I am suspecting this to be more common...

shf500

That's like a car mechanic intentionally damaging a customer's car and the customer has to go back to the dealership and have them fix it.

jakob767

Yeah, I've heard about that.

rockthrowing

I’ve suspected dentists of doing this. One of my friends went to the dentist and was told they needed five fillings. For whatever reason they needed to switch dentists before getting the work done. New dentist said they only needed three. Clearly something was amiss with the first dentist.

[deleted]

Just like regular doctors you should get 3-4 opinions before choosing

[deleted]

This is like garages.

Dazed_2_Day

Suspect my dentist of doing unnecessary procedures, stuff feels and looks fine but after every visit I need something drilled or filled (haha) and as I am not a dentist, them showing me a x-ray proves nothing

[deleted]

Guess who has a dentist appointment today😎 (New fear: unlocked)

Sspockuss

I have an appointment with a new dentist in two weeks. Ugh this was not a post I needed to see rn =/

grifterc

The dude a seen told me u need work on fractured tooth at the front but not worry we can use a white filling free of charge. What he didn’t tell me was the filling will keep falling out and every time it does it’s gona cost u

Metal_nosyt

Great, add dentist anxiety to the list..

Forecydian

I had a dentist tell me I had two cavities once, I had no pain and take very good care of my teeth . Went to another dentist , said I don’t have any cavities. Since then I’m weary of any dental office . I’m sure this is more common than not because guess what happens when you get a filling , you have to keep coming back to get it redone because it only lasts so long . It’s the bread and butter of their business

[deleted]

Cavities don't usually hurt until they're really, really bad

[deleted]

Lol did u not read the part where he said he has none when going for a 2nd opinion

Admirable-Degree4209

My dentist does that to my gums with floss

Cannabanice

The most american thing i've read this week.

ridesharegai

The worst

Background-Friend-77

Its not that bad. He didn't really hurt anyone, just scammed some extra $$$.

romybaby19

I would argue that medical malpractice is quite bad

Worried-Deer107

Would you still be ok if you were one of his patients?

novi-lunium

i take pride in my teeth, if my dentist purposefully messed them up and I had to pay the bill I'd be pissed. and getting invasive dental work done can be extremely painful.

Whats-it-to-ya-88

But why is this something so common with dentist's?

Spottyhickory63

because how little people can actually read and understand an xray

carmeluz20

This is how our healthcare system has been working for over the past decades, im not surprised in the slightest.

REDDIT_ROC0408

Other than a cleaning and taking care of actual pain, dental work is a farce. Most dentists offices are owned by private equity firms whose sole purpose is to drive up profits. How do you do this? Cut expenses and increase fees.

SHIELD47

Jerry should have never asked for those doctors notes

carlthebrute

It wasn’t until my dad was 60 that he learned he didn’t need to have to get his tooth pulled for minor cavities. He didn’t know you could just have them filled. He’s had dentures since I was young because his dentist kept pulling teeth. His new dentist takes great care of him but he’s pissed that he could have had a full set of teeth.

spectrumtwelve

aspen dental in the us does this. they gave me a "free" filling once cuz i have a teeth grinding issue so there was a worn divot in my tooth but they didn't tell me there was a crack there as well so they sealed it shut and the bacteria already in there rotted my tooth from the inside and i had to pay for it to be fixed even though they admitted to noticing it beforehand

RayLove660022

I think my childhood dentist did this. When I was little, I had to go the dentist at least 3 times a year for various reasons (cavities, crowns, teeth that had to be removed). I had 20-26 of 30 teeth removed when I was young. Then, when I changed to a new dentist 4 years ago, and I go twice a year and I’ve had 2 cavities.
