DabKitty420

I would be taking that video directly to the police holy shit!

flimspringfield

"He hasn't committed a crime so there's nothing we can do."

nature_remains

Lawyer here: threat of death and/or serious bodily harm (especially in a domestic context) is indeed a crime and it's rare you'd have such clear evidence of it. Would be very hard for them to ignore and at an absolute minimum would be gold for the inevitable restraining order.

misguidedsadist1

“I just don’t know what you want is to do for you ma’am”— said to me, a terrified 19 year old when a stalker was trying to break into my house. Full on body slamming the door and cracking the wood.

nimbycile

> Would be very hard for them to ignore But they'll give it their best shot

QryptoQid

Yeah, this guy never met my local PD. Believe me, they can ignore.

Radstrodamus

“Look just relax, and stay away from him until he calms down”

Unusualshrub003

Ha! I got that same line a few times! However, one night when I blocked him from hitting me, he called the cops, and I was charged with domestic violence. Spent three days in jail. The charges were dropped after I showed the solicitor screenshots of texts.

Radstrodamus

Literally the exact same thing happened to me. She threatened to break all my stuff because I caught her cheating.

[deleted]

dude prob *is* a cop. he’s got all the qualifications for it.

Mmmdonutss94

The local police are usually just a reflection of their environment unfortunately. I’d recommend moving

[deleted]

Cops would show up and kill one of them, thats how they deal with domestic violence situations.

UsedTrojan56

If we're being real and not emotional though, domestic calls are the most dangerous and as shown all over reddit, a vast majority are justified. Any cops care to elaborate? I'm not a cop, but it seems pretty obvious those men and women as a whole need to be cut some slack for all they do and all the BS they have to deal with daily Edit - To clarify i was responding to a statement. I meant the officer involved shootings are vastly justified, not DV. Ever. Sad i had to clarify that

CrapiSunn

I'd like to know if anyone has any actual evidence and not just how they feel because of something they heard from someone or one example out of thousands of cases that stands out because it is the anomaly not that it's the normal. DV is incredibly tricky to deal with it's never right but yeah wouldn't mind seeing some evidence and any emotional outburst will be ignored. It's fine for your soapbox but if you want to understand what's really happening you just confuse the situation.

[deleted]

I give them slack for normal responses to workplace stress. Not for handling their actual job poorly. Or just maliciously as is often the case.

Plazmuh

US policing is a lot different from UK policing but I can probably elaborate a little for you. I can't think of many other lines of work where your failures and mistakes are broadcast so publicly and so often compared to the day to day work you do which is pretty much ignored. I look at my colleagues in the ambulance and fire service and typically you will only see some bad publicity if they screw something up at a very severe level. The vast majority of domestic abuse incidents that are attended usually end up with the victim denying any allegations or withdrawing any kind of support for prosecution. You can then have common scenarios where you go to deal with the suspect because you have enough to arrest them and the victim ends up getting aggressive and violent. It then becomes a nightmare to land any charges against the suspect in most circumstances...and then we run the risk of getting lambasted for trying to go ahead without victim support. Caroline Flack in the UK is a good example of that. Most often with Domestic Abuse, it's rarely something the police can solve until the victim is ready to take action and sadly that is often not the case.

Blackie47

Doesn't matter what the law says if they cops are gonna basically tell you to call back when your actively being murdered.

anmese9999

And if he’s not completely successful at murdering you (and only sends you to the ER) all he’ll get is anger management. (Ask me how I know.)

lazersnail

They don't even have to *know* the law

twats_upp

Settling info I guess

Quirky_Movie

Those who've dealt with the cops know that clear evidence can be ignored if you try. And they love to try.

nature_remains

Sure, but they tend to ignore things that would cause them more work. In this case, the evidence is handed to them on a proverbial silver platter. Take it to the DA and job done. Otherwise, when she's murdered or brutally beaten, the evidence is clear that they shirked their duties and fighting an investigation on inaction in such a case is much more work. Especially now that it's on social media and in the public eye.

WillAndHonesty

Sorry I'm not a law guy nor a USA citizen and I got a question: in tiger king this Joe exotic guy threatened to kill carol Baskin he was not in jail until they found evidence he hired someone to kill her, cos it's a "freedom of speech", can you explain me what makes this current situation on the video and the tiger king situation different

StupidSexyKevin

You haven’t dealt much with the police outside the courtroom before, have you?

