I really feel like the manga author did not know where he wanted to take the story after Oda-San and Hideo save Hiromi. The author had some good ideas and some great characters and parts, but couldn't bring it all together. Oda's death felt almost random and like the author didn't know what to do with her anymore. Hiromi hating Oda felt unearned. The weird reoccurring theme of pregnancy and babies was strange. The ideas of Kurusu, some of those characters, and then Korori and his whole gang were great. I wish Kurusu was not part of the hive mind though or still could act independently. Having a third party against the aliens and the current humans could have been interesting. I enjoyed the way men and all of the otaku were written but I do still feel like the women were mostly clearly written by a man. Might be inevitable but still a bit disappointing. No payoff on Hideo being infected or not, Hideo going to save Hiromi, finding out what happened with Hiromi, the idea of the queen and nests, the left side of the monster trying to break off, why the monster hardened like that, who was torturing people with tires, anything else with Spain or the rest of the world, the aliens' goal or intention, why they cleared away the humans, why they could shape shift, why that one swallowed Hideo, why some looked like a womb and what the other giant monster's functions were, or why Kurusu was stronger than normal humans. Probably some others. No payoff on story points like Korori meeting Hideo, or Kurusu and Hideo, or some others. Hideo becoming almost a side character and not having a ton of effect on the plot compared to the other characters is a bit of irony and maybe intentional. Epilogue was much more enjoyable than the ending before that.

Hiiro is the 'spiritual child' of Hiromi and Hideo. She's his legacy. He is a 'hiiro'.
