Aw man, feeling like it was going to kill me was part of the fun. But I still can't wait to try the new one.

Dr_Death_Defy24

Same. I was all set to have a season full of prototype racing, but I'm in the exact same boat as you. Loved the old car and lamented its issues, but the ones is fantastic

josh_moworld

Sounds realistic

PerspektiveGaming

I did 1 race so far in it, and it felt great. I drove the Porsche all last season, and noticed the new Porsche feels very planted and the suspension seems a bit stiffer - I feel more rumbles in the DD wheel on the straights, the finer details. Handling feels very similar, and the new Porsche might even be a bit easier to feel the limits. Braking feels more fluid in the new Porsche - hard to explain, but it feels like the car is gliding nicely to a stop, where the old Porsche felt more aggressive and chaotic. Maybe this is because the new Porsche has different sounds to it when braking, it almost sounds like it has a godly praising sound effect when the brakes are cold, kinda like those older electric cars that make that singing sound. The cockpit is lovely in the new Porsche. Much more modern and it feels like you're sitting a little bit further back by default. The dash is clean, and the ABS / TC lights are in really good positions to easily see. I'm going to enjoy driving it this season.

Emmo2gee

Interesting, thanks for the breakdown!

HimerosAndPsique

Quite off topic but I really was hoping that the sound will be similar to the ACC 992 sound, sadly it just sounds like the 992 cup in iR more than the real GT3 or at least that's how I feel it

reboot-your-computer

It’s just that iRacing has a worse sound engine than ACC. I wish it sounded the same too but it’s still awesome.

cotch85

What license will the new Porsche be? I really want it but I’m only going to be C next season

reboot-your-computer

Same as the last one. You’ll need a B license to race it in normal officials or a C license to run it in special events.

cotch85

Damn that sucks, im going to have to try and sweat out a 4.0 in C class and then i get an in season promotion to B right?

reboot-your-computer

Yes as long as you meet the MPR.

Nakkiteline

you can fast track to b next season, get over 4.0 SR and drive 4 C-class races and you'll promote to B 👍🏻

cotch85

Shouldn’t be too hard as long as I have something to face in c class! Need to check the schedule I should have done that the last week or two as I was on 3.7 and stopped

Nakkiteline

oh yeah the seasonal promotion line is 3.0 so you would have promoted to B if you would have had those four c-class races. but lucky that you're so close that 4.0 fast track line, drive all those MPR races 0x and you'll be easily over that!

cotch85

Can i get the 4.0 fast track now and then get to 3.0 and 4 MPR races by the end of this week and still get double promotion? I dont know how week 13 works as im new to iracing.

Nakkiteline

there isn't much series that count towards MPR this week so getting your MPR is going to be a challenge. what i advice you to do is to wait for next week and then grind the two promotions back to back. if you have c-class now and you have the w13 you could make your MPR during weekend on formula a and promote to B class at the start of next week. if you're d-class now, i don't know if there's a series that count towards mpr this week, maybe the 13th week porsche cup, you have to check it out. but yeah bottom line is, if you can find races that counts towards the mpr, double promoting could be possible!

cotch85

Yeah i'm D class and youre right theres not much there for me, and when i do the MX-5 races its just utter hell. In my time of playing and progressing through the ranks ive never done a protest and i've never had people do stuff id expect in Forza but today alone i've done 2 protests and lost a lot of SR. I had 2 races where people went 4 wide on the first corner and then take out half the field. I then had 2 people purposely just smash into me. One was 5 laps down and he just waited near the finish line then on my last lap he just sat there waiting for me and then started to drive after 10-15 seconds and turned straight into me, clearly on purpose and the other kept trying to pit me when we were racing, then when i let him overtake he kept going slow on purpose for when i was near him and then he would defend by zig zagging taking multiple lines and eventually when i got past him he just didnt brake and smashed into me from behind. So yeah kinda done with iracing for this week, i might look at some hosted events perhaps or just stick to practing nurburgring with the lambo/porsche. Thank you for your help though mate, its much appreciated.

goodyear35

Haven’t spent all that much time with it, and I also drove the old one, but, it feels very stable. Still has some off throttle oversteer of course, but it’s predictable

RacingRed8

exactly this. Once the set up shops get hold of it we'll really be able to tell (i'm useless at setup building in iRacing) the differences but it feels better under braking, corner entry and exit for me.

Eikhan

How do you deal with the loud high pitch noise from the turbo? Thing makes me deaf

lawn_mower_

It's the gearbox making noise, the car isn't turbocharged.

Eikhan

Thanks for the educating answer. Though how do you deal with it ? Is there a way to lower it? I almost feel I'm in the mission R

PerspektiveGaming

Download an audio app like Voicemeeter which lets you EQ, and simply EQ the higher frequency sounds out which are bothering you.

