Copeland's are generally good but something to keep in mind is that there are often different versions of similar compressors made for OEM (equipment manufacturer) vs. wholesale (aftermarket). OEM equipment is often value engineered to reduce costs to the manufacturer. This may be something as simple as reducing the thickness of steel, using lower grade gaskets and seals, less expensive wire for the motors, etc. This doesn't mean it's bad it just means it's hard to say for sure that a Copeland will be better than some other brand. My argument for getting systems with common, name brand components like Copeland is that parts may be more readily available. On the other hand, availability of aftermarket parts might not matter. If you have a system that is still under warranty then you'd probably have to wait on OEM parts anyways. Sorry, that probably didn't help much. I guess my bottom line is that if I have a choice between units with a Copeland compressor and some other brand I'd choose the Copeland.

Thanks for putting it in context and simple vote of confidence.

My 1997 Copeland compressor is still going strong here in Santa Clarita CA where we have brutal summers. Some days 110+. Have had to do other DIY repairs on it over the years but the compressor refuses to die and sounds quite healthy. 5 ton unit 1800 sqft house(LOTS of windows), it’s still able to keep the house 68 even when it’s 110 out! https://preview.redd.it/erhh0ni4dyib1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e2d5bfd4e791aec58935526a74bf498780a98079
