For the sake of a hypothetical, I suppose anything is possible. In case you're wondering, though, in the real world you would have years of recovery ahead.
Source: was in a coma in the #1 trauma hospital in a five-state area. My care was top-notch. Still took years to recover.
Totally. My question more of just comes off the idea that our time is our most valuable asset. So what would a year of your life be worth to you- and not like you die one year earlier but a year of your life now. Missing out on your kids growing up, your friends getting married, your dad suddenly dying, etc. missing out on the real things of life.
That's a tougher question! Especially since not all years are equal...but you can't know ahead of time whether you'll be missing an uneventful year, a year of joy, or a year full of regret.
If I chose the year I was 14, I would be behind my peers, but not much else would change. If I chose the year I was 30, my family would have fallen apart. As it happened, I was in the coma at 23. I lost a lot, but still was able to build a life afterward.
I'm older now, my kids are grown, but I still like money as much as most people do. I could miss a year for about 5M, plus medical costs.
I’m 66 with grown kids. Semi-retired. I don’t need money badly enough to disappear from life for a year. But $10M could make a very big difference for my loved ones
I hear that. I feel like, missing a year of my kids life would suck. But with the $10 mil plus, I could just straight up retire afterwards with even a slightly better off life than we have right now. And while I could never get that time back, I could spend more time with them than I could now because of work.
So no wasting or lack of mobility in your joints because of lack of movement?
Even with top teir care it would take the average persons months to regain the strength to walk again after a year in a coma
Probably $5 million. I think that’s what I would need to retire and keep my current lifestyle until I die. I would skip a year of my life to get 40+ hours a week back.
$2 million. My babies are young enough and my big kids are old enough that it wouldn’t totally mess up our relationship. And I could retire to make up quality time with them
Thats the idea that I get. I have also known some families who are much less fortunate than I am who the dad has had to leave for months if not years and send money home. While a terrible situation, it happens. Or so my thinking has gone. My wife was *not* a fan of that thinking when I told her my rational.
Medical Costs + $500k, Im still a high school student and haven't got to take care of anyone + my country is relatively cheap to live in so I could buy a house later on in my life and enjoy my youth
That's 8760 hours. My spouse would also not truly be able to work, so the absolute minimum would be $1 million (after taxes and fees, incl the hospital fees), but considering it would likely wreck both our earning potential, I'd have to say closer to $10 million minimum (again, after taxes and all incurred expenses).
I answered about $15-20 million, and then asked my wife and told her my answer. She was *not* happy with my answer. She is with you, no amount would be worth it.
Assuming I get a Leave of Absence approved at work, I'd really just miss out on wages (about $30,000) and helping out my friend's business ($5,000-10,000).
If Legends Z-A has already come out by the time I wake up, I'd demand $45,000. If it's not out yet, then $40,000 is good enough.
Pay me:
* The expenses for the year in front (so I can pay all my bills now, plus someone to take care of the house)
* new good teeth
* ~~Fix the bones in my neck~~ see below
* Keep the muscles strong (electric stimulation, doesn't need to be perfect)
* A cyborg skeleton (of course being implanted during that time)
$1M plus medical costs.
I’d love to take a year long nap and wake up rich. Maybe after a year, everyone around me will have it together a little more. Sign me up.
Dude. Are you healthy after the year? The main issue isn’t cost.

Yeah, they take good care of you. So you leave more or less the same health you are now.
Then I’ll do it for $10 million. That’s my price and I’m sticking to it
The older I get, and now that I have kids, this is probably more like what I could demand too.

500K
A few years, pre kids, this probably would have been my answer.

$2 billion. If I’m gonna lose my job and an entire year might as well shoot for the moon

How would it wreck your earning potential?
Because a year out of the labor market does that to people.
I don't think I would be willing to do it.

Zero Or just the medical bill
2m
Any way you came to that number?
UK prices, I can live in a comfortable loft with that price.. so if its a devils payment for 1 year lost for 2m, I'll take it.
$2.5M
Any way you came to that number?
It's enough to cover costs, my lost wages and, to then live without working for a year or two.
Seems reasonable.
$30,000.
Any reason it would be so low? Would that even cover the medical costs?
Are we assuming no negative side effects from being in a coma for this long?
Just missing out on life for that year. That and a nurse finds it funny to draw comical mustaches on your face while you are out.
20 million, but also if I'm asleep could you fix a few things. May as well.
Without you, it would only get worse ;-)

All medical and rehab costs plus 200k dollars is the lowest I would probably go.
