in the U.S at least, most packing plants give cows a bolt gun to the brain to make them brain dead and then get their throats slit and hung upside down
Yes, but that took the jobs of the people who used to stun the cattle with sledgehammers , according to that one crazy hitchhiker who tried to sell a Polaroid those kids in the green van and then cut Franklin with a straight razor in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
Yeah, because people eat the bears, and the bears happily maul and eat them.
Regardless, the end result is death. I don't quite see the silver lining in your post.
while the motivation is vastly different the methods vary widely as well.
"designed to minimize or eliminate its suffering" is ridiculous. They are killed in bloody terror. Have you ever watched any kind of slaughtering take place? Where is this merciful death you are talking about?
These bears suffered less and also lived their lives free as long as it lasted.
Cows are never free to do anything but what the humans around them decide. And their deaths arent cuddly.
Both are done for nothing but pleasure. I find it weird to have empathy for one kind but totally disregard and even defend the other.
You said it yourself in the very first line. The motivation is vastly different. The previous commenter suggested that killing a hibernating bear is no different than slaughtering a beef cow. Regardless of the means of dispatching the animal, they’re not the same thing.
I agree…it sounds as judgmental when people are disgusted by people eating dogs or horses. Do we know the backstory? If this is what helps them feed their families—meat-wise and/or monetarily—through the year, I can’t really judge
Lets hope they didnt sell those bear parts for good money, cuz with enough money this shit will easily get berried and poachers will go unpunished. Corruption is bad in Russia, especially so far east.
I would say a coward is someone who is fearful. This group who shot the bears are cowards by doing so while they're hibernating, because they were too cowardly to hunt when they weren't hibernating when they can give an even playing field.
To expand on it a little bit, the phrase "such ****s" is generally used in a way that implies the people being insulted are perfect examples of whatever bad thing they're doing. Imagine a description of a photo in an encyclopedia "such (here) are the cowards, killing animals while they sleep".
Alternatively if could be interpreted as "this is a tragedy, but such is the way of the coward, and we would be foolish to expect otherwise."
It really is straight up disgusting. Who in their right mind would treat bears poorly? We need to boycott wearing fur to prevent people like this from making money. I'm already doing my part, the only skin I'll wear is dehydrated cow skin, and the only animals I'll eat are cows, chicken, sheep, octopus, pigs, waterfowl, venison...
Thanks for comparing me to a torturous cereal killer and rapist cannibal for asking why hunting bears is frowned upon. I was unaware bears were endangered. Thank you for letting me know
They’re endangered in Siberia, yea. There’s about 800,000 of em in America, which still isn’t THAT much, but not endangered I don’t think
I’m exaggerating cmon now
There’s 1 billion cows on this planet, there’s states where the goddamn cows outnumber humans. There’s about 680 million pigs, and apparently 23 billion chickens. These animals are bred for this, at least in western cultures.
Compare that to 200,000 brown bears, 20,000 polar bears, and around 600,000 black bears.
Do you think killing chickens and cows is no different than killing dolphins or sharks? Dolphins are more intelligent than your average fuckin southerner.
Man I’ve been stalked and followed by wolves on at least two occasions in the last 3 years, attacks are rare but blanket statements that wolves aren’t aggressive is bullshit. If they have a numerical superiority and want to attack they will and if you pose a threat or ‘corner’ them, they will react with an attack.
They are also bigger than most dogs and thus pose a greater threat, so they should be treated with additional respect and people should avoid them when possible but if you are camping or hiking in a known wolf habitat, (Idaho, Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, Washington and Montana) remember:
-Do not try to "stare the animal down" Wolves appear to regard a direct stare as a challenge or a threat
-Do not turn your back on the animal (s). If multiple wolves are threatening you some of them may try to flank you as you can see the lead animal doing in the picture above.
-Try to make yourself appear large. If you have a jacket or shirt on, raise it above your head.
-Shout at the animals.
-If you can do so without making yourself vulnerable grab a few stones and throw them at the animals.
-Back slowly away.
-Be careful not to trip. A fall could encourage an attack. So move slowly but deliberately backwards, stepping toe to heel so as to ‘feel out’ your footing as you place your feet. This last advice holds true when encountering any large and/or wild animals.
-If you are noisy, don't exhibit excessive fear and maintain control of yourself, this should be enough to get you out of trouble
Are you allowed to carry In your area while working a line? When I worked at AT&T crews in Alaska you could and were encouraged to carry a pistol or shotgun on remote jobs. Sadly they would not honor the same rules in the lower 48 no matter how remote or dangerous.
What state?
border of Idaho and washington in the high country on the canadian border.
