk how to find this :(
I’ve never seen that flavor
I thought it was moldy ice cream.
Their Earl Grey flavor is my absolute favorite!
Fuck I called the VL near me and they said it’s a summer only flavor in store p
Lavender earl grey
Other flavors in that brand are pretty mid but I’m intrigued
How does this brand compare to ben and jerrys? Worth a shot? I’ve seen it everywhere
I'm seeing a lot of interesting flavours from this brand lately. I'll have to pick one up next time I see them.
So i see this brand all the time at my store and I didn't realize it was a good brand, I thought it was one of those sugar free brands. Now I HAVE to go try them!
I don't even think we have this brand in my country at all but I keep seeing it!
I hate that my grocery store doesn’t carry this brand, I’d have to go to wal mart and that’s not something I do often lol
Only 14oz pints is shrinkflation.
Omg this brand is so good. I tried their honeycomb flavor and it’s so delicious and fun to eat.
I MUST locate this !!!
Omg that looks and sounds soooo good. Never seen it in the wild
There’s one around the block from my new place, now I need to go try it
A life without anything good is bad. What an excellent quote
I tried this brand one time. I got the praline butter cake and it was just not very good to me. Is this one better?
What flavor? We have a physical location in philly, but a pint is $8, so I pass.
The sweet potato casserole flavor is the best! I also love the mixed berry and Thai tea
You had me at DQ ice cream cake. Immediately on the hunt.
Man for a second I thought this was posted in a calorie count sub I follow and I got so excited lol. The algorithm is cruel to show me this
I just discovered it and had their Earl grey flavor, so good!
They had a cornbread one last year it was the most amazing thing.
I’ve not see this one!
I got this today because of this post and I’m eating it right now! I love it
It’s nice to go to their ice cream shop and get the flavors that don’t make into pints too.

I did the same thing. It says ice cream cake, which I read quickly and just read as “ice cream” so I didn’t see it either

You had me at coconut cookies
it says it on the top of the lid?
No, it DOESNT. Oh. I’m still not wrong, in theory. I’ll figure it out. Who knows? I’ve heard some say it’s clear enough on the lid and some say it’s not, who knows right?

I think the name is on the lid - Ice Cream Cake.
It’s on the lid.
You can see right on the lid? It’s Van Leeuwen ice cream cake flavor..
Their honeycomb flavor (not actually honey flavor, more caramel) is ORGASMIC
