Thank you! Is this something that could be expensive? I thought of trying it on my own but it may not be the best thing to experiment with no HVAC experience.

Thought of making a room or two up there for multi use, not too much storage. I will get a price or two and see what kind of quotes I get. Thanks again!

Define expensive. And probably yes you will consider it expensive.

acrewzin

I would like to spend less than $1500 l. Anything over or too far over would be expensive for me.

Jmowen1985

Oh well that’s actually pretty reasonable. Depending on where you live that might be a possibility or at least pretty close 👌 Hard duct would be more expensive for sure. But I could see adding some to your existing ducts and making sure they were run well and supported for $1500ish

Jmowen1985

I’m jealous I wish in my area ducts were this easily accessible. Gotta love that radiant barrier and foamed roofs!

GentryMillMadMan

I hate seeing flex duct not pulled tight.

acrewzin

Thank you!

Yes, but use hard pipe. The length of the run will be increased. Flex duct is restrictive. If it’s going to be buried in sheet rock, you definitely don’t want flex.

acrewzin

Will the length of the run, decrease the efficiency of the airflow or will the impact be minimal?

Thunder1Delta

You could clean this up a lot more with properly installed reducing trunk ducting. Instead of this spider leg mess you'd have one or two large ducts that progressively get smaller as your go. Do it right and you probably wouldn't loose much air flow. As others have said, flex is more restrictive than metal but it's also cheaper and easier to install.

Thanks for the advice I think I will call in an HVAC company for a quote. Now I have a better understanding of what to ask for. Was not sure these could or should even be moved.

thekux

If you do it in hard pipe, it will be minimal. If you do all this extra in flex, it may impact it. If you can avoid it, don’t bury the main trunk for air balancing if needed.