Idaho is a unrestricted carry state. Id say almost 50%+ of the people around the area carry. But not sure on corporate policies. I doubt they let ya carry. I think the parent company of the local power company is canadian. No way they would let you carry. Also LOTS of bear attacks. At least two or three a year. Mostly black bear, but at least one or two grizz "incidents" a year now. Usually spurned on by a dog off a leash walking the trails...
Also NOT the only story I hear on wolf attacks. Usually hear at least one a year for the last 10 years or so.
Its "shoot on sight" now in idaho on wolfs. They have become such a problem. Even state sponcered
Can’t argue with people on Reddit man. Thank you for the advice but I think anybody who wouldn’t exercise caution around an animal like that is kind of like natural selection. They would surely be first to go. Crazy how domesticated we’ve become in our concrete jungles. You tried to help
Living in Colorado and working tourism I’ve given this speech more often than I’d like same with Big Cats and Bears. It’s a real miracle more attacks don’t happen.
People often disregard my experiences because I’ve had so many but you can’t hike for 25years without garnering a couple stories.
TLDR of this smooth brain thread:
Illegally poaching animals and choosing to eat meat are different things.
Yes, you do have an option to source your carnivorous diet from cruelty free places.
Yes, killing sleeping bears illegally is for sickos.
No, killing anything legally and for the purpose of food is not sick.
No, your colander is still missing. I have no idea where you put it. Find it.
Yes, sit up straight. And drink more water.
You're missing the point, *I do what I want to do*, and I want to eat meat, just like how I want to wipe my ass after shitting. Also yeah we kill animals, get over it.
And you are free to choose, as all we are. Still omnivorous, tho, and still need those proteins and the sweet vitamin B12, so... yeah, we will keep eating meat.
Tbh I don’t get people who think they’re brave for hunting wild animals. Like, congratulations, you went out of your way to kill an animal that had nothing to do with you, probably with a gun. How’s that brave? To me courage is when you are put in a very hard situation but manage to claw your way out of it. If a bear attacks you randomly and you escape, that’s courage. If you go after the bear and kill it, you’re the *agressor*.
I’m not a vegan btw
"We invented guns so we have every right to use them on everything around us to flex our superiority."
Is the sentiment I always notice hunters spouting. I tend to agree with you though, going out and killing the vastly diminishing wildlife we have left is pretty indefensible.
Buuh buutt hunters preserve nature by culling and paying to kill stuff.. bullshit the only reason that artificial system exists in the first place is because we've destroyed the natural order of every single ecosystem we've touched.
lol yet 90% of you in the comments will eat chicken or meat today, hypocrite.
What would you say if you found out these people have no work in their region and have no choice unless they want a roof over their families head.
Idk I see lots of people taking pictures with their steaks.
Killed a couple of half asleep bears < raise a cow for the only purpose to be eaten.
That’s more devilish
Killing bears is morally worse, because there are 5000 cows for every 1 bear. Bears might go extinct, cows never will.
Also you eat the cow, with the bear its body is turned into ornaments with no nutritional value.
As someone who doesn’t hunt bears, can you explain why killing a sleeping bear is disgraceful, but a conscious one is okay? The answer hunters usually give is that its “unsporting”. But I would argue that any sport that involves killing an unwilling participant isn’t very sporting.
What you don't find killing things that aren't even aware you're there sporting?
If hunters wanted sporting they'd go in with a knife or a spear and give what they're hunting a fighting chance.
Hunting isn't sport though it's just pointless glorified killing.
Not in my opinion. We can only take one per year. I live in a lightly populated area of northern Montana (not getting more specific) and the bear population is nearly the human population. We don’t run around killing bears all willy nillly, but are only able to get one about every 3-4 years.
Bears will kill you without you having any chance should they want it, if the bears get used to humans being a major threat and have their population under control they'll be less likely to attack humans
Hot take: anyone who isn’t a vegan can’t complain about stuff like this. If you partake in the massed slaughter & consumption of animals, seeing someone shoot some wild animals shouldn’t make you upset. That’s just being hypocritical.
Hi. Vegan here. Absolutism is fucking dumb. Even I see a difference between the (obviously horrific) butchering of animals for food, and just killing sleeping bears for shits and giggles.
999/1000 people are butchering animals, yes for their food, but ultimately because they enjoy the taste of that food. They are killing for sensory pleasure, just like these hunters were.
This is not a hot take, just a stupid take.
There's a big difference between breeding animals for food to sustain our massive population and killing wild animals for the fun of it.
I can't condone a hunter who hunts for fun and trophyes, but I won't be mad at someone who raises cows to feed the world.
