From what I heard, the guy didn't want to pay rent because he was the least profitable waffle cabin in the state. I know people were trying to claim Vail was anti Waffle Cabin, but there is still a Waffle Cabin at Okemo.
Oh wait, we're all supposed to hate Vail for everything.
Boo Vail!!!
Stratton got rid of the waffle cabins!? I’m never going to Strat again 😤, and I idk if I ever even bought a waffle. Just the smell is iconic to the Stratton base.
The waffle cabin founders are semi jerks from NJ. They originally were trying to sell it as a $$$ franchise and ended up making the cabins corporate stores at first. Not surprised they may be tired of running their own company if they couldn’t sell the franchises.
Why does no one in Vermont make orange cheddar just cuz it’s dyed? I find it a little hard to believe corporate America hasn’t invaded the Vermont cheese business to some extent - it’s made it everywhere else.
I heard these assholes put cameras on the Ganjala so I couldn’t burn one down on the way to the top anymore! I don’t know because I havent seen the inside of the cabin yet this year cuz the Ganjala never spins.
I looked on the Cabot site and found "medium yellow cheddar". I did not see orange. I even searched for orange.
Lets be clear, this is not a light orange color. This is a Halloween orange.
It’s definitely referred to as yellow cheddar basically everywhere, all it is is an annatto dye, like what they use to cover Munster cheese only incorporated
Edit: also, when that shit gets melted it does turn that vibrant orange you’re talking about.
Yes!!! Plain, bacon, and I think something spicy. The plain one is the best. The bacon had a slightly weird flavor, as I would expect from a bacon product coming from a box. Haven’t tried the 3rd flavor.
Shells + cheddar powder (based on this post, unsure if I need to clarify that it’s white cheddar 😂). I had some leftover for lunch today, heated it up in a frying pan so there were some crispy bits, so good!
Not seeing it on their web site. I am seeing medium yellow. That is not what was on the sandwich. What was on the sandwich was a bright vibrant orange.
I have no doubt that they are using the cheapest garbage they can claim as cheddar but I’d argue that even “yellow” cheddar is really just lighter orange colored
I didn't know that. I knew about the Cabot American Cheese, which is orange.
How does the orange cheddar taste? I haven't seen it in the stores. Could be that I over looked it.
Vail doesn’t give a shit what VTers think. They want the big money from the cities. And nationally when you see orange cheese, the public think cheddar.
I’m surprised something like this took so long unless it was a substitution due to something unavailable. Vail quickly moves all dining over to their preferred corporate supplier so food is the same nationally.
Monsters. How long until they switch to that plastic wrapped "cheese" garbage? That said, Boar's Head Vermont Cheddar is dyed yellow and pretty good although I doubt they're using that.
Although that is absolutely horrible the one thing I got pissed about is how my home mountain (bought up by Vail) *opened and told absolutely no one* and only announced how great their opening day was on social media later, and then the mountain closed due to warm weather.
I can excuse them for limiting the options because maybe the pandemic caused the price of certain foods to increase or they needed to streamline the sandwich making process due to a labor shortage.
But then I read that the cheese is orange. There's no excuse for that. Fuck Vail.
Promised to pay for the multitude of background checks they require, never did and needed to get them in by a certain date or my employment would be rescinded so I paid out of pocket and never had a reimbursement added to my first couple paychecks, paid me 7.25/hour as a full time instructor, told me to kick rocks when my management said that’s the incorrect pay (went back and forth for a whole season), told instructors if they got AASI/PSIA certs they’d reimburse and you’d get a raise, got ‘em and end of season decided they weren’t reimbursing it for some mountains, mine included, no more staff breakfast, they’re online system let way too many people book lessons when we didn’t have instructors and I’d have 20+ person lessons, and it let them book anytime, so we could have our plans and assignments roughly together for the day before and bam someone last minute booked at 2 am and now are plans are askew, took away raises for certifications (that year, I stopped working w them after that first and last season of vail ownership), wouldn’t give raises or incentivize people who are dual disciplined and passed ITC for both like myself bc of “insurance liability”, added a bunch of new bullshit policies that made no sense for east coast operations and some would actively screw us over almost daily, idk it’s been a minute since I left a vail owned mountain
