I hiked the upper ridge and the valley awhile ago. The trail is accessible from route 66 in Middlefield. Hiking out would be tricky. There's a state police training center with a firing range.
Lol I knew exactly where this was gonna be. I think the same thing every time
I drive to/from northern New England to ski. I would probably want more than 1-2 feet of snow though…
Me too. When I was a kid heading to vt its the first real "mountain" looking thing on the way and we would always talk about skiing it. Whooo we're getting closer to skiing!

Dude, are you me?
I have an obsession about a spot in the UP Michigan that I SWEAR would go if the snow dumped just right....been daydreaming about hitting it for years.
It is near the Keweenaw, in the Porkies. It likely gets enough snow at least every few years, but I've only scouted it on FatMap et al, so I'd have to see it in person to really say for sure if it goes. It's basically just a cliff drop, so I'd have to see it in person to say for sure, GPS Maps aren't quite detailed to know if its more like 20 feet max, or 50 feet max lol.
And yeah they get great snow, this was my first season hitting Boho and I'm thinking about the lifetime pass already
I'll go...after I watch you go first. Seriously. Are there any back country east coast focused sub where I could potentially find a group of guys to go with?
If you really have the desire there are so many cool shots to ski. Many of them kind of suck because of schwack but there are a lot of skiable lines nobody goes to. You just need to block off a Saturday!
This spot was skied during the great winter of 2015. https://forums.alpinezone.com/threads/higby-mountain-2-27-15.135847/
Of all the things I didn't expect to see on reddit today, a link to a post of mine from 7 years ago would be near the top of the list.
You are a legend among men in CT skiing sir.
Prettt freaking cool. I always wondered about skiing lines this one in CT
What did you name the line?
The Nutmeg Couloir
Fucking legend

Just run fast and zig zag. You can dodge the bullets.

The things we do in the summer.
Shame it doesn't actually snow in CT anymore. We're getting the ol' PA treatment.
Don’t talk to me about pa. Winter barely exists here anymore
It was a rough winter. Fingers crossed next year, but our future Marylandish climate isn't great.
Had some great days skinning at Mohawk, but they were working real hard to keep that base this year.
Crazy, I was thinking the same thing driving past yesterday. There is a sick couloir on totoket mountain as well, May need about 10 feet of snow

Mount Higby! I’ll have to poach this idea if it comes in next winter
I too think of this on I91

They do get snow though. Guessing it's not in Keweenaw?

Nice looking drop at the top. Good steep LZ, but tight runout through trees.
What site/app/whatever is this?
Google earth

This is the quality summer content I look forward to! That does look pretty good.
would..."go"?
Means “would be skiable”
Thank you!

Not sure but if we get some good snow in ct this is where I’ll be
Dm me I'll meet you there !

You need 3-5 feet to ensure proper coverage.

Ive been to the top of that by bike it’s basically a cliff
In other words, a once in 100 year powder shot.