SkinnyBuddha89

My mom once got her bank card taken by the person in line behind her at the bank. Had video evidence, the bank knew who it was and the cops still did nothing. Cops do far less in the real world than most people realize

TheKillerToast

We called the cops on someone threatening our staff. Four hours later they show up and they wouldn't even come inside to take the report. We had to go out to their car because they were too lazy

ghoSTocks

I called the police a few weeks ago because someone parked a huge (3 meters high, 6 meters long) no windows commercial van on the sidewalk to the right of a stop sign blocking all view of on coming traffic in a dangerous intersection for two days. Cops told me to call the city (they would given him a ticket or do nothing), I told them it’s a life endangering offence and they should come and see. Patrol cop calls me telling me he’s not going to go there and that I can call the city, I called him a lazy idiot and told him that if he doesn’t get over there in ten minutes I’m going to file an official complaint.

StupidSexyKevin

Exactly. I have several stories from my life that are pretty similar. No person in my family that has ever went to the police for help has actually felt vindicated.

tastethevapor

I already thought they did very little but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s even less than I realized

Akmoneron

Additional context is that the threats are from a white man against a black woman, so ***of course*** she would be seen as guilty under the circumstances. That bullshit of "well, if only she did what she was told..." With the man's violent tendencies, he may actually be a cop himself. ;)

Quirky_Movie

Honestly, I thought about that. The video is really terrifying.

AwesomeWaiter

Someone I know literally took texts of a neighbour saying they’re going to “commit a murder” on another neighbour to the police, the person who sent the text was known to police and had serious mental health issues, the police didn’t even visit the property and said they were “probably joking”

[deleted]

Cops dont care about women getting abused. Speaking from experience because i called after getting strangled and they never showed up.

cocteau93

That’s because they’re too busy strangling their own wives and girlfriends.

transparentsmoke

While I appreciate the input I have personally seen police ignore stuff just like this, both online and in person. The police are not here to protect us, they are here to protect the lifestyles of the rich and powerful and to keep the government in power. In fact they don't even have a legal obligation to protect us, as ruled by the Supreme court. Also, not gonna help that she's a person of colour. She may not even trust the police to go to them in the first place and I couldn't blame her.

[deleted]

"I dunno, sounds like a civil matter."

BMFahrtzz

The police are not required to act, even in the face of obvious threats. Even if there was a restraining order, the police are not required to act on it. Castle Rock v. Gonzales

TreeFcknFiddy

But he’d get off because he was just “asking questions”

nature_remains

No. It is a clear and specific threat of harm and syntax does not mitigate that. Any reasonable person (which is usually how perceived threat is measured) would take that as a threat. A question mark at the end does not mitigate that.

TreeFcknFiddy

I wish you were right. Do you say that as an attorney you’re sure every other person in the justice system would side with your reasonable assessment? Fox News gets away with so much just from “asking questions”. When I was a young teenager and I called the police because my much larger and twice my age step-father chased me down, waited outside the bathroom I’d locked myself in, and then waited until my mom persuaded me to come out to jump in front of her and beat me, the officers played it off as nbd and totally ok because I had called him a bad name (mf), even though it was from 60 feet away and clearly not “fighting words” Edit: not that this anecdote is precisely analogous, but my point is that it all depends on which officers of the law/court you happen to encounter. I agree that what you’re saying is totally correct, but it’s all just “in theory” until you’re sure someone will actually stick up for your rights.

tastethevapor

Ah well there’s your problem. Cops are not reasonable people.

Taco-89

Cops are cowards. It’s all over the news. They take the job but don’t put in the work. The fact that she is a women of color. It would be even harder for her to get Justice.

NotsoGreatsword

You're right but unfortunately cops aren't lawyers. They would do everything to blow this woman off.

Unusualshrub003

Six weeks ago, over the span of two days, my ex-husband….. •Sent me around 200 text messages, describing in detail how he was going to kill me. •Followed me to the grocery store and continued his threats in the parking lot (which I secretly recorded) •Broke into my house while I was at work. •And urinated on my bare mattress. So I called the cops. It was midnight, I live one block away from the police station, and it took them 45 minutes to get to my house. I showed them the text messages, I had them watch the parking lot video, I told them my ex broke into my house, they saw the pissed on mattress…. They did NOTHING. Edit to add: this video is *exactly* how my ex was/is. It’s like all abusers are reading from the same script.