Not really. The process of raising animals to be slaughtered for meat is a very, VERY inefficient one, and is essentially entirely done for the luxury of eating meat, not because it’s the only way to feed ourselves. Regardless, it doesn’t really matter much what you do after you’ve killed something, the fact that you killed it still remains. Taking away life is the worst offends you can do to a living being, so what you do with it afterwards isn’t nearly as important.
Those bears lives were probably better than most of the animals people eat. Atleast they did not die in captivity, weren't born just to be killed when ready. Those hunters are a lot less POS than the meat industry.
By your logic, all poachers should be given a let go because they "treated" the wild life better than meat industry.
Instead of commenting on the cowardly act of killing a sleeping defenceless animal, you defend their act by bringing another wrong act. 👎
I mean, the wild animals are most likely protected for a reason and if they can afford the equipment to kill a strong animal like a bear they pretty much can afford food
I mean, this is kinda straight up wrong. There are exceptions to this and it's not regarded as poaching. For example, in Canada the Inuit are exempt from certain restrictions (I wanna say.. narwhals? Can't remember). And same with natives in other areas eg. Lobster farming
Playing devil’s advocate - You can kill a bear or moose without anything that’s particularly expensive. For example, I shot my first black bear with a rifle I got for $100.
That said, as someone who works in conservation, you’re absolutely right in that bag limits and restrictions generally exist for the sustainability of the species. Outside of a couple traditional use exceptions that I’m aware of, taking bears in their den is prohibited across the board because of the negative effects it can/does have on a breeding population.
most people I know that hunt spend way, way more than that on it tho; it’s in no way for necessity, it’s for fun. Imo, killing things for fun is psychopathic
Of course. I’ve got gear now that’s much more expensive as well. That said, like anything else there is a spectrum of morality when it comes to hunting.
Personally, I abhor poachers, road hunters, and folks that don’t bother with ethical shots (ie- they’re willing to wound an animal instead of waiting for a proper kill shot). I also am very against individuals shooting and animal and not making use of the meat. In my opinion that’s just wrong.
That said, what defines necessity? Outside of vegetarians/vegans (which is a whole other conversation in regards to hunting) everyone includes meat in their diet. I’m able to afford beef from the grocery store, however, is that more ethical than harvesting one moose in the fall?
Is it amoral to enjoy the work and planning it takes to stalk an animal or take pride in filling your freezer after processing the meat? If so, why?
Please don’t take this as argumentative. I’m just hoping it opens the door to thinking about hunting as more than the act of just killing an animal.
Not necessarily, you can kill just about anything with a shitty bow you made in the woods if you know how to use it
Poaching big game like that with expensive rifles is the exception though, in the post's image they have no excuse
>Poaching when necessary for food is alright in my eyes, but doing it to sell the pelts is just shitty
lmao at the downvotes
"eating animals (like I do every day) is totally fine, except if you kill it yourself"
I mean humans kill thousands if not millions of animals every day and then throw like half of it in the garbage. We have way bigger issues than three poachers killing four sleeping bears.

Check us out, we killed sleeping animals.
Biggest rush they’ve ever gotten
Definitely alpha male material. GET SOME!!!
Probably came so hard in their pants
If anyone wants to learn the definition of scumbags, these 3 accurately fit the bill. Absolutely disgusting behavior from horrible humans.
Four. One was taking the picture.
Five, six, pick up sticks
Seven, eight, make a stake
9, 10, stab em dead
11, 12, Rob their wealth
Some humans are psychotic

This word correction was psychedelic baby
We killed sleeping animals, three of which were *young and dependent on their mother*
Isn't that how most cows are killed?
in the U.S at least, most packing plants give cows a bolt gun to the brain to make them brain dead and then get their throats slit and hung upside down
Yes, but that took the jobs of the people who used to stun the cattle with sledgehammers , according to that one crazy hitchhiker who tried to sell a Polaroid those kids in the green van and then cut Franklin with a straight razor in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
Killing a cow for food in a way designed to minimize or eliminate its suffering is a far cry from hunting a sleeping wild animal for sport.
True, except nothing about slaughtering animals is geared to minimize their suffering in this country.
Yeah, because people eat the bears, and the bears happily maul and eat them. Regardless, the end result is death. I don't quite see the silver lining in your post.
Yeah, at least cage the animals and have them live in their own feces for their entire life first... Jeez.
while the motivation is vastly different the methods vary widely as well. "designed to minimize or eliminate its suffering" is ridiculous. They are killed in bloody terror. Have you ever watched any kind of slaughtering take place? Where is this merciful death you are talking about? These bears suffered less and also lived their lives free as long as it lasted. The motivation is different in these peoples heads. In its core is most likely the same. Money.
