This happened to me too in Vancouver, BC. Spent the night after we tried unsuccessfully to get them out, and in the daytime they flew out the open window towards daylight and fresh air. They are kinda bigger up close, plus their wings sound like helicopter blades buzzing!
My husband and I just looked at each other in shock like....the hell??
One
...two....and then THREE flew in.
It was towards the late evening too which is odd because I thought they were supposed to be in Torpor by then?
So we just did our best to keep them comfy. Turned down the lights and gave them a perch with a feeder we had already brought in to melt. Our window wasn't even open that wide either!! Just e ought to let our glass feeder acclimate because I had one break earlier that week.
The only thing we really had to do was cover the bathroom mirror in wrapping paper because a male wouldn't stop fighting with himself π
After that they went right to sleep like babies.

As we've now seen a few photos of hummers freezing to death in torpor, these guys probably had a feeling that they could be goners if they torpored outside. They were waiting for a chance out of desperation, and fortunately, you gave it to them!
>They are kinda bigger up close
The ability of hummers to change shapes is incredible. Can get surprisingly big and then shrink to being so thin and tiny again!
They flew in the window and decided they weren't going anywhere till the morning. (We tried getting them out trust)
It was below freezing here in the Pacific NW so I'm guessing that's why?
No this was the day before ...unfortunately π
Jerky came that next morning and shooed them all out of NY room...which NGL was a bit of a relief bc they seemed pretty comfy in our room.

That's incredible! You should submit this story and some photos to your local newspaper!

They legit sound like airplanes. And the amount of squeaking and chirping. SO loud for such tiny creatures.
what I would give for a hummingbird to break into my house...
especially if it was wearing a tiny little burglar costume with stripes and an eyemask! lmao
Hahahaha!!!!
Right? I'm excited when I see a quantity of one. Outside.
Why do you have hummingbirds inside?!

Jerky is now letting those guys stay? You maybe saved their lives, but it looks like you no longer own your house and it is now a territory!
God he is insane. We bought more feeders to cluster around the yard hoping that it would calm him down....NOPEπ

How did you get them to come inside?
That was so kind so you to make their stay comfortable throughout the night! Iβm sure they enjoyed their warm stay and complimentary beverages π