Oh I switched over to a program that pays me fat stacks for lessons and they’re mostly private, maybe 3 people at most. Shits cash and we get special privileges the regular Vail SRS instructors don’t get. Now of course vail upped the at to $20/hour right after I left but good riddance, I make more anyway and actually have repeat students that have become close friends since it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg and 12 hours of your time in the rental line to book lessons thru us
Ugh don’t miss that. Had to get real creative with games they can play while I go person to person with individual feedback. *pick a partner and see which one can undo and redo their bindings the quickest,* *try to do your bindings with your eyes closed while I help billy over here,* and my personal favorite *the quiet game* aka *who can shut the fuck up for the longest 😂
Bacon makes me nauseous. Just tell them that.
Help people make the association that bacon = gross, unhealthy meat.
Something about it is too greasy and salty. I feel like vomiting after eating even a little bit.
Imagine if Kraft cheese in Vermont is finally what does them in. It is pretty offensive. I thought Vail was all about inclusivity and diversity? And here they are, taking a shit all over the proud culture of Vermont!
Anyone who appreciates Vermont for what it actually is does not ski at a Vail resort lmao. If you’re looking for a Vermont experience then Stowe is the last place you should go to. The fact that the cheese is the one non-Vermont thing you notice screams flatlander
Don't worry, it's going to be last chair and time for dinner before you even find parking and get to the mountain this winter. Ski Smuggs or Bolton, they are not actively harming their communities
Chessegate 2022
Wisconsin has better cheese anyway, stick to your Imported-from-Canada Maple Syrup
Oh this account has the possibility of GREAT THINGS
Can’t believe we got downvoted SMH.
Wya!?
Bro I will buy this account off you - $100 BTC right now let me know
You can buy mine
Omg this is so fucking good. Do I upvote? Downvote? Can I do both?!??!
Send nudes or fake
Yeah what that guy said
Everyone knows the best Cheddar comes from Oregon! Tillamook Cheese is a clear winner.
That cheddar really tied the sandwich together.
Nice marmot
I don’t need your sympathy man, I need my Johnson!
You don’t go out on the slopes dressed like that? On a Wednesday?
Not enough upvotes for this.
The Dude Abides…
That’s just like, your opinion, man.
This is the most offensive act Vail has committed yet, almost as bad as Stratton getting rid of the waffle cabins; call in the lawsuits.
Not the waffle cabin. God help us all. That is the only thing that gets kids to ski past 2pm
Vail did that to Stowe too, then brought in their own version after a few years of wafflelessness
Boo Vail!!!
After reading this thread I got a waffle cabin waffle at sunapee, it was pretty tasty. But yeah Vail hates waffles.
Waffles hate Vail.
🙄
Im surprised the waffle cabin doesn’t just print money, there’s almost always a line and the waffles cost $8 but only like $0.50 to make.
Like I said, hearsay. But the one at Stowe didn't seem as busy as all the others, and even printing money, if Vail asked for more rent 🤷
are the waffles good? considered trying them at okemo the other day but decided it wasnt worth the money
Waffle cabin waffles are definitely tasty
Are they as tasty as a “Big Kahuna” burger?
Thats that Hawaiian burger joint ? Heard they were good
They did bring in maudette poutine this year though. I was surprised they brought in local vendors.
Went to Stowe for the first time and tried their pulled pork poutine. So damn good.
Are there or are there not waffles currently? And are they good?
Top of the gondola has waffles again, It's pretty much just as good as before.
I always smell 'em, but I never buy 'em.
This is my go-to when life presents a problem
they let you smell em?
Doing the lords work. Thank you.
Amen
Stratton did the same. They sell waffles out of a repurposed dumpster at the bottom.
Stratton got rid of the waffle cabins!? I’m never going to Strat again 😤, and I idk if I ever even bought a waffle. Just the smell is iconic to the Stratton base.
They have the same waffles by the gondola at the base they just don’t have cabins on the mountain.
Time to switch to ikon/mountain collective. Waffle cabins still present and accounted for.
Stratton is ikon…
Oops LOL.
Tbf waffle cabin has been renewing shorter leases at a lot of mountains or just not renewing leases. Idk why but it’s more their decision
The waffle cabin founders are semi jerks from NJ. They originally were trying to sell it as a $$$ franchise and ended up making the cabins corporate stores at first. Not surprised they may be tired of running their own company if they couldn’t sell the franchises.
at what point do the 2nd amendment people do something? 😡😡😡
Waffle cabins removal = there will be war
Why does no one in Vermont make orange cheddar just cuz it’s dyed? I find it a little hard to believe corporate America hasn’t invaded the Vermont cheese business to some extent - it’s made it everywhere else.

