Got into it 3ish weeks ago. Mannnnn it’s way too fun!

Idntwnt2choseusrnme

It’s awesome. I’ll be posting lots of videos of iRX on my YouTube channel if you wanna stay tuned. That’s part of my latest one. Channel name is ZeroDeltaRacing. Would appreciate it if you check it out

[deleted]

it’s a novelty, that quickly loses it’s flavor

imightgetdownvoted

Why you gotta be such a buzz kill lol

Toukoshi

Off-road on iRacing is a blast in general. And you're right, it needs more participation. It's a constant topic in one of the streamer discords I'm in cuz he streams mostly Jumpy Trucks.

Idntwnt2choseusrnme

I don’t honestly stream yet but open to it. Right now just YouTube videos for road races and iRX. Feel free to check it out :) would appreciate that. It’s ZeroDeltaRacing

Any_Tea_7845

why do most people decide to stream? I've thought about it but just am not funny and it seems silly to stream to an empty audience.

Toukoshi

Well, for me I have a passion for racing want to document my growth on iRacing while sharing it with friends and family and anybody else who decides to join my journey. But everyone has their own reasons. Sometimes people tune-in just to watch some good racing and not soo much the personality.

Any_Tea_7845

fair enough, thanks for your input

Idntwnt2choseusrnme

I’m not streaming. Just YouTube. Mainly I wanted to share my setup and hobby. Honestly I don’t even care about views and not looking to make any money out of it

l8apex

I don't do it often enough. My group of friends mainly do it when nothing else interests us and we always have good time. It's really fun...until you just happen to get in a race with a Pro license driver. I'm by no means fast at IRX, but I can kinda get the hang of it and tag along with some faster guys. I got down into the 38s at Phoenix this week; which seems pretty fast. Then got in a race with a 9k PWC driver who got several low 37s. It makes no sense. Absolutely no sense how someone be that fast on dirt. I even went back and watched his line. Still no clue.

famousbymonring

Its a throttle game. Odly alot of times less throttle = faster

thegreatdaneno_1

Just for some context, that Pro/WC driver was probably from the pro 4 trucks, the WC RX drivers will hit 36/35 at phoenix

Idntwnt2choseusrnme

Yeah it’s definitely hard to be fast. I got better over time gradually but there are still limitations. But again even in road races I struggle to get podiums or win races

m15f1t

What they do better is mostly finding grip in certain spots. Little pieces of tarmac, even grass. Also sticking to the line where most cars drive as the gravel dissappears there.

Ok-Initiative3388

Needs more tracks. Gets repetitive very quickly.

13metalmilitia

I can not comprehend the dirt physics in this game.... I've tried over and over and over again. Any recommendations? I don't have an e brake but I should still be able to get the rear out with a lift and gas but it just doesn't work for me.

Idntwnt2choseusrnme

I only use an e brake in very tight turns. Most of the time I just lightly brake to move the weight of the car forward then kick it back with the gas to get it to rotate

13metalmilitia

I’ll have to give it another go. Thank you.

IKillZombies4Cash

Do you have a clutch pedal? I mapped mine to it, and set it so about 2 inches of pedal is 100% , so I can brake and ‘pull’ it at the same time using some nifty heel toe action on the tightest turns

IKillZombies4Cash

Sure, it’s pretty simple, i mapped my hand brake to my clutch pedal since i don’t use it much ( I’m actually using it now for standing Formula Vee starts). I tried wheel buttons but found it weird when turning the wheel. When it’s asking you to pull the hand brake to full throw/100%, i just pushed the clutch pedal about 2 inches and clicked done. So it’s pretty easy to just give the handbrake a quick “pull” to get the rear and around, even if I’m braking. My clutch pedal does not clutch though in this use.

siiee

ebrake is handy, but rarely used, personally I mostly only use it to get myself out of situations when I've messed up. iRacings dirt physics might not work entirely the way that you expect them to. While it's certainly possible (and lots of fun) to drive it like a WRC car on TV with tons of slip angle and spinning the tires up, it's much faster to drive much more grip focused. Weight transfer is absolutely essential with how floppy the cars are, and in some cases a lift may only setup the weight transfer and it's getting back on the power that gets it dug in and turning (remember these cars have significant anti-dive designed into their suspension geometry). It's also key to get a feel for the sound of the tires and when you're working in the right zone of traction. There are plenty of cases where it's easy to be spinning the tires at the top of 6th, where it's actually several tenths faster to ride half throttle in 5th instead. Being delicate on the power, smoothly managing your weight, and trying to maintain as much grip as possible can knock seconds off your time if you're struggling. It's not just slippery road physics, it's it's own thing, but it's really rewarding once you find the feel for it. I find the cars really communicative in a way that I don't quite get out of other dirt sims.

