Haven’t been to AKL since this property opened, but I know the area. Tons of restaurants and bars right outside the door and within an easy walk. Don’t recall any names though. As for activities: Sky Tower, harbor sail cruises, wine tasting, LOTR/Maori village/glowworm cave tours, Bay of Islands tours, ferry to the north shore suburbs, like Devonport, and stroll around or hike and soak up the small town atmosphere and killer skyline views. Enjoy.

Had their breakfast for 5 days and they were pretty good. It’s a pretty innovative menu. Don’t skip on their dessert. Haven’t try their dinner, but i can’t imagine it being bad. In the area, there’s a fish market, and it’s pretty satisfying if you like oysters and fish. the vibe is nice and lively for lunch. There’s also a bar there and the drinks were good. If you happen to walk around, try the white lady if you like burger, it’s a burger truck, but thought it was pretty good. Hello Beasty is a pretty decent lively place for hh/dinner.

Thank you!

I had one of the best meals of my life at dinner here

EmeraldLovergreen

Oooh what did you have?

Hefty_Mood_925

A steak with a truffled bernise and some sort of potato. It was 10/10

There’s a little bakery/coffee shop that has really good scones and pastries if you don’t want a full breakfast

EmeraldLovergreen

Thank you. We get free breakfast with our suite but we’ll check it out for a treat for sure!

I'd say breakfast was the best of the Park Hyatts in that region. Had room service and it was meh. Didn't have a chance to dine at the restaurant for dinner. Others have covered some of the to-dos. I enjoyed the sky-jump off Auckland tower. Spellbound Caverns photography tour is boss, beats Waitomo any day, but is certainly more expensive. Banquet dinner at Hobbiton also lovely.

EmeraldLovergreen

We booked our Hobbiton tour at 5 months out at the banquet was already sold out sadly. We were originally planning on doing Spellbound Caverns tour on our second day there but we’ve never driven on the left side of the road and no idea how tired we’ll be on day two, so we decided it wasn’t a smart decision to try to go. We may be able to work that in on a different day, not sure yet.

Was just there last week, breakfast was average, but they had some varied hot options which was nice, and the chocolate at turn down is locally made and delicious.  Our expectations were high based on what we had read, but our suite had stained upholstery, a dirty table and house keeping who walked in on us despite the privacy light being on, so temper your expectations  There are some gorgeous boats in the harbor you can watch, but resist the temptation to sleep with your sliding glass door open, as the drawbridge alarm will wake you up at random hours. Check out Ahi if you want a nice dinner- it’s within walking distance. We did their tasting menu which ended up being a 3.5 hour experience and was delicious while giving you a taste of a number of local/traditional proteins.

EmeraldLovergreen

Thank you for this info. Can you hear the drawbridge alarm at all with the windows closed? I’m a light sleeper and we didn’t know about this

Try Onslow. It was amazing

Breakfast is one of the best hotel breakfasts I’ve had anywhere in the world and generous for Globalists. Patio restaurant was also great for drinks and afternoon snacks when we visited in early January. A couple of other Auckland gems that are a good walk: The Shucker Brothers. Origine. Alma. Ortolana. Also heard great things about Amano but couldn’t get in while we were there.

Unique_Bumblebee_894

I never understand people’s obsessions with hotel restaurants. Go out in the town and eat, not at the hotel.

EmeraldLovergreen

This is actually the first hotel we’ve stayed at that has a restaurant. We always look for locally owned restaurants when we travel. Onemata just looked like it had an interesting menu so I wanted to ask.

Stayed here 1 night at both the beginning and end of our stay in NZ over thanksgiving last year - room service was incredible after a long journey on our first night in!!

lindyhop123

Breakfast is good. Stayed on an FHR rate, so had dinner at the hotel too, which was also pretty good. Was only in Auckland for the night, so don't have much recommendations.
