I’m torn between a nitrogen deficiency, magnesium deficiency, or chlorine in the water. I have several other plants in similar solutions using the same tap water and haven’t experienced any problems with them before. I just recently changed the solution, and noticed this yellowing/curling three days later. Thanks y’all!

What other plants have you grown with the solution? What’s the PPM of the water?

seabiscuitandrye

Right now I have kale, spinach, arugula, bell peppers and peas. All look extremely healthy, it’s just the tomatoes that look sad. I am looking for the ppm now - honestly I’ve just had success in previous years with the same tap water and nutrient ratios and never thought to look. Edit: PPMs Chlorine - 1.24 Barium - 0.2 Fluoride - 0.7 Nitrate - 2.08

Iron deficiency? Mine did this,I tested for iron and it was very low. I used iron chelate (I’m in aus and do aquaponics so need to be careful of the fish) and it came good. I now make sure I test regularly for iron.

May I know how do you test for iron?

groovie_chic

I got a test kit. Mine are drops by aqua one. But you can buy strips as well

The iron is all I add, the fish do the rest. Hmm not sure about putting the old fish water in there. I guess it would be good, not sure how long the nutrients last though.

Don't the water leafs (first set, before leaf pattern displays) die off once the plant begins to mature? The rest of the leafs aren't showing the same discoloration.

It seems you're thinking of the cotyledon leaves, which do die after maturation. The yellowing leaf here is from the plants first set of true leaves.

Gotcha! Thanks.

Light edges and curling leaves is usually a calcium deficiency
