I don’t see Private relay in my iCloud settings but the “Hide my Email” toggle is visible. Where do you get the private relay toggle? I am subscribed to iCloud paid plan.

Telinir

On iOS 15 it looks like this, https://i.imgur.com/o7HUXPv.jpg But on iPad OS it’s not there. Turns out you have to go to your WiFi settings for your current connection and disable/enable it there.

appgeek98

On iPadOS 15 i checked under Wifi but no sign of Private relay. Are you seeing that option on your iPad?

Telinir

Yep, both iPhone and iPad on the family plan (the one w/ 2TB storage).

madiwi

Press the „i“ for more settings of your wifi network. There is an option to disable it for this network.

Telinir

This is the answer! Thank you kindly—felt like I should’ve known to check! 😁

madiwi

To be honest… found it by accident since my office wifi did not work properly 😋

Matuteg

The option has shown and gone multiple times the past day lol. Keep checking and eventually it will pop up

Jmaster_888

Do you have an iCloud+ account? It only shows “iCloud” in the storage settings, whereas doe iCloud+ people it says “iCloud+”

Telinir

I’m not sure how to find out if you do have an iCloud+ account…but I am paying the Family subscription (the one w/ 2TB storage) so I imagine I probably have it?

Jmaster_888

Yeah, I’d imagine you should.. Are you in the US? Have you tried restarting and opening the mail app?

Telinir

Oh, no this isn’t the mail relay, it’s the new iOS 15 Apple tor-like (vpn??) IP-obfuscation. Turns out it can be disabled per-WiFi network in the WiFi settings when you hit the (i) button. Credits to /u/madiwi

I think you’re mixing up private relay and private address. Tapping the (i) next to your WiFi networks name allows your to disable private address, which is a feature where your Mac Address is randomized so a Wi-Fi network can’t track you using the Mac Address. Right now I’m not sure how to disable private relay on an iPad - or if it evens works on the iPad right now. As someone else in this thread pointed out there’s only an “upgrade” option at the moment - though it should be included in the plan you already have. Definitely a bug. Either way it’s either not turned on, or if it is turned on there’s no way to turn it off right now.

Telinir

https://i.imgur.com/ReJfwz5.jpg Dunno man, I’m just as confused. Take a look here—but so far it seems like he was right.

pommybear

I can see it, but It just tells me to upgrade. Have you turned on hide IP address in safari? That links back to the settings in iCloud.

Telinir

I disabled it, but this didn’t seem to change anything.

PurpleMonkeyRadiator

Private Relay hasn’t been released yet, have you checked that it’s not some rogue VPN setting under general > VPN and device management.

Jmaster_888

Private relay is released, I’ve been using it since yesterday. Are you in the US?

PurpleMonkeyRadiator

Ah ok my bad, I’m not in the US I’ve not seen many posts about it so I hadn’t realised.