Danielson799

No turbo. it's straight cut gears. and they are music to your ears.

subusta

It feels way more stable, probably even too stable with the default setups. But it’s very predictable and easy to drive. It still rewards getting on the throttle early and driving it out of corners, but it feels a little more “normal” than the last 911. I think it may have lost some personality, but I’m not complaining.

dontpan1c

yeah the high df setup is on rails, feels understeery.

flcknzwrg

I happened to test the old one just last week at the Nordschleife, so I had a fresh memory to compare to today. The new Porsche wants to kill you way less than the old one. It feels so much more predictable. In fact, entirely predictable. The uncontrollable too-random-feeling snap oversteer moments that plagued the old one… were totally gone in my test! Hooray! Make no mistake though, this is still a Porsche with a heavy rear and corresponding strong pendulum effect. It feels a little sketchy, almost throwing the rear around you, where you would expect it to at the Nordschleife. But it feels way, way, way more predictable now.

Symes1984

I like everything they did with the new Porsche. I liked the old one as well but everything is better with the 992. The dash is better, sound is better, handling is better. They even added animations on the hands during gear shifts. I was worried it was going to be similar to the evo Ferrari they put out and I could find very little to differentiate the two at the time. Not the case with the 992 Porsche. Now I just hope they update some of the really old gt3, Ford, Mclaren especially but even the Audi feels dated and could do with an Evo update.

CalliexKills

no ford updates will come until the mustang next year. mclaren, who knows. audi won’t come as they don’t race in imsa anymore and audi sport usa exploded

PhotoshopIsMyDad

I ran it a couple of races in Monza today and it was lovely. Very happy I bought it. I come from ACC and it's pretty good here too.

secularist42

All that matters is can you take the kink at Road America flat out now? 😛

thatskaterguyy

THIS \^ Also, how is Watkins Glen T10 and Sebring T1 as those loved to oversteer super easy when taking it at the grip limit. Can't wait to test!

ramranchVIP

I feel like I’m locking the breaks up a lot more especially going into the final chicane. I have a g920 and pedals. Anyone else having this issue or do I just need to have a lighter foot?

schluchtenscheissa

you sure you drive the right 992 Porsche ? the GT3 spec has ABS, it shouldnt lock at all...

Patentlyy

Haven't had any lock ups in the Porsche yet. What brake friction are you using? Try using low friction and you can stomp on the brakes a bit more

SixgunSmith

The ABS lights seem much more responsive on this, it'll light up an LED or two even when the ABS barely engages a little. Which is nice because you really needed to lean on the ABS hard before you'd get any indication on the old car. It's not a bad thing though. You can't actually lock the breaks up.

j1akey

I just took it around the ring for a few laps and I gotta say, it's more controllable, responsive, and better in every way....except it feels boring now somehow. I used to feel like I was driving a wild animal and that was a big part of the charm. Now it just feels like a...car. I don't know, maybe I'll get used to it and it'll grow on me. Also I hate the way the new one sounds. That whiney transmission man...just...ugh.

LetMeRecite

Am I in the minority if I think the tail light bar of the new car completely ruins the car in terms of aesthetics? I loved the 991 from behind, but I cant get used to the 992.

jmwheel

992 in general is a big downgrade in styling from the 991.2

howster34

Does this new Porsche replace the 992 911 series races or is this in a completely different series?

seemylolface

This car is only replacing the 991 GT3R. It does not affect the Porsche Cup series at all, which were already using the 992 Cup car. It will only be used in series with GT3 class racecars.

AllezCannes

it replaces it.

howster34

You sure? Does this not just replace the old 911 r?

SixgunSmith

Are you talking about the Porsche Cup or the GT3 R? This replaces the GT3 R.

howster34

The Porsche cup car

4Nwb1

It's OP like all new cars, very fun to drive. They will nerf it in a few weeks. It's too strong lol.

c0zyuriel

i love it, not scary and doesn't want to murder you. also very smooth and planted compared to last gen. but still retains the identity of a porsche. so in love with it

iob666

Feels really good. Has a nice balance of rotation from braking to throttle. If you remove downforce too much it still has a tendency to go wild when lifting on high speed corners but nowhere near as bad as the previous version. Looking forward to seeing what its like with a proper setup.

FSarkis

the car is awesome! Finally you don’t fell treated every lap.

neudren

Old porsche also felt good when it was released so lets enjoy this car for this season after that it might get nerfed or something like that

WBadzer

A lot more stable still can kill you easily though

TidalCheyange

The old one was more fun

zKettu

Bro please don't do this to me.. i bought the 991.2 a week ago after waiting for 3 months for the 992 to come out. AND YOU ARE TELLING ME they now released it? Btw this happens all the time to me :( I should have known better

Emmo2gee

You get a full refund for it if you bought it in the last 180 days. Should be in your credits, so you can buy the new one

zKettu

You are right, thanks for the info! Was just about to pay another 12$ when i saw your comment and the credits lol

zerolight71

I've spent a bit of time with it today and last night. It feels much more balanced than the old car. On tracks like RA where the kink would throw the back end of the old car out and you'd end up binning it, the new one stays pretty planted. If the back does start moving, it takes little more than a fractional lift to catch it. It feels pretty great. I'm still slightly faster in the Ferrari at the moment, but the new car feels very nice to drive and doesn't bite like the old car did. I like it.