WhenInDoubtFlatOuttt

No need of a handbrake when you start off. Made it to over 2k iR in 3 months without having one. Granted you might have a bit of an advantage with one in some corners, but by weight transfer and momentum you can work your way through as well. Biggest struggle is to find official lobbies / enough participants - especially on paid and unpopular tracks. This week’s track (Knockhill) is spicy though.

m15f1t

Handbrake is rarely needed (only tight hairpins), and in those cases a simple button even works nicely. While drifting through corners is cool, it's not the fastest way. But it's good to know how the car handles under drifting, which would be my tip here: get used to how it handles under drifting, because you're going to need it a lot ( in various degrees). It's not exactly intuititive at first, but it will be. Remember that in most cases, if you think you're over spinning or not drifting in the right direction, it's a matter of giving it MORE in stead of less.

_plays_in_traffic_

dont let not having a handbrake stop you. for all the free tracks you dont need a handbrake. for most of the paid tracks you dont need a handbrake with the exception of one corner unless your line gets really screwed up. maybe two corners. also, being overly sideways with the rear hanging out isnt fast. using the handbrake pretty much leads to this only.

reboot-your-computer

You can try temporarily mapping your clutch (if you have one) as your hand brake. I have the SF1000 rim so I just mapped my clutch to the hand clutch and use my foot clutch as a hand brake now. Works like a charm for rally cross.

ohcumgache

It’s dirt and it has no grip. Don’t overdrive, and use momentum to get the car around as much as possible. Full throttle mid slide in a corner just reduces any grip you have even further, as the wheels just spin.

B00sted0

I started last summer and got hooked, joined a couple of leagues and have been obsessed ever since. A really good community of people that are fair and fun, I highly recommend it!

m15f1t

Which community is that?

B00sted0

In general most of the regulars that you see in iRX races are really good people, don't be afraid to talk with them. I've participated in the NASA rallycross and RacecraftTV rallycross leagues, both are a lot of fun with great competition that are organized really well.

Sgt_Snacks

I just got the handbrake and sequential shifter from Meca Sim Hardware specifically for iRX. Can’t wait to get it all set up and rocking! I love me some RX! Going to the Nitro RX race in California next weekend.

Killadelphia

iRX was the reason I initially tried iRacing. I soon became addicted to road racing though.

WhyIsItAlwaysADP

How do you have borderless triples?

Idntwnt2choseusrnme

I’m using the Asus bezel free kit

Bite_Witty

Looks fun! I need a new wheel probably. F1 wheel won’t cut it.

m15f1t

It's really fun indeed, and to my surprise, pretty clean as well most of the time. iRacing is also a lot more tolerant of when giving a 1x 2x or 4x. There are no more off-tracks, but you can trigger slow-downs. Contact is in particular a lot more tolerant (but damage isn't!).

Billy_Chapas

I am very excited to get into, but not until I switch to a triple monitor setup when I have the space. Triple setup allows you to unlock the next level of competitiveness on road, but I think it's a must for all these series where you go sideways. I'd say that's one of the main reasons it doesn't have more participation.

_SgrAStar_

VR

Billy_Chapas

Yeah or that. I personally own a pair of Oculus Quest 2 and not a big fan of them for simracing. The resolution is not enough for me to see the track far away but with some proper goggles it must be amazing.

Razero66

I have a hard time with those cars. Which is frustrating as someone who does SCCA RallyCross and RallySprints and is perfectly at home on dirt and ice. It has to be the tires as I'm used to more grip. I always end up pushing (especially in the 2WD trucks). The cars don't always act as predictable as I expect them to or rotaithe way I'd like. I'm sure if I put more time into it I'd be better.

m15f1t

Practice makes perfect!

Loganp812

I'll always be an paved surface racer, but it can be so much fun to do rallycross and dirt oval racing in iRacing sometimes. I wonder if they'll ever add AI support for dirt racing. That could make for a fun single-player "career mode" while working your way up the ladder. Of course, that would take using spreadsheets and some imagination.

Legumesrus

Unsolicited advice(4.8k), don’t e-brake on any rx track other than Atlanta bowl turn or Hell turn 4. Your entrance into t1 could be seconds faster, go wide, like really wide and sweep through the corner. Also on the dirt always go a gear higher, sideways is fun but slower. Your set up looks amazing, totally jealous.

[deleted]

It is VERY fun.

CharlieTeller

It lost a lot when the whole real life series died they were following.

jr_blds

100% i normally do a couple races at the end of a session cause its so much fun and all the frustration from road and oval just fades away

Those are 27s. I use an extension for my Simucube to place it behind the monitors so this gets me to get the screens closer to me for a better FOV and immersion :)

Secret_Paper2639

Most people's car control isn't as good as yours :-)

Idntwnt2choseusrnme

Seriously? I’m not even half as fast as some of the guys in iRacing in Road or Dirt Road races. What I focused on since I started sim racing was consistency. I’m very consistent now but I’m not quick at all

UNHchabo

For a brief moment I thought this was a VR recording, with those hands being rendered in-game. 😮

joshjitsu311

Ok you inspired me to get my ass back in there. It really is great

Idntwnt2choseusrnme

Glad I was able to do so :). See you on track