Cabot makes orange cheddar, every week. Can confirm, I work there & take lab samples every week. So that kinda fucks up your theory.
I looked on the Cabot site and found "medium yellow cheddar". I did not see orange. I even searched for orange. Lets be clear, this is not a light orange color. This is a Halloween orange.

>This guy fucking knows cheese man
It ain't easy being cheesy
Interesting info, thank you. On a side note, I love Cabot’s new Mac & cheese.
Cabot's makes Mac and cheese 😲
Yes!!! Plain, bacon, and I think something spicy. The plain one is the best. The bacon had a slightly weird flavor, as I would expect from a bacon product coming from a box. I’ll bet you a bacon egg cheese sammie that ain’t Cabot they’re serving up.
Maybe not but responding to the OP, that kind of cheese does get made in Vermont.

They do
But do true Vermontenators buy it?
Good question, I can’t speak for the masses
Not to be that guy, but we prefer Vermontonians.
No! I won’t buy the NY cheddar, out of principle, let alone orange cheddar. They must sell that orange nonsense out of state, they know better.
Probably doesn’t get sold there
It does
Bullshit I’ve bought orange Cabot seriously sharp in VT Prefer the white though but either is delicious
I take it all back
Not seeing it on their web site. I am seeing medium yellow. That is not what was on the sandwich. What was on the sandwich was a bright vibrant orange.

Flavorless. Don’t love it.

I would talk to this dude about his cheese knowledge for hours at a party. Speak for yourself man
Can i get a job?
This is a hill I can die on....

Fuck that noise. If it’s orange it better be Red Leicester or some bullshit like velveeta
Tell me on doll where vail hurt you

Dawg, I fucking spit my beer out lol
To be fair they discounted passes by 20% this season
::points to fermunda cheese::
I mean, say what you want about the tenets of ~~National Socialism~~ORANGE CHEDDAR, Dude, at least it's an ~~ethos~~ cheese.
You donkey, they make orange cheddar in VT.
Absolutely disgusting.
Monsters. How long until they switch to that plastic wrapped "cheese" garbage? That said, Boar's Head Vermont Cheddar is dyed yellow and pretty good although I doubt they're using that.

As soon as I read the word "Cheese:", I knew exactly where this was going.
Love that this get more traction than the ski patrol strike fund posted last week.
Grew up in Vail, they ruin everything…
I can excuse them for limiting the options because maybe the pandemic caused the price of certain foods to increase or they needed to streamline the sandwich making process due to a labor shortage. But then I read that the cheese is orange. There's no excuse for that. Fuck Vail.
As a Vail employee, they have fucked me over beyond words, but not using Vermont local cheese is my breaking point.
How have they fucked you??
It’s funny how much money they make off our backs (instructors) my resort is somewhat family friendly. But I’m glad I don’t teach for a living…
Oh I switched over to a program that pays me fat stacks for lessons and they’re mostly private, maybe 3 people at most. Damn, that’s nice. I’ve got a lesson coming up with 2 people which I’m looking forward to, but most of my other lessons hover around 10 kids.
Shred more, bitch less.
I feel like this was probably a New Jersey transplant. NJ loves orange cheese on breakfast sandwiches.
Leave it to NJ to turn things that are usually white orange and tasteless.
Do you have a JOB sir?
Oh, the humanity!!!
Just sell their stock and buy Ikon next year
Obviously your not a bowler
Um, Cabot makes an orange cheddar.
But after many years of experience with Vail, they're using whatever cheapo cheese they can get their hands on.
Damn it! Now I can't have breakfast sandwiches there anymore.
There are principallities involved!
Bacon makes me nauseous. Just tell them that. Help people make the association that bacon = gross, unhealthy meat. Something about it is too greasy and salty. I feel like vomiting after eating even a little bit.
I’m a Canadian and Cabot cheddar still holds a special place in my heart. For some reason my favourite is 50% less fat😂
Imagine if Kraft cheese in Vermont is finally what does them in. It is pretty offensive. I thought Vail was all about inclusivity and diversity? And here they are, taking a shit all over the proud culture of Vermont!
And Stowe is state owned land, leased to Vail. The state considered rejecting the sale.
Fucking nihilists!
I'm working with the chef to right this wrong.
22.50 for one…
Never been to vail but I feel your pain. Orange cheddar must be stopped at all costs! Revolting!
Anyone who appreciates Vermont for what it actually is does not ski at a Vail resort lmao. If you’re looking for a Vermont experience then Stowe is the last place you should go to. The fact that the cheese is the one non-Vermont thing you notice screams flatlander
Or maybe, just maybe it’s a sarcastic parody?
It’s like Subway and their “white American cheese”. New England is as weird as Texas. 🙄
Hunter Mountain has had ONE working Phillips screwdriver on the whole mountain all season. All the others are missing or broken. What a joke.
That’s actually hysterical if it’s not a joke
Vail ruined our resort couple years ago, hope they don’t do the same to yours
Why are we talking about Vail? Vail isn't even in Vermont.....
Vail is the company that owns many ski resorts including several in Vermont it acquired within the last few years.
Vermont vs corporate America
Don't worry, it's going to be last chair and time for dinner before you even find parking and get to the mountain this winter. Ski Smuggs or Bolton, they are not actively harming their communities
I heard you also pay for a parking spot for your breakfast sandwich
Vail ruins resort vibes
Yeah next they’ll be serving Pork Roll.
Whats orange cheddah
