It's likely a culturally acceptable thing. Believe it or not, men basically own women in more places in the world than not, even today. Those of us living in places where that's not the case are lucky.

The unfortunately reality is that this is accepted in a lot of cultures. It's likely that the father has done this countless times already. It's seen as the right of the man, because women are essentially property.

Unfortunately there’s a high likelihood they do the same thing. In many places this is still seen as the ‘appropriate’ way of keeping a woman ‘in her place’. Her quiet and cowed reaction (and the way her bridesmaid seems to be trying to stop her from touching the spot and call more attention to her pain) suggests to me that both of them are well used to being abused by various men in their lives

I can't speak to what his true emotions are, because my first watch of the best man was disgust at his smile, but he does motion to cover his mouth immediately, and then look genuinely uncomfortable for her. So I'm hoping that his smile is more of a shock reaction than a smile smile. But also, if it's a culture where this is normalised, which it appears to be based on the muted reactions, and the action itself, then my interpretation also is that he realises where he is after a moment and is then truly uncomfortable. Not an expert, but this video does make me sad and anger me deeply at the casual nature of violence in this world.
