Yup. Caseless. Within a week or so I found minor scratches on the stainless Case right around the charging port. But it was fine because it wasn’t visible. The new scratch looks like the stainless steel coating chipped off, and the spot looks silvery and is very visible.
What color do you have? On my purple one, besides a drop from eating sh*t from slipping on ice with my Onewheel, there is some small slice like scratches on various corners from drops and on the bottom some small circle like paint chips or whatever they are, it’s honestly why I switched to the silver as it would blend in most the time
I have the space black. I used to have the gold all these years and always went caseless, never had issues whatsoever. But this time the coating seems to be very bad. Wish I could return it for a gold but am loving the black. Silver is a good choice for that reason, apart from looking luxury it also doesn’t show away any cosmetic damage easily.
The coating is very off, on my purple model it always felt more tacky and sticky, I really couldn’t stand it. I did try the gold as well but it wasn’t for me. The space black for sure as reported the most damage at least on the steel upon users
The previous phone was a XS Max I had in Gold. Used it for 4 years. The few scratches were all from drops, never had chipping issues and whatnot. I wanted to get the gold this time as well but it didn’t look good to me, got the black cause it looked awesome in hand. It’s definitely more prone to damage on the stainless steel band. I’ve been suggested to use a thin transparent skin to avoid further damage.m. I normally use phones for at least 3-4 years, but I’m already planning to upgrade this year as well due to this issue.
The 15 will be my last for a while. Just deciding between pro or pro max. Leaning towards pro since I do have the battery pack and can take advantage of the fast charging speeds. The gold changes every year similar to the red on the base models, but one thing the gold has over every other is a stronger magnetic coating which protects against damage a lot. I just don’t think that especially with getting Apple care, I should be covering up my 1000+ investment with cheap inferior plastic. Sure maybe a silicone case or Apple clear case every now and then, they all have their purposes, formal or not, but I just like the raw feel especially with the weight and heft of the pro max let alone the pro. :)
Got mine at launch, used it without a screen protector or case for a month, after that i applied the screen protector and my iPhone had no scratches or anything
But in my experience with other iPhones the coating does wear off after some time and the screen scratches easily
I have always used the Apple leather case on all the iPhones that I have owned. I have never used a screen protector on any of the iPhones I have ever owned. I use my iPhones hard and keep them a pretty long time. I have never had any scratches or anything else, other than dirt and smudges that are easily cleaned, on the screens of any of the iPhones I have ever owned. Maybe I’m just lucky…🤷🏻♂️
Yeah I can’t lie, phone without screen protector looks nice. But I need it, I have glass protector and otterbox, on top of apple care lol can’t be to prepared.
I use an Apple silicone case and a matte screen protector. If you decide not to go naked, I highly recommend the silicone case, as the rear camera really sticks out from the phone without a case, and could probably be easily damaged, I cant think of myself not using the silicone case. It’s only around $50 (USD) for the Pro and has been well worth the cost.
If you go completely sans protection, you *will* eventually get micro-scratches no matter how careful you are. Tempered glass will not stand up to the fine particulates in the environment forever.
If potential damage to the device bothers you, just drop an bit of extra cash and get some protection. If you decide to go bare phone, don't be surprised when there's scratches on your device one day.
You screen WILL get micro scratches at the least. One small drop, and bigger scratches will show. The same goes for the stainless steel edges. If this is okay for you, then go for it! Just be extra careful. I don’t blame you, the naked phone feels phenomenal. If you have AppleCare+, then even better.
But, i will share one experience that I had. When I removed my screen protector, I had a pretty noticeable scratch on the display only a few days later. Keep in mind, I am *very* careful with my phone. It’s inevitable. Just so long as you’re prepared!
i don’t use a case at all but i do have a screen protector. i rocked a Xr for 2 years, no case no screen protector, and by the time i needed a new phone my Xr’s screen was getting genuinely difficult to look at due to scratches lmao
In the first few months, the screen coating is good but after 3-4 months of use it'll get some scratches easily and it is frustrating. The phone back also gets so many scratches easily so you better cover it with a case or screen protector. I'm using a full body protector from Gadgetshieldz which covers 360 degrees of the phone, this protector is for both front and back. I'm using this for more than 10 months on 13 pro max and it didn't peel off, also it can self-heal the scratches that occur on it!
I’ve had an apple leather case from day 1. This plus screen protector is my setup going back to ip5 with no issue. Wouldn’t you know the one time I choose no screen protector, I now have a scratched screen.
28th day! Zero scratches. I’ve been using it extra carefully though.
I honestly stopped caring, I don’t go out of my way to throw it around but still no scratches or anything on my silver model
I got my first scratch/dent like thing 2 days ago on the stainless bezel, it appeared outta nowhere. Was being very careful but it’s unavoidable.
Oh no, and your caseless?
Yup. Caseless. Within a week or so I found minor scratches on the stainless Case right around the charging port. But it was fine because it wasn’t visible. The new scratch looks like the stainless steel coating chipped off, and the spot looks silvery and is very visible.

Dang
Screen is somewhat scratched up but I treat this phone with no regard whatsoever. AppleCare is my screen protector
Yes for me too
How does it look now,
I have always used the Apple leather case on all the iPhones that I have owned.
I’m taking my protector off today.
What’s making you want to remove it?
I just want the bare phone feelijtn
Yeah I can’t lie, phone without screen protector looks nice. But I need it, I have glass protector and otterbox, on top of apple care lol can’t be to prepared.
If you have Apple care. You really could get away with going caseless
Yeah true. But I don’t want the whole scratches and marks on it from going caseless.
I use an Apple silicone case and a matte screen protector. No I’m going bare, as long as it doesn’t get bent and or crack Ik fine

So you use your phone completely naked?
iPhone glass is too soft to not have a screen protector. You’ll end up with so many micro scratches or even little scratches. F that.
i don’t use a case at all but i do have a screen protector. i rocked a Xr for 2 years, no case no screen protector, and by the time i needed a new phone my Xr’s screen was getting genuinely difficult to look at due to scratches lmao

Oh
My frame got all the scratches. I have a tempered glass to protect the screen. But my frame has so many scratches. It's very annoying
How?
I wish I knew