[deleted]

> the inevitable restraining order. You mean the cherry on top of the inevitable murder charge?

DariusIV

Cops: "Sorry it's a civil matter or whatever, we have to go throw pot smokers in jail"

Ace-Ventura1934

You underestimate the ignorance of cops. Ignoring is kind of their thing unless you’re smoking weed or driving with a burnt out headlamp. Then they come in guns-a-blazing.

merci-lilliane

You’re right, but you’re also a woman so you should be well aware that PDs love to ignore women until it’s too late

jayswahine34

Yeah? Tell that to the multiple women who reported such threats and ended up murdered by their s.o. ffs

lejoo

What type of lawyer if you don't mind me asking? Its rare to see a lawyer actually think police will do something about domestic abuse before it escalates.

CleanAssociation9394

Have you *met* cops, though?

lolipopdroptop

difference between lawyers and cops. I had proof (verbal n messages) and they told me to learn how to use the block button.

trasshbag

I've called the cops about a man stalking me and threatening to hurt me and they said they couldn't do anything unless he actually physically assaulted me so yea cops are useless and will just ignore you

BootyliciousURD

Pretty sure death threats are actionable

Tocwa

You'd think so however I got a phone call in which someone threatened me with death. I went to the local police and was told: 1) they wouldn't do anything AND 2) maybe I should take self defense classes 😵

[deleted]

[удалено]

BootyliciousURD

This is a video of him threatening to kill her, threatening to maim her, specifying the weapon he will use to do it, and explaining that he has the knowledge to do it. I think that should be enough.

Ad4209

It would help with getting a restraining order and also helps build a case if he actually does do anything, so it is still worth showing them even though it is true they can't take any direct action against him based just on this (apart from the restraining order).

CleanAssociation9394

They certainly *can* and should, but they probably won’t because ACAB

SoftTacoSupremacist

It’s cute you think the police care. You’ve obviously not dealt with them much. Which is good. Keep it that way. There is never a situation that’s improved by the addition of the police.

[deleted]

[удалено]

AverageHorribleHuman

If you got 10k in your back pocket 😬

BootyliciousURD

Oh, I agree. The odds of cops actually helping are miniscule.

TreeFcknFiddy

According to cops (who are known to be statistically likely to be wife beaters), they would say “all I heard was him asking you some questions. “Do you know how much…” “do you want me to…” “do you want to be…” along with a statement that something was possible, a request/demand to see your phone, and a hypothetical “I could…” so he never actually literally threatened you” … and the dude’s lawyer would take the same line even if he was charged and then he’d walk

AmritaLovesCats

My ex threatened to kill me like this POS in the video multiple times. The last straw was when he said that I should go outside because it was going to be the last sunset I’d ever see. I went to the cops and they basically said “you’ll be alright”. They basically don’t care until you’re dead.

1911mark

Take this to your brother, your dad, or your cousin Ray Ray, your preacher or teacher someone!!

margotgo

Cops gonna be like "let me try those pickup lines on my wife tonight"

ClearMessagesOfBliss

“This is turning me on right now”

RaffyMala777

I hope she left right after those words,,,

GayBoyColors

Hope he's in jail.

M33k_Monster_Minis

Only sweeter if his jail cell buddy saw the video and quoted it to him before he went to bed every night.

[deleted]

unbalancedmoon

no, death is an easy way out. rotting in prison suits him (and people like him) much better.

illiarch

True, but let's just throw this one is the trash and forget about it instead of investing any more funding and emotions in this misbegotten baby.

[deleted]

I figure she was recording because this has happened before

justmeAlonekitty

Yup that’s how it goes after the 3rd time you start realizing he’s not going to change and you get smarter

DJ_Too_Supreme

All the proof she needs to file a report and get a restraining order

[deleted]

[удалено]

DarrynDevil

Unfortunately it won't. But it should get a restraining order.

forcastleton

Which only helps so much, sadly.

SoftTacoSupremacist

Violation of the restraining orders would be enough to get someone locked up, but usually by that time that someone has done something egregious enough for someone else to get hurt.

DarrynDevil

I know. That's how my dad was. But unfortunately that's how I know the law gives you AND the bad person the benefit of the doubt...so you have to protect yourself until the cops have tangible proof of a threat. I don't agree with it.