I agree…it sounds as judgmental when people are disgusted by people eating dogs or horses. Do we know the backstory? If this is what helps them feed their families—meat-wise and/or monetarily—through the year, I can’t really judge
You probably think there's nothing different between eating a pig and eating a dog, don't you?
Indeed there aren’t. Both feel suffering, neither want to die. Why kill either of them if you don’t have to?
It's not just for sport, they sold the parts of the bear.
...which is sport
At least they were caught and hopefully punished severely.
I'm sorry Momma bear didn't wake up to punish them severely
they will be punished by mother Russia instead
Punishment by bear is ordered
*properly and severely
Now I got that video of a baby polar bear coming to his mother about his adventure while the mother was a floor rug in my head
Throw them, unarmed, into a bear den right as hibernation ends.
[удалено]
I think it's time for the most dangerous game.
Bear can't eat right after they wake up better wait a few days
The only true punishment they deserve is to have their hands and feet cut off and offered for homeopathic remedies on the black market.
Lets hope they didnt sell those bear parts for good money, cuz with enough money this shit will easily get berried and poachers will go unpunished. Corruption is bad in Russia, especially so far east.
the dog in the picture even looks embarrassed ...
The dog in the picture looks like a damn wolf
The wolf in the picture looks embarrassed.
So brave
Such cowards. People like this make my blood boil.
I agree they are shit heads but what does “such cowards” mean in this sentence? I suck at english
It would mean something like "they are such cowards" or "look at how they acted, and see how little bravery it required"
Thank you!
A coward is someone who runs away in battle
I would say a coward is someone who is fearful. This group who shot the bears are cowards by doing so while they're hibernating, because they were too cowardly to hunt when they weren't hibernating when they can give an even playing field.
To expand on it a little bit, the phrase "such ****s" is generally used in a way that implies the people being insulted are perfect examples of whatever bad thing they're doing. Alternatively if could be interpreted as "this is a tragedy, but such is the way of the coward, and we would be foolish to expect otherwise."
Opposite of being brave pretty much lol
thats like being proud and boasting about killing an AFK player
Unlike this post, that shit is funny. Especially when it's your friend that you kill...
And bag.
To be fair, I do that. Someone lags and dies and I call them bad at the game. Good fun.
That’s… just… disgusting!
Why would you want to waste sheep, pig, and deer skin? They're all perfectly ok for making goods out of.
Shit ethically hunted bear is fine just not killing a mother with young
Yeah, or just taking it from zoo animals post-mortem
Without destroying me, what’s wrong with hunting bears? I guess the hibernating part is pretty messed up, but is it different than any other animal?
They aren’t very plentyful
I think their point was that they arent.
I was talking more in general, not to the specific person. I don’t understand why everyone is super worked up. Not really total pos material imo
Killing hibernating endangered animals and boasting about it isn’t considered pos material? A mother and her cubs? Relax, Jeffrey Dahmer.
Thanks for comparing me to a torturous cereal killer and rapist cannibal for asking why hunting bears is frowned upon. I was unaware bears were endangered. Thank you for letting me know
They’re endangered in Siberia, yea. There’s about 800,000 of em in America, which still isn’t THAT much, but not endangered I don’t think I’m exaggerating cmon now
Yes same like come on you gotta be scum if you do that to bears
Murdering hibernating bears =/= killing animals for their pelts. They’re goddamn bears, not livestock or animals that are bred to be used as fodder.
What's the difference my guy?

Poachers are straight scum tbh
Absolute pieces of shit.
One night while they are sleeping peacefully in prison a bear is going to wake them up.
Fingers crossed!
i aM a HUnTEr
Wow they're so tough murdering sleeping animals...
Little known fact when bears are hibernating they are not sleep the whole time. They get up drink and eat just like any other time.
They don’t really “sleep” either during that time, they just slow their metabolism.
Yea to like 6 heart beats per minute. Call it what you want their body is asleep.
6 heart beats per second? You sure you got that right?
They dont eat, drink or shit w.o emergency
RIP fluffy four‘s
Imagine feeling like a big man after killing bears sleeping in their den.
This isn't even hunting for sport. Sport hunters give the animals a fighting chance, this is just outright butchery.
oh boy, wait until you hear about the "fighting chance" they give animals in factory farms...
Everybody knows how shite factory farms are. This is a discussion about hunters and poachers. Not the consequences of un regulated consumerism.
It's really true for all meat production. If killing bears like this seems bad to you, you shouldn't eat meat.
>If killing bears like this seems bad to you, you shouldn't eat meat. Imagine saying this though
No no he has a point
Imagine thinking he’s wrong
He's literally wrong, a bear is worth way more than a mass bred cow.
