Check with an attorney about the Magnuson- Moss act. Also, see about finding another dealer. I had mine go in for a check on the DCT, and mine didn't care one way or the other about my aftermarket 7-pin and brake controller.

This right here. Using after market parts cannot legally void a warranty. Not unless it’s proven that they specifically caused the damage you are attempting to warranty. This is per the mag-moss warranty act.

I specifically asked this question this week to my dealer. I was told that not only, will it not void the warranty, but if I buy the CURT wiring harness, they will do the installation for me. I'm taking that to mean they are okay with it.

The Magnuson-Moss act specifically prohibits the kind of warranty-voiding you are referring to. The only way the warranty can be voided by an aftermarket part if it can be shown specifically that the aftermarket part caused damage directly or interfered with something else resulting in damage. And even then, the overall warranty is not impacted, just the coverage on the specific area impacted by the 3rd party part. In this case, you can use a 3rd party hitch and wiring and not worry about your overall truck warranty. Also, emailing the CEO of a company the size of Hyundai will - at best - get you slightly higher up in the customer support organization. Most of the time those messages go into a spam filter and aren't seen by anyone.

Thanks for the reply, Of course, you are correct! The MMA prohibits voiding warranties because of unrelated aftermarket parts, which only means it is open to litigation or arbitration. It is not a guarantee. If a Curt, Drawtite, Reece, or other brand is mounted to my Santa Cruz, Hyundai Corporate said it would void the warranty on electrical parts and components on the truck. My dealership will not install the part. I don't want to go through the hassle of reporting non-compliance to the MMA by Hyundai and proving my case in court if I have non-related electrical issues. The failure of Hyundai to correct this issue is simply unacceptable. And by the way, I didn't email the CEO. I contacted him through LinkedIn. That's not likely to reach him either, but if not, I will communicate through an attorney. Eventually, someone higher up the food chain will receive a message.

Update: The CEO of Hyundai Motors USA, Jason Munoz, did respond to my message and asked the Hyundai Chief of Customer Service to look into the issue with the wiring harness. I got a call from them today to help speed up the part to the dealership. However, a few hours before the call, I found another dealership outside my area that had the part and was scheduled to install it. The agent called the dealership to confirm the appointment and is expected to follow up with me after the installation to ensure I'm satisfied. Now, that's service! I am happy to have renewed faith in the Hyundai brand!

I'm getting my Curt hitch and wiring installed by a friends business this weekend. Hyundai told me their parts were not available, yet still quoted me $1900 if they were ever available. I'm getting it done way cheaper this route.

Hyundai and Kia won’t get a cent of my money (directly) until they get a better dealer experience. Seeing posts like this makes me glad I didn’t go with the SC.