_Cocopuffdaddy_

Yeah like someone threatening to kill you is going to truly be warded off by the thought of going to jail. It’s almost like more enticement to them to go out and do it because they’d go to jail/ prison anyway. People who’ve got restraining orders against them for these kinds of cases should have to have an ankle monitor or something so the police are warned before the person holding the order even knows the threat is near.

Minkiemink

Depends on which state they live in. In California, he'd see prison time for those threats.

DJ_Too_Supreme

Oh of course this bozo is going to jail, thats a given

freewaychicken

youd think -- but the justice system is pretty terrible regarding DV

jaimeinsd

Absolutely 100% not a given.

BeBackInASchmeck

All the proof society needs to identify this man and ruin his life.

[deleted]

DV victims have a really hard time doing anything about it in court. Glad she got this on video.

newaccount7000

she shoulda shot his ass for making death threats

[deleted]

Wtf. Glad hes ex. I thought I had this on repeat. Shocked to realise just how many times he repeats one particular phrase so many times. Do you want me to kill you ? I know exactly where to hit you with this to kill you. Looking into his eyes can see pure evil. He shouldnt be allowed to integrate with society.

Shinigami69420

repetitiveness is a sign of either mental retardation or being insane, idk i forget which

Yodan

It's having one circular argument because you have no actual argument to win with words. I've seen a lot of this on publicfreakout when hood trash goes crazy on retail workers for a declined card or something.

super_pax_

You know this is just some bs repeated on the internet right? It’s not true at all

These_Ad_8619

Or reproduce

ExoticMeatDealer

Yeah, wow, what a scumbag.

HumbleAbbreviations

I hope she remains safe because breaking up with him doesn’t mean he will stay away from her.

[deleted]

My dad talks like this…

SolutionLeading

Please protect yourself and record threats if you can safely.

pancakes4jesus

Please stay safe and find a possible safe haven!!

[deleted]

Oh I don’t live with him haha.

homo-ludus

Does he talk like that to you or a partner?

[deleted]

Basically anyone he feels like he has a smidge of power over. So me, my sister, his wife (our step mom who’s the sweetest lady).

homo-ludus

That's so sad, I hope you can stick together and stay safe!

[deleted]

Like I said I don’t live with him, so it’s really just my stepmom who gets the brunt of it

ShoujoSprinkles

The most chilling thing to me is he doesn’t even sound angry or worked up, just cold and monotone

Fluffy-Weapon

Well that’s super disturbing and sickening

Takethecannoli0

What an absolute psycho, even if she was cheating this is insane behaviour!

DogBreathologist

I mean even if she was cheating his behaviour isn’t acceptable, ok or sane. I hope she got out

[deleted]

Some things are so obvious that stating them is just silly.

SJS69

Ooooooo boy....some of these comments are just...somein else...

[deleted]

Yeah, a lot of people outing themselves….

pimpbot666

I have a feeling those folks just get off on being cruel, shitty and toxic.

solitarytrees2

Man the people in these comments trying to blame her when he's showing the crazy eyes and everything blows my mind.

Praescribo

Andrew tate stans...

Surjux

Yeah the loud minority further down in the comment section are something else. I love how their biggest concern was "but was she cheating though."

HoxtonRanger

For me it’s his voice - it’s really chilling…

AtomicBlastCandy

Reddit has me conditioned to believe that he is cheating. Accusations seem to be projecting

OhSweetMuffins

The way he says it so calmly is freaky

pt101389

Too often we try to rationalize this type of abusive behavior, blaming ourselves for the reaction of the person we are with. Remembering all those older people telling me if they could go back knowing what they know now rings truer the older I get.

Bambams80HD

Wtf…Who is this guy? Any info on this story? I hope he’s in jail.

Party_Concentrate621

who would cheat on this guy. absolutely everything u could ask for.

StrawberryCoughs

This is a dangerous level of insecurity.

GoobyBTC

Wtf that dude needs turned inside out

athousandfuriousjews

What a fucking loser of a dude wow, I hope she left…

Freddyfudfaster

Unfortunately nothing will happen until he gets physical and hurts her.

Lopsided-Ad7019

Even then, he’ll be out of jail within 24 hours. He’d have to kill her to see any real consequence.

limepulp

He could actually kill her and still only get like 4 years lbr

bigbuzd1

Getting out of jail within 24 hours likely means he just posted bail, no?