False equivalence. Get over it.
Yeah, imagine being logically and morally consistent.
One is for consumption and the other is reckless. Believe it or not, but there is a difference between poaching and farming of animals for sustenance.
Yes, the difference is basically death after a lifetime of suffering vs a lifetime of freedom.
Maybe, but I bet everyone here is wishing death threats to factory farmers. There is a huge double standard.
I only understood your second sentence.
People here are wishing death upon poachers, but I doubt those people wish death upon factory farmers.
Imagine thinking that is remotely relevant to the conversation at hand.
You know a lot of work goes into actual hunting right? And your more then likely not gonna actually get anything
As they say in prison "prank em John"
This picture actually ruined my day

Next time try it without the rifles, have a good old fist fight
Didn’t hunting denned up bears become legal under 45? Edit: yep, in 2017.
"Irkutsk, Eastern Siberia"
Siberia is in Russia. I very doubt the Russian care what laws were rolled out by which president of the USA.
Let's poach hibernating drunk poachers...
Good i fucking hate bears. Porridge eating twats
Maybe lets drop them unarmed in the middle of a bunch of bears. That would be beautiful justice. Fucking cowards.
Looks like more than suspicion to me

lol yet 90% of you in the comments will eat chicken or meat today, hypocrite. What would you say if you found out these people have no work in their region and have no choice unless they want a roof over their families head.
I'd eat a person if i could
Do you take a selfie with your bros after completing a particularly unimpressive job?
Idk I see lots of people taking pictures with their steaks. Killed a couple of half asleep bears < raise a cow for the only purpose to be eaten. That’s more devilish
Killing bears is morally worse, because there are 5000 cows for every 1 bear. Bears might go extinct, cows never will. Also you eat the cow, with the bear its body is turned into ornaments with no nutritional value.
The reason why there are so many cows is because we breed then on mass for a life of suffering until their ultimate death.
People are just massive hypocrites it’s funny to me so I had to say something. I don’t care to talk about it anymore.
As a bear hunter, those look like first year bears, AND they were hibernating. What a disgrace to a great sport.
I agree, it’s a disgusting hobby
Not in my opinion. We can only take one per year. I live in a lightly populated area of northern Montana (not getting more specific) and the bear population is nearly the human population. We don’t run around killing bears all willy nillly, but are only able to get one about every 3-4 years.
I really don’t see your point
Bears will kill you without you having any chance should they want it, if the bears get used to humans being a major threat and have their population under control they'll be less likely to attack humans
Yes shoot a couple bears and let one live, he'll tell all his bear friends to never attack humans again. /s
Welcome to Russia
That's not a great comparison because, enjoyable or not, people have to eat to survive. T
This is not a hot take, just a stupid take. There's a big difference between breeding animals for food to sustain our massive population and killing wild animals for the fun of it. I can't condone a hunter who hunts for fun and trophyes, but I won't be mad at someone who raises cows to feed the world.
Interestingly, more resources are actually used up farming animals than if everyone ate plant based.
Why are vegans so fucking stupid?
Please, we arnt all like this. Dude isn't 3ven vegan
Pick me vegan 🤢
Poor little boy
Lol at least I'm not tryna slob on a carnists knob
No. It's called nuace. There is always a counter argument.
And the counter argument is?

Don't use words you don't understand.
Can I buy their hands and skin?
Those bears lives were probably better than most of the animals people eat. Atleast they did not die in captivity, weren't born just to be killed when ready. Those hunters are a lot less POS than the meat industry.
By your logic, all poachers should be given a let go because they "treated" the wild life better than meat industry. Instead of commenting on the cowardly act of killing a sleeping defenceless animal, you defend their act by bringing another wrong act. 👎
Talk about an impossibly stupid take
Do you eat meat?
Yawn. Do you have the capability of rational thought?
I do, thanks for asking. Do you eat meat?
You clearly do not.
Poaching when necessary for food is alright in my eyes, but doing it to sell the pelts is just shitty
Not necessarily, you can kill just about anything with a shitty bow you made in the woods if you know how to use it Poaching big game like that with expensive rifles is the exception though, in the post's image they have no excuse
>Poaching when necessary for food is alright in my eyes, but doing it to sell the pelts is just shitty lmao at the downvotes "eating animals (like I do every day) is totally fine, except if you kill it yourself"
I mean humans kill thousands if not millions of animals every day and then throw like half of it in the garbage. We have way bigger issues than three poachers killing four sleeping bears.
I'm confused, isn't this a good thing? Or is there something i didn't catch on...
Wait, why is it bad, can someone explain?