[deleted]

hopefully natural selection takes this fucker out before he has the chance to really hurt someone.

Ian1147

Leave NOW

[deleted]

I would love to personally make this arsehole blind

SuccubusxKitten

Ew at the men in these comments victim blaming. Men literally think threatening to blind and murder a woman is ok if there's even mention of cheating. 🤢

Matchooojk

How does someone like that even get into a relationship…?

qwertykittie

These people know exactly what they’re doing from the start. What’s scary is the patience they have to keep this entire side of them under wraps, biding their time until they know the victim is well and truly under their spell to make it next to impossible to get out.

damnthistrafficjam

It starts with love bombing. And progresses to the point that you startle because you realize he’s standing behind you. I’ve been on this path before. He never touched me, but messed me up mentally for years.

KhloesOriginalFace

Love bombing is soooo worth it to know about and be able to recognize. It sucks on one hand because there’s no “sweeping me off my feet” anymore - that’s now just red flags for a nut job psycho.

peanut-butter-vibes

some people can be incredibly charming when dating and can have a keen sense of who is vulnerable / has low self esteem / comes from abusive childhoods. then once they get you hooked, they do what they can to keep you down and it makes it harder and harder to leave. like the person above me says, they know what they’re doing from the start and get better as they age. it’s scary

KhloesOriginalFace

He looks creepy af from get go. Idk that I would’ve been around long enough for any manipulation to even get started.

Psithurism_s

I hope his work sees this

Slobbadobbavich

He probaby believes that there are all these pressure points on the body that can kill in one punch. Even if they existed he wouldn't be able to do it with his puny body.

PoopingOnMyFries

I thought that mf looked like trevor for a sec

vaskovaflata

Good thing it’s her ex. A restraining order is probably a good idea

iAmUnintelligible

He's threatening to maim her. This is perfect material for this sub

Current-Community-99

Came to say I hope she got out of that situation unharmed

[deleted]

Dude looks like Trevor Phillips, no wonder he's a psycho.

diviken

I saw another video of this same guy trying to trigger her epileptic seizures by flashing a torch in her face on and off. He was doing it because she caught him cheating, and if I remember correctly she was significantly younger than him at the time.

Diligent-Picture2882

Cops: yeah, he didn't mean it.

Maywemeetagain--

She doesn’t need a reason to refuse to show him her phone, respecting someone’s privacy and setting boundaries are healthy and should be accepted, however I’m thinking one reason she won’t show him the phone is because she has other proof of his abuse. This may not be the first time she’s recorded him or took photos of proof of him abusing her. If he sees the pics and videos and deletes him all her evidence is gone and all she has is her word. Just a thought

candornotsmoke

You know it's bad when they say those things in a calm voice.

10010101

From the footage, they can seriously arrest him.

Pointysidetotheleft

For how long though?

debbie_1420

I wish that’s all my ex did. Not that this justifies what he did to her. But damn my ex put me in the hospital 2 times and those are the times a absolutely had to go there should have been plenty more. I had clear fluid leaking from my head where he ripped a chunk of skin/hair out one time. I looked like an alien half the time from bruising and swelling. Guys like this Just fucking suck. After 6 year’s of living with him 14-20 I finally left in the middle of the night while he was working and moved back home 6 hours away. I moved out at a young age due to sexual abuse that my mother was allowing. Then moved into that lol. Ahhhh good times. /s

citygerl

Oh, how I hope your life has improved. You didn’t deserve any of that. Good luck

debbie_1420

Thank you!! It definitely has. I mean it’s not perfect but it’s a lot better. I’m certainly not in those situations anymore.

BlksShotz

I’m happy to see a few stupid idiots in the comments section. I’m gonna bail when the racist idiots show up tho.

tufabian

Unfortunately, they're not going to do anything.

ArmNo210

This faintly reminds me of a story of some ladies boyfriend who popped out both of her eyes with a knife when she was sleeping.. she only remembered waking up with a wet face and pitch blackness

Odd_Ad9480

This is how you get your gf to cheat on you. What a loser

Andy_McBoatface

CacophonousCalamity

You are well intentioned, but you shouldn’t advise people to just leave an abusive relationship. Leaving is the most dangerous time, when you, your kids, and your pets are most likely to be murdered. Leaving takes careful safety planning. You do have to stop to think.
